4/3/2024 6:37am I'm not sure numbers really matter, it's how it feels that matters but with that said I've made changes in the past which felt uncomfortable at first then stuck with them a bit longer to get used to it then seems really beneficial, especially moving from a medium to a large frame, I remember I didn't like it at 1st...

4/3/2024 5:02am My maths wasn't great, a 45 degree head angle would be a 1:1 up Vs back Therefore on a 67.5 ° head angle for every 2mm of spacer would be 1mm reach reduction, a slacker head angle would obviously be a bit more back, a bit of trig or just applying a ratio could work it out based on a...

4/2/2024 7:59am That's interesting, I ride with the guys at Geometron, that's where my theory came from, usually when I see people on Geometrons they have a load of spacers stacked under the stem which got me thinking. But they also gave me the idea of measuring from bb to handle bars. TBF to them they were the originators of extending the...

4/2/2024 7:09am You lost me at 70mm stem It's all interesting though and your right it's all about getting the comfortable position that inspires confidence. I just built up a new rig, I've gone from 27.5 to 29er, both got 35mm stems. I know I had the reach dialled on my last bike because I did quite a few experiments with different...

4/2/2024 2:21am If you were to look side on at a riders position reducing reach on a top tube or raising the front up with stem spacers would both have the similar affect. Ok higher front end also gives a bit of otb security. So sit on a seat (currently on toilet lol) and you can visualise it You have 2 main...

4/2/2024 2:03am Your kind of missing my point, shortening the reach, adding stem spacers or higher bars all have similar affect on the riders body position and have same affect. It's about finding a comfortable body position to enable correct weight distribution/centre of gravity. Your headtubes notes. I suspect headtubes got shorter when 29" wheels came along to prevent too much of...

4/2/2024 12:54am No.. If you put spacers under the stem it physically reduces the reach, for every 3mm of stem height spacer you add, you reduce the reach by approximately 1mm. Also by increasing bar height, it has the same affect on body position as reducing the reach, the natural dynamic centre of gravity a rider distributes the weight will remain constant...

4/1/2024 10:10am Finale is good fun for a few days, food, beach scenery etc is mint. Other places not too far Petra ligure, Pila (Aosta valley offpiste). Millini do triora, lovely old town. Couple other good riding spots close to their with beaches not too far too.

4/1/2024 10:06am I think the telly tale sign that the reach is too long is when you see a load of headset spacers under the stem

4/1/2024 9:21am I've been running the nylon nuke proof pedals last couple years on 2 different bikes. About half the price of aluminium ones, grip is on par, generally getting 2 years out of a set before the bearings implode and fall out.
RhysO Added a reply to 170mm 36 vs 38 fork: which would you prefer?
4/1/2024 9:15am You guys need to stop worrying about weight ofvforks, it's nonsense, especially if you are over 200 lbs. Say your 235 lbs with the bike, you really think half a pound or half a pound of unsprung weight makes any difference or you would notice it is laughable l. That's less than a 0.5% increase in weight. I have some...

3/30/2024 1:32am Yeah totally if I were racing fast loose tracks or if that was my usual riding I would want longer chainstays. They are stability at the cost of nimbleness and vice versa. But short stay bikes I find way more fun to ride and flick around. Most my riding is steep tight & twisty and when I've ridden long cs...

3/28/2024 3:22pm I've had a lot of debates on this. I've always preferred bikes with shorter rear ends as I think they are more rewarding to ride and flick into corners. My bike friend who runs an unnamed bike company completely disagrees and thinks longer back ends are better as they give a more balanced weight distribution. I think the weight distribution...

3/17/2024 2:00pm Yup just fitted a SRAM gx 12spd hours ago, I'm building up a new bike, waiting for a few more bits to arrive and hopefully test it next weekend. Pretty sure i will end up reverting back to 11spd again tho. I don't have any fire roads I can't get up on 10/11 SPD or even 9spd back in the...
