I'd much rather fix a carbon bike with a damaged downtube than an aluminium bike with a crack. Between the two, my money would be on the carbon bike having the longer lifespan. Aluminium fatigue is a bitch.

Didn’t VPP only exist to get around the FSR patent?

Sorry bud, but if you are getting to the point of ranting on the internet about " woefully anemic, made of cheese, lock ring" then yes you might need to evaluate your wrenching skills. lol Sorry you got your feelings hurt. Your rant comes off as just a bunch of lop-sided frustration. You list a bunch of things you hate yet have zero information on what bothers you specifically. There is no such thing as a perfect design, everything in life is about tradeoffs. Mechanical design is no different, both shimano and sram have teams of ME's sitting and arguing...

Calibrated Ocular Comparator is another good one. ROFL Re: People complaining about Shimano 12sp might need to put the wrench down and step away from the bike. I clean my cassette in the ultrasonic every few weeks. I have 1500miles on my current XT and that lock ring has been loosened and tightened a few 100 times, it's in just as good of shape as it was when new. 1-piece cassettes are nice, but they also are either light and expensive or cheap and stupid heavy... If you struggle to line up some rings and spacers you might not want...

SRAM is more “innovative” by bringing new shiny things to market much faster than Shimano. But I’ve found over the years SRAM has brought some things to market a little too st at the expense of quality and warranty issues. Shimano on the other hand is slower to adapt and respond, but historically their execution is much better. Their new products typically (not always)have less issues associated with them.

Try riding a shimano derailleur with the clutch switched off and you'll feel the difference in performance shifting wise straight away.

I think one of the largest "We're not in Kansas anymore" moments I had when I began working for a component manufacturer after years in bikes shops was when I had the insignificance of aftermarket sales explained to me. Don't get me wrong, every brand worth their salt is going to support aftermarket product bc why leave money on the table, but OE sales are king in the bike industry and ultimately OE sales drives every design decision. SRAM gets to push the convenience of full SRAM spec by limiting cross compatibility. For brands like Canyon, Specialized, etc., who are...

I wouldn't quite compare them to Apple, but ultimately they want to be a one stop shop for their OEM customers.

The hardtail thing at a World Cup was cool when Phil Atwell did it a few years ago as an exhibit to showcase a track that at the time riders said was too bike parkish and not inline with what a World Cup track should be.

“The Formula 1 of bicycles!!!” If this crap is true about Hardtail Dude being involved in Wyn’s crash, then being off-pace during Asa’s run, how in TF is the UCI allowing this? Could Asa, Amaury, or Loic put a hardtail inside the top 30? If the answer is no, then there should be a minimum equipment spec to be able to enter. Most every sport that involves wheels won’t let you enter elite level races on garbage. If you can come up with the money to go the path of entering a WC Downhill you can afford a DH bike...
