It’s weird - sram can release an ecosystem of groups with proprietary cassettes, derailleurs, chains, rings, that have stratospheric prices and persistent issues (speed, shift calibration limitations, QC issues, cassettes that need to be installed multiple times to settle, battery pins corroding etc etc), plus compromises they try and correct release to release. Maybe that’s ok, it’s up to the rider. At the same time, Shimano releases a new di2 ecosystem that uses their existing(and awesome) cassettes, chains, rings, has the industry leading shifter for ergonomics. A sealed battery compartment, but its perceived to be noisy on some bikes, but...

A few regulations at the highest levels of racing would help the sport and the consumer imo. For example, in American football, each team can't design their own football that spins faster and flies farther and has a unique circumference and electronic tracking etc etc. That would be ridiculous, and how would rec/high school/college teams deal with such changes? It would always benefit the richer teams that can afford new balls every month they come out. I know it's not a perfect analogy and I don't want to stymie innovation, but a semi-level playing field (such as 29" wheels being...

Honestly, with how much 32 has been prototyped and with the imminent release of forks, wheels, and tires for 32, I don't think it's going to be nearly as big as people thing. We should be seeing a lot more 32 at races and other events than we are, this feels like it's going to be a lot more like 27.5+ tires and wheels than anything else.

I have a lot of time for the approach Shimano take to product development. A lot of the new stuff from every brand is not necessarily better than what came before, definitely different, but with compromises as well as advantages. Shimano just take a little longer to decide if the advance is worth the trade off. The great thing is we have a lot of choice of quality products from a number of brands, so no great loss if the Shimano offering doesn't work for you.

Saint drivetrain with 12sp chain and no clutch, now a competing UDH standard. (incoming 13sp MTB drivetrain? *eyeroll *) Can Shimano come out with a single new product without a braindead decision? When the stumpy 15 dropped they did a PB podcast and they also basically said “yeah no evo, it has to special/gnarly to get the evo name” That lasted like less than a year, I think their philosophy is pretty money centric lol.

They've been flex stay for, what, 15 years? The 2017-2021 model was incredibly popular. If they're failing, nobody's been talking about it...

The media misreported; there was a final meeting yesterday where the law firm handling the bankruptcy case for RAD, the prior owner of Rocky Mountain, announced that there were no more funds to be allocated for unsecured creditors. I assume the file is now closed. Rocky Mountain Bicycles, under the recent Chaos Sports acquisition, is alive and well.

The way I remember 29ers arriving, I'm pretty sure the decision was made by the industry to commit before riders really had the chance to vote with their wallets.... They had been around for a while on the fringe, but once more mainstream brands started getting in to it, the switch happened pretty quick and you can't just spin up a new bike model in a few months so they had to have committed years before that..... So if we start seeing the big suspension brands committing to 32" products.......

It's friday and that sounds like the perfect time to start a fight about wheel sizes again! Not exactly MTB, but Cube is supposedly dropping a 32" gravel in it's 2027 lineup. Saw this image floating around, first brand to commit to 30.5" ? Would hate to be an inventory manager right now...
