That's great, I totally understand what you're talking about when you mention older riders and trail advocacy. Unfortunately the group around me is totally xc trail oriented to the point they made agreements (without asking riders or the dnr requesting it) to keep all jumps and features out of their network save one small skills area. There's a freeride zone...

I've been working on getting a mini-enduro network built in Meredith, NH, USA. I first went to a conservation commission meeting to gauge interest, and also contacted 2 local NEMBA chapters to see if they would support it. I had briefly considered just building the trails illegally, but it's pretty close to houses and town, so it was a bit too risky, and likely to be shut down, ruining any chances or good will later on. The commission was all retirees, so they were a bit skeptical, but thankfully the chair of the commission is himself a mountain biker, so...

And the financial reward for hyper-specialization of fancy doctors vs. minimal payout for GP's and pediatricians. If we can make $600k a year on heart or vascular surgery that's great, but heaven forbid we provide good consistent health care to that same patient for the first 55 years of their life. How is a GP ever supposed to pay off $400k in high interest student debt when they make $93k a year? Not saying it's impossible to pay that off, but if you're smart enough to be a GP you're damn sure smart enough to make 3x that money with...

I love trails, building them and riding them. I searched for a generic trail thread on here and didn't really find one, if I'm wrong and one exists feel free to delete this. I envision this as a thread to discuss general trail maintenance, routing discussions, land manager relationships, rogue trails, and all other things trail building. Post what you're...

Even if we bring a large amount of manufacturing back to the States, I don't think that Americans are willing to change their spending habits. I assume most things that would transition from foreign to US made would see an increase in price, and at the end of the day I doubt your average American is will to pay more for the same product simply because it US made (assuming its the same quality). So either the corporations producing these products would either need to accept smaller margins (I assume they wont), the product will be of lesser quality, and/or...

While every 13 year old boy has a butt drawing bench, butting draw benches are rare. Shame. these seem to be the fundamental flaws in the Make American Manufacturing Great Again echo chamber. The equipment isn’t here to do it. This is true not only with metal, but textiles too. 15 ish years ago I recall learning from a moderate sized fancy technical clothing company how they would love to do production stateside, but the equipment is all in Taiwan and China. Domestic manufacturing wasn’t even an option for them. Nor were the raw materials (including plants and animals) needed...

Dedacai will draw you 6061 over in Italy if you order about 3000 pounds worth. They don’t have any stock profiles that would work well for your bikes though, so you’d be on the hook for mandrels for each tube. As i’m sure you know, a butting mandrel is spun up on a lathe to precise tolerances, and it’s usually paired with a forming die, so tooling for new mandrel butted cold formed tubes is also pretty dang expensive… When Sapa was still around, and the facility in CT was still around, you basically had every mandrel and die the...

I like Redbull as a broadcaster more than wbd but redbull had some issues for sure during their tenure. Biggest difference being the price was right though so it didn't matter as much and they usually owned up and apologized when something happened rather than hide it.

An EXTREMELY simplified explanation of why video gets blurred: The more detail in an image, the more data is required to describe that image. There's a limit to how much data cameras can capture in real time, how much they can send in "real time," how much broadcasters can send in "real time," how much internet service providers can receive and send in "real time," and how much your TV provider can send in "real time." The downstream folks tell the upstream folks how much they can handle. The on-site broadcast is assembled in real-time and sent to the folks...

All good and fair points, I agree the average bike price probably isn't going down and ebikes keep selling more and more. My hope was that trends would somehow change and maybe economics could be a sneaky part of it. Just an "old" man over here wishing people saw the awesomeness in bicycles without motors.

Changing the topic slightly, but who thinks this situation changes massively if regular bike prices come down? I could see someone with no idea what they're looking at comparing a decent bike to whatever flavor of the month ebike company that is also in the price range and the ebike wins out because in their mind it has a motor...
