12/18/2023 4:56am The way to think about "how much travel you need" is how much you need to pump on your rides. People talk a lot about climbing, but in most scenarios more or less suspension travel doesn't make a huge difference in climbing performance (ceteris paribus). What is noticeable is pumping up and down on your bike to accelerate like you would on a pumptrack. People on rough and steep trails tend to let the bike do more of the work, whereas riders on lower speed, flatter, or rolling terrain tend to use a lot more body english on the bike...

11/20/2023 6:03am This is quite an interesting topic, I've had a couple of high pivot bikes and probably wouldn't buy another... Kinda. I had a norco aurum, which was great I thought. It was always terrible in corners and front end grip was kinda vague. I thought it was a sizing thing perhaps. I then got a norco range and thought this is way better. Could still feel the rearward axle path, but it turned better etc etc. Which led me down a real rabbit hole, I put a wrp link in it which gave fully rearward axle path and dual crown...

11/20/2023 6:03am I hope the bias in my conclusion was glaring, because I tried to spell it out as clearly as possible. I had an expectation for the Deviate and, to my surprise, that expectation wasn't met when I rode it. I'd love to ride it with an entry level shock to see how the axle path feels with less damping and more suspension bob.

11/13/2023 6:49pm Some comments: The antisquat vs pedal kickback conversation is always interesting because I think some things get muddled when people assume that one depends on the other. The two are completely independent calculations that depend on some of the same input variables. In practice this means when you tune one the other is inevitably changed. However there are thought experiments where this is not the case (jackshaft or hub motor bike). Antisquat: This is not a unique to bicycles thing. Anti geometry is a vehicle dynamics term. I like the definition from Millikens Race Car Vehicle Dynamics (not my favourite...

11/6/2023 7:22am Met Robin Williams in my local bike shop while building up my first official DH bike, a yellow/red Intense Uzzi DH. He was wowed & asked about it. Everyone else was in awe of him but I'm off in the head too & we hit it off & just babbled. He told me the rumours were true that he was really into bikes, that he'd been in disguise in the back of the USPS chase car feeding Lance & crew in feed zones. Hadn't missed a TdF in over 10+ years & was there to pick up a road bike...

10/27/2023 6:55pm haha I know how it feels to have someone fast as f*(k behind you for a race..... csh time My last DH race I was in over 35's at a clubby in Ourimbah, I was hungover as all shit and we went down just before Elites. There is no seeding in the club rounds so I just chilled up the top trying to get it together. I go up to the tower and wedge my old ass on the bike not really wanting to ride but what do you do. Behind me, Jack Moir is walking up the tower, so...

10/22/2023 9:10am Funny. I almost started a very similar thread. Just so we are clear, I tried to distill Bruni's rant into one hypothesis. Please clean this up if I'm wrong... Hypothesis: If you cut the field to a more elite group you will be able to put on a better race with better TV qualities which will amount to higher dollar sponsors for those at the top. Listening to Bruni walk us through his logic I have to say, I do not agree. I've heard similar things for more than 2 decades, and it doesn't seem to me that this is...

10/19/2023 9:47am With respect to your last line, in the ODub video they are being very humble and nice about other riders etc but they do specifically mention "riders #2 and #3 did a train down the mountain for fun, most riders lines are too scary to do that". If TVS can hit Storch's chute blind, should it be scored that high? Just adding fuel to the fire, but I'm kinda over it, the riding was great, coverage was great, Brendog doesn't seem that pissed, Bienve got more awards than he could hold up at once. Let's just move on...

10/19/2023 9:42am Ah basically says Bienvenido didn't do well cos Rampage isn't about tricks, its about risk and exposure. And Brendog didn't do well cos its isn't about risk and exposure, he needs to do tricks.
