I like a few of these idea, i think it was the OTB podcast out of NZ where one of the guys talked about scraping juniors and making it an under 23 class, with similar requirements to what you just said, if you win 2 overalls then you must move up, and you can elect to race elites when ever you want, but once you leave you can never come back. I think this type of strategy would allow more junior riders to develop into legit racers and lengthen the careers of many - it also means that you wouldn’t...

I'm just going to chime in on the free vs subscription broadcast debate. I'm totally on the side of free for a sport the size of MTB. It doesn't have the numbers to support a subscription broadcast, a free broadcast with advertisements would probably come closer to bridging that gap financially then a lot would expect. The increased eyeballs on...

Id have no idea what sag im running. other than a starting point, thats all its good for - in the rear i'd guess closer to 20% than 30%(based on shock stroke) my bikes ride sick since I stopped caring about "but im about 30/20% sag"

I’m up to be proven wrong, but I really don’t think anyone who doesn’t have at least minimal connection to bicycles is stumbling upon World Cup DH randomly and get hooked. If WB really believes that, I think it’s a fools errand. The F1 analogy gets thrown around a lot but I believe it’s completely different. Most adults who have access to a TV and the internet also have experience with a car. They’ve driven one or ridden in one. It’s a much smaller step to imagine yourself in a race car than as a mountain bike racer for most...

Val Di Sole track preview! Would be sick if UCI taped the course as wide as it is right now in some of the tech sections.

No kidding. The boy dented the hell out of a FRONT wheel at the race first day of practice. We bent it back out and ran it for qualies then had to go with the spare on race day.

Other than riding on private property, what use case is there for a Surron or light electric motorcycle? They seem like lame small motos to me, that are only actually useful for poaching MTB trails and illegally riding on the road as mopeds, because they are quiet. No, they are not. They can be the solution to get people out of cars and commuting in an environmental friendly way. I own a plated Sur Ron with all terrain tires that I use as a commuter on small side roads and dirt roads (open to motor traffic) when I cannot use...

Three wheelers were made illegal to sell, not to own, and then the market eventually took care of it. Other than riding on private property, what use case is there for a Surron or light electric motorcycle? They seem like lame small motos to me, that are only actually useful for poaching MTB trails and illegally riding on the road as mopeds, because they are quiet. They're just a law breaking machine that you can't truly legally ride anywhere. From my uninformed, but annoyed analog pedal-bike riding only perspective, those manufacturers and retailers don't invest in building trails, advocacy for...

The problem is their ‘path’ to increased exposure seems pretty poorly planned and executed. If you really wanted more eyes on it, you would put it somewhere free (or cheap) and easy for longtime fans and then you could also put it in the sports package for the general public who have MAX to stumble upon. Right now you have a product that is only marginally better than the previous RedBull version. However the RedBull version was free and super easy to access. Now you are requiring people to pay a substantial amount while also making access harder. That’s a...

As a teen riding street I broke a chain on one of our night rides. As one would expect, none of us had tools. Found a brick, 2x4, and a chunk of concrete and bashed it back together as carefully as possible. Held for a month+

Hey, I’m Ryan Burney. I’ve been engineering bikes for 8 years, and this is a breakdown of what I’ve learned starting my own small business, Rim Saver. In this post, I’m sharing everything I’ve learned while launching a product business in the bike world. What worked, what didn’t, and what I’d do differently. If it helps even one person take the leap or avoid a mistake, it’ll be worth it. Background I made the first version of Rim Saver in college. The idea started out as a beadlock concept, then evolved into a beadlock with rim protection, then just rim...

A lot of people have already hit on it, but it boils down to users on higher powered ebikes not willing to play by any rules or do any work to ensure their own access because poaching is so much easier at the moment. Problem being I really don't see surron owners or others trying to build their own trails...

You are 110% correct. The lil company that could, for sure, but needed deeper pockets to really reach their limits. I'm just stoked they didn't succumb to the PE buyout that has plagued many an industry the last 20 odd years. Having someone with the smarts, passion, and especially capital to help both brands grow sounds like a game winner to me. (And not all us Yanks share in your sense of all of our overt 'patriotism'. A lof of us folx think that the more flags we see someone displaying the less likely they are to understand the depth...

We had Saurons descend on our local social trail spot over the last 2 years. They are kids, their parents are ok with their kids abusing areas as long as it's not their own ( the area is surrounded by residential neighborhoods). The kids on the Saurons tore up the space in moto ways, the neighbors complained to the police, and nothing happened. Then recently the land owner brought tractors out and destroyed all two wheel related fun bits. I feel bad for the BMX and MTB teens who built some fantastically sculpted jump areas. ALL of the kids/teens in...

Proper enforcement will be impossible, so the authorities are eventually going to make it simple - no wheeled vehicles on mixed use trails at all anywhere near urban areas or in popular outdoor locations, regardless how powered. Slippery slope? We'll see.

Hm, not sure. My take is the problem will still be surrons and class 3s or whatever, not these things. Reason being these look like they suck to ride and have terrible balance and ride feel. Not sure how heavy it is, but if you enter 60+ pound weights, small motorcycle type weights, on to a bike frame with it dispersed all random, it's not going to be anywhere near as good as a surron or full power ebike in performance and feel. Or to put it another way, I saw bikes like this quite often 5-10 years ago, and...

No doubt fun af but between the cyc motor and 6k watts running through that chain and frame everything will sort itself out. Theres a place for them, as long as it doesnt explode, but its not on mtb trails. Thats too fast and probably a lawsuit waiting to happen. I would like to see designated mini moto trails within city limits in the future though. Commence growing pains

PLEASE don't let this turn into a thread of pure nonsense. we all know there are plenty of kooks on both sides of the argument. i'm really curious to see how the future of trail access shakes out with so many electric two-wheeler products that are getting more affordable and can "blend in" on the trail. i was sent a surronster video with the message "would you ever?" i've never watched a surronster vid, but am amazed by his view counts. after watching it for a bit, besides being really bummed out at the trolling nature of what he's doing...
