Same here. And not just the lugs, also on the side of tire. Did not see this on DD but only on DH casing.

Romy 2.5 trail soft looks good. Not that big. Not any taller than an Albert, thats for sure. Excited to try this out in the rear paired with a Tacky Chan trail ultra soft in front. Tacky Chan works great in the rear also, but seemed to wear out a bit quick. I think dual Tacky Chans really is a "race" setup like Schwalbe says.

Beware the guy at the group ride who claims to be coming off the couch.

Everything I do is core and everything I don't isn't. Casing jumps, Mid pack finishes at my local races, slightly creaky frame. Super core

If it helps, I don't find that I have to run excessively high pressures (I'm 170 lbs). For PNW summer riding I'm a few PSI above what I would run on standard casing tires (i.e. EXO+) Tacky chan radial front (trail): 24 PSI Romy radial rear (trail): 28 PSI I wasn't a fan of the Albert on either end of...

This is how Schwalbe tires die. Maxxis wouldn't fully rip off as often, but would be hanging by a thread. In my PNW experience, old-version MaxxTerrra 3C wore out well before the Schwalbe side knobs left the chat. I personally define worn out as notably worse cornering. So good job, you actually ride your bike hard. People freak out about a Schwalbe side knob tearing, but happily ride Maxxis side knobs fully undercut with no support - it's interesting psychology. Let's see how the new MaxxTerra compound does. From reports I'm guessing I'll personally get same mileage from them as...

Yes, they're awesome and I swear by them. Not only do they last a very, very long time, but they also roll super fast, which was great because I often use the same bike for DH shuttles one day and XC pedals the next. Grip wasn't bad, but I did notice worse vibration damping over small chatter and braking bumps compared to a MaxxGrip or MaxxTerra, which is to be expected. For me it's a great trade-off, and when I discovered that these tires existed it was like finding a four-leaf clover.

That's interesting and makes perfect sense to me. When I ride machine built jump trails, I typically want to air up from my tire pressure for natural trails, otherwise I roll tires on berms and especially on hips where I'm turning off a lip. This effect is both slow and feels sketchy as hell, and when I pump up my tires I feel like I can pump more efficiently and put weight into the bike in more places. Radials have less casing stability, which is their selling point but also their weakness, so I can imagine them being less stable...

It's interesting, I don't find the rolling resistance to be wildly different for trail riding. While standard casing tires feel more snappy, I would posit that it's really just a "feeling" because my times are similar given similar compounds, tread patterns, etc. Where I really notice it is on jump lines - I have to work quite a bit more...

I think you and I have already had this exact same conversation, but okay let's review my points again: 1. Lab tests ≠ absolute truth. Not all tests are created equal. People in these forums have repeatedly made the claim that radial tires roll slower than bias ply tires, but the tests they've shared to back up these claims ( example from Schwalbe's lab here) were performed on steel drums in a laboratory. Steel drums have been resoundingly proven to not be a reliable proxy for even smooth asphalt, let alone rough asphalt, gravel, or real world trail conditions. If...

In this video there's a discussion on how Spesh has been trying thread patterns with different angles in order to optimise radial and lateral stiffness. About 8 min in they are discussing how rolling resistance depend on surface and how that translates when it come to these so called radial casing tires.

He was just feeling the Assegai for that race. It’s a pretty natural track that doesn’t have the top speed of many World Cup tracks so the benefits of the stability weren’t huge, so it came down to very fine points deciding which tread pattern was going to be best for the track on that day. Both tires would have been fine but there’s something to be said for almost 10 years of experience on a tire vs 1 year if the track neutralizes some of the DHX’s advantages. When I say it does everything the Assegai does that is...

Yeah, its so hard to disentangle all the variables that go into it. Trail conditions, power output, line choice, is Mercury in retrograde, etc. After going through multiple setups over the past few months I've found I can ride a fairly consistent speed on most any tire (as long as it's matched to conditions) and the rest just comes down...

I would also add, after spending most of my last rides thinking specifically about my tires feel, subtelties in conditions, rider's energy and mindset can change how a tire feels. For example, using the gen 1 Schwalbe Albert Gravity 2.5 US front/rear, mostly dry rides. Early in the season, not in the best shape, I was cautious but gaining confidence in the tires. I settled on the best pressure after 5-6 rides and just enjoyed them afterwards. Then I reached one ride where I was tired and the tires seemed skittish and less predictable. The ride after, they felt great...
