6/18/2025 3:17pm All good and fair points, I agree the average bike price probably isn't going down and ebikes keep selling more and more. My hope was that trends would somehow change and maybe economics could be a sneaky part of it. Just an "old" man over here wishing people saw the awesomeness in bicycles without motors.

6/18/2025 3:27am Changing the topic slightly, but who thinks this situation changes massively if regular bike prices come down? I could see someone with no idea what they're looking at comparing a decent bike to whatever flavor of the month ebike company that is also in the price range and the ebike wins out because in their mind it has a motor...

6/17/2025 6:24pm Why does your view on what should be allowed on the trails conveniently aligns with what you have decided for yourself to use? A hiker would argue that no bikes should be on the trails because they all destroy them. In reality, it depends on the area, the soil type and type of trail how much it is affected by the different types of usage. That is harder to control, but common sense by the users should prevail. I know some legal-to-bike-on trails that I would not ride with a normal bike in the winter because of the damage that...

6/17/2025 4:00pm Going way back on this one, I was about 11 or 12 riding bikes with a neighbor when my chain breaks. At this age it blew both of our minds, what do you mean a chain breaks. So we grab the chain, put it in the vice in my parents garage and used punches and a hammer to push the...

6/17/2025 3:48pm Man, the safety glasses thing hits too close to home. I was once (attempting) to rebuild a rev a rockshox reverb in my garage. I was at the part where you set the IFP depth with the stupid tools, and then equalize everything and add air. I was struggling with it and couldn't get the stupid thing to take. I had just burped up mineral oil all over my work bench trying to air it up and was now setting everything up for a second go at the final re-assembly. At any rate, my wife comes out into the garage...

6/16/2025 3:08pm I like a few of these idea, i think it was the OTB podcast out of NZ where one of the guys talked about scraping juniors and making it an under 23 class, with similar requirements to what you just said, if you win 2 overalls then you must move up, and you can elect to race elites when ever you want, but once you leave you can never come back. I think this type of strategy would allow more junior riders to develop into legit racers and lengthen the careers of many - it also means that you wouldn’t...

6/16/2025 2:43pm I'm just going to chime in on the free vs subscription broadcast debate. I'm totally on the side of free for a sport the size of MTB. It doesn't have the numbers to support a subscription broadcast, a free broadcast with advertisements would probably come closer to bridging that gap financially then a lot would expect. The increased eyeballs on...

6/16/2025 11:51am Id have no idea what sag im running. other than a starting point, thats all its good for - in the rear i'd guess closer to 20% than 30%(based on shock stroke) my bikes ride sick since I stopped caring about "but im about 30/20% sag"

6/14/2025 6:50pm I’m up to be proven wrong, but I really don’t think anyone who doesn’t have at least minimal connection to bicycles is stumbling upon World Cup DH randomly and get hooked. If WB really believes that, I think it’s a fools errand. The F1 analogy gets thrown around a lot but I believe it’s completely different. Most adults who have access to a TV and the internet also have experience with a car. They’ve driven one or ridden in one. It’s a much smaller step to imagine yourself in a race car than as a mountain bike racer for most...

6/14/2025 6:36pm Val Di Sole track preview! Would be sick if UCI taped the course as wide as it is right now in some of the tech sections.

6/14/2025 6:36pm No kidding. The boy dented the hell out of a FRONT wheel at the race first day of practice. We bent it back out and ran it for qualies then had to go with the spare on race day.

6/14/2025 11:06am Other than riding on private property, what use case is there for a Surron or light electric motorcycle? They seem like lame small motos to me, that are only actually useful for poaching MTB trails and illegally riding on the road as mopeds, because they are quiet. No, they are not. They can be the solution to get people out of cars and commuting in an environmental friendly way. I own a plated Sur Ron with all terrain tires that I use as a commuter on small side roads and dirt roads (open to motor traffic) when I cannot use...

6/14/2025 11:04am Three wheelers were made illegal to sell, not to own, and then the market eventually took care of it. Other than riding on private property, what use case is there for a Surron or light electric motorcycle? They seem like lame small motos to me, that are only actually useful for poaching MTB trails and illegally riding on the road as mopeds, because they are quiet. They're just a law breaking machine that you can't truly legally ride anywhere. From my uninformed, but annoyed analog pedal-bike riding only perspective, those manufacturers and retailers don't invest in building trails, advocacy for...

6/14/2025 11:01am The problem is their ‘path’ to increased exposure seems pretty poorly planned and executed. If you really wanted more eyes on it, you would put it somewhere free (or cheap) and easy for longtime fans and then you could also put it in the sports package for the general public who have MAX to stumble upon. Right now you have a product that is only marginally better than the previous RedBull version. However the RedBull version was free and super easy to access. Now you are requiring people to pay a substantial amount while also making access harder. That’s a...

6/14/2025 2:20am As a teen riding street I broke a chain on one of our night rides. As one would expect, none of us had tools. Found a brick, 2x4, and a chunk of concrete and bashed it back together as carefully as possible. Held for a month+

6/14/2025 1:21am Hey, I’m Ryan Burney. I’ve been engineering bikes for 8 years, and this is a breakdown of what I’ve learned starting my own small business, Rim Saver. In this post, I’m sharing everything I’ve learned while launching a product business in the bike world. What worked, what didn’t, and what I’d do differently. If it helps even one person take the leap or avoid a mistake, it’ll be worth it. Background I made the first version of Rim Saver in college. The idea started out as a beadlock concept, then evolved into a beadlock with rim protection, then just rim...

6/13/2025 5:40pm A lot of people have already hit on it, but it boils down to users on higher powered ebikes not willing to play by any rules or do any work to ensure their own access because poaching is so much easier at the moment. Problem being I really don't see surron owners or others trying to build their own trails...
