There were several of us in 2010 (you included) who were dirt bags trying to 'be all we can be' and get paid to ride or race our bikes making literal hundreds of dollars per year. I took the survey back in 2010 and certainly brought down the average.

Escape Collective reporting that The Pro's Closet appears to be up shit creek without a paddle: "TPC has paused acquisition of any new bikes and also stopped booking service appointments at its shop. The company reportedly went through a deep round of layoffs late last week, with remaining staff told the business could close as soon as October 2. Two former employees told Escape Collective that The Pro’s Closet is in dire financial shape and at imminent risk of going out of business." https://escapecollective.com/the-pros-closet-may-be-in-deep-trouble/ My personal opinion is that TPC tried to grow way beyond their original niche and it...

High end prices keep climbing, but the mid range has never been stronger. Shed a few bells and whistles and you can get a lot of bike for the money. Take the New Bronson for example. You can save $3100 off the price of the top end build by getting the S build. You get mechanical GX Eagle which is totally serviceable. You get a Performance shock that can be upgraded to performance elite with a $30 part. You get a performance fork that you could drop a damper upgrade in. And you get aluminum wheels with a lifetime warranty...

I think because of the two pawl system it’s always the same. The first pawl engages immediately and then that starts the engagement of the three larger ones based on your float selection. Seems pretty rad. If it works like it says on the tin, this is a much cleaner system then an ochain as that system can have a ton of slop in it if. Too bad I don’t need a new rear hub. Also, shoulda done a few chainless laps at the end of the day!

Once again BOS is intentionally choosing a pointless stanchion size for the sole purpose of fucking up the few customers who were willing to give them a shot and try something new when BOS inevitably folds the MTB side of the business.. There's several options on the market from seemingly stable, boutique suspension manufacturers, whether it's just dampers or full forks/shocks. I don't know why you'd pick the one that launches a product on a Monday and ceases to support it by Thursday, but instead of choosing something like a 35, 36 or 38mm stanchion on the forks which would...

Just go this (tl;dr they're refunding people). Still hoping they figure out a way to ship the product at some point! "Hi Folks, We should be refunding your order tomorrow or Thursday at the latest. I'm sorry for the stress this order caused. We thank you for your business and trust in us.If you don't see something by end of week, please reach out so we can troubleshoot.. There are a lot of orders to process and it typically takes a couple of business days for the money to show up in your account. It will appear in the exact...

I'm very glad they were able to produce a bike with some cable ports and it weighs an extra 3 pounds. Seriously, I hope that trend goes back the other way and all bikes have AT LEAST a stick on cable mount package sold with the frame or make some holes in the frame with some high quality plugs and ditch the tube in tube that is probably expensive to get right. I hope enough people vote with their money (and don't buy these bikes) and this trend for no cable driven drivetrains dies fast. Yea, I'm old. No, I...

It turns out Fanatik is already way ahead of the curve for all your shake weight tuning.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sesdLpRneHs I think it will need a stiffer spring for bolting to your bike though!

I can tell its starting to get colder and rainier in much of the Northern Hemisphere Wink We are over complicating this, for sure. The reality is you can ride any number of bikes down a trail and have fun. There is no such thing as "the perfect bike". Vital tends to skew a little more toward the racer, where bike choice matters (a lot) more, but even then I'd wager a good racer could likely put in about the same result on any number of good bikes with various amounts of travel (obviously within reason). Others have mentioned it...

So I watched Jason’s discussion with Dak on these and understandably he’s being a bit cagey (and possibly doesn’t actually know much about them besides that they make him faster haha). Luckily, Fox Factory’s patent application pretty much lays out exactly what the potential benefits are. If mounted on the unsprung mass (like we saw on Dak’s bike last weekend), the TMD can serve to improve the tire’s contact with the ground. This is more or less what SuspensionLabNZ’s video demo above is demonstrating – awesome work on that btw. If mounted on the sprung mass, it seems like it...

So it took me way to long to stitch these together and export it properly, but I did this test with the tyre at 18psi and 26psi, the 18psi gave the best result. Using parts on hand like some springs around 11.8 N/mm, a 250g mass and a 600g(250+350) mass. (*edit using the 2 opposing springs halves the rate so more like 6 N/mm) The wheel alone is about 1800g so total system about 2.4kg Tyre rates are roughly 35N/mm @ 18psi and 44N/mm at 26psi BUT they are slightly progressive in the first few mm plus I trimmed the...

I'm struggling to work out who is less wrong here - but yes a bike absolutely has anti squat (and anti rise) without a chain on it. The bike is being pushed by the swingarm which can pivot, so the response of the rider weight means it will likely try to tip one way or the other. The chain is just a second torque being added to the equation which can offset that moment. I think this needs its own thread
