Dante Silva seems like one of the most relentlessly upbeat guys in downhill. I truly get a kick out of him every time he's interviewed. I was so happy for him when he qualified in Q1 at Lake Placid and went 16th in the finals. He's had a great 2025.

I figure the best feature for summer activities for resorts is employee retention for winter time. That and I imagine the majority have lots of costs extrapolated in a monthly schedule so bringing in any profits in the off season helps with those. Best way to become a millionaire in the bike industry is to start with two is probably even more true for operating a bike park. Agree with Jotegr. No actual knowledge but.... A knowledgeable individual told me that RCR (Resorts of the Canadian Rockies) is best viewed through the lens of a real estate company. I also think summer operations can keep a few key staff employed year round but even then it's a fraction of winter. Presumably bikers also help keep restaurants etc open as well.

My understanding is that other than Whistler, no traditional North American ski hill venue was really making money on a bike park directly. At plenty of resorts that aren't quite at Whistler level the real money is in real estate development (I'm not even convinced a bunch of these are profitable as ski resorts), and a bike park can lean into the whole "four season" marketing pitch to sell more condos and timeshares. I hope that bespoke options like Coast Gravity Park and other bike-only products like Highland are the exception and they make enough to operate as-is.

I feel like I've seen/heard this a few times from a few different people/places, but a small ski hill near me would make more money from ski lift passes over the holidays (maybe even only a few days worth) than they did for the whole summer of mountain biking. There was a place that was rumoured to make essentially zero profit from lift accessed DH (because ticket prices and rider numbers were low) but they kept it going because of the broader tourism/economic impact (e.g. you make no money on the lift pass, but lots on the food and beers)...

I can't get behind the MRP. Those things folded. Referring to the E13 full polycarbonate bash guard. That combined with the shark fin make way more sense. Racers only got rid of them for weight savings right? We're adding 5lbs of lead weight now but still running exposed alloy chainrings instead of this?

Pure speculation, but what about Oisin to Norco? How long were the contracts for the reformed NRD? This was the second season for a lot of them, and if memory serves, Gracey was their only success story this year. They could really use a consistent top 10 male rider.

I caught the podcast today and thought it was one of the best I've listened to in a while, very informative and I appreciated the discussion. I'm not in the bike industry but I am a bike geek who works with municipal governments on capital projects and I spend a lot of time analyzing how organizations make decisions and the parallels regardless of industry are undeniable. I am amazed that anything gets built and I'm always pretty sure shit is going to start to fail at any minute. 😅

Yeah that was my next thought. I guess all ideas start somewhere but I’m my opinion showing that off in public is a bad look. It would not be too difficult to use some pan head screws at the very least. Also, make it one piece and fold it over with a nice radius so it can’t slice your gooch wide open. Idk I’m just a dumb electrician but I feel like I could make a much nicer one with a beer box template some tin snips and the random hardware in my garage.

I’ve got to say this thing on Reese’s Gamux looks extremely terrible and a bit dangerous. The rest of the paddock is 3D printing these kinds of fairings, rotor guards etc. and Aon is out there looking like a high school project.
