sspomer Liked a product review TESTED - Giant Faith 24 Mountain Bike for Kids

11/5/2024 3:16pm
Parents of current and future mini mountain bikers are in a great place right now. The number of high-quality, youth-sized full-suspension mountain bikes is growing faster than the feet of the kids who pedal them. Earlier this year, Giant threw their hat into the ring with two Faith models equipped with either dual 24-inch wheels (tested) or a 27.5/26-inch mixed wheel configuration. Not only are the frame and wheel sizes fit for pint-sized punting, but suspension kinematics have been developed with lightweight riders in mind. They feature a new short-travel, adjustable dropper post and even wheelsets that are tuned for...

I find myself spending less on the latest and greatest and more on bike trips/lift tickets/season passes. Same as a lot of people chiming in here, I have kids getting towards the end of high school and looking at colleges. That definitely factors into my spending habits, but honestly I feel bikes have generally plateaued as far as performance is concerned. I still drool over a lot of the new bikes coming out, I just don’t lust after them like I used to. I’m pretty happy with the few bikes I have now and will probably only upgrade when they...

I used to look for the latest and greatest and pull the trigger without thought. But now that my bikes are built exactly how I want them, I don't find myself looking to buy anything new any more. The only time I spend money on my bikes is to maintain them and to replace worn out parts (tires, brake pads, cassette, chain, etc). This I feel is 2-fold; The industry has leveled off at a really good place quality wise, so even the newest, best of the best is just marginally better than what was good 3 years ago. And...

Don't think it's been posted here yet--I found Caleb Holonko's insights into the building, riding & judging processes to be among the most thoughtful and informed I've read/heard so far. https://nsmb.com/articles/talking-rampage-and-judging-with-caleb-holonk…

Hey thanks for the reply. Much appreciated. I sprayed my rims (Sun Ringle Duroc front and DT EX471 rear) with ambient-curing Cerakote back when I built my current bike in 2022 - I blasted them with silica sand as per Cerakote's instruction. Although the finish has been holding up remarkably well against Southwest granite and tuffs, half the scratches and nicks probably could have been prevented, judging by how well your products have protected my frame and crank arms. A bit too late to apply the wraps on my current rims but I do have spares, which I'll probably lace...

About all i have seen of it so far. Draft NEPA decision can be found here. https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=63649&exp=overview Based on the NEPA and planning process so far I would say early 2026 would be as fast as it could be for starting construction and maybe early 2029 for lift service.

It's already happening in the comments... But unfortunately there is no possible, logical, fathomable way to convince people the judges know what they are doing when Zink wins last year and then TVS gets 4th this year. Meanwhile Godziek probably had the best overall and Rampage-esque run, both years, and didn't win. And then a big slope run from Semenuk can win any year. So, ultimately, if they want to say that which I believe they have ultimately... Then sure a big slope run is the future of Rampage and that's how you win. Copy Semenuk or lose to Semenuk...

Will it stick well on a rim with rough surface finish? (shot peened, sand blasted, etc) Thanks in advance.

One of Gravity Logic's boss men went to Arkansas this past summer to bid on some new constructions. I'd say very plausible.

We make them because the bike companies request them. and actually when you start digging into it, we dopnt make a ton of bearings, just combos with bearings for different uses. and we usually have decent stock for our HS. feel free to reach out to us directly and we can usually sort a bearing that works (many are cross compatible). If you have more questions directly related to a HS feel free to DM me.

Is the scout dead? It isn't even on the Transition website. I would be sad, but also wouldn't blame them for killing it. I was a scout fanboy. I went with a Norco sight in 2020 because of reasons, but one of them was because they also had a dedicated 27.5 bike. I was still a hold out, but the next bike I buy will be 100% be a mullet. It still makes me sad and slightly nostalgic though. I remember when 27.5 felt like big monster truck awesome size.

I realise this is flogging a several year-long dead horse now but here goes. Scoring the riders with numbers doesn't make sense to me for this event. Rampage feels more like a showcase of things that are simply insane to do on a mountain bike. As soon as you try and assign arbitrary numbers to that it takes away from whoever scores low down the leaderboard. The reason folk are so angry about Brendan's score is the complete lack of recognition for the standout qualities of his run - exposure and technicality (terrain rather than tricks obviously). So how about...

I'll also add, there's so much dogma in the bike industry, you can't do X because it has such bad Y...etc. We're not totally impervious to this thinking, but with this project we made it a point to actually test these assertions and sort fact from fiction. An example, from the start I felt we had to do a 20mm axle because everyone says so, it was Darren that commented how much it sucks to get a new fork and then realize your wheel doesn't work with it. So we tested and found the diameter has much less influence compared...
