7/30/2026 10:28am The patent was never actually granted. It was issued a non-final rejection based on being an obvious combination of prior art. If you don't respond to that within a certain window the patent office considers it abandoned. So anyone that wants can have at it.

7/30/2026 7:06am I get missing the Red Bull free coverage, and I agree the commentary and broadcast quality still have room for improvement compared to then WB started. But if you're in New Zealand, it's actually one of the cheapest places in the world to watch the World Cup. MTBWS TV is only US$5.99 a month, which is about NZ$10, because New Zealand doesn't have a Warner Bros / Discovery broadcast partner and they use their own Staylive platform. At the end of the day, that's about the price of one beer at a pub each month and less than the price...

7/30/2026 7:00am The pivot uses a 17/22 vs the RMU’s 17/20. that should work out to about a 32 tooth on the Nighttrain

7/30/2026 7:00am Yeah I went and checked and see it's the same. This is terrible. Not only are you stuck with a bunch of non-standard parts you can only get from the company that sold you the bike, you're also stuck with what is essentially a 35T chainring. Fine on a DH bike I guess, but on an enduro bike that's supposed to get pedalled? Who is going to live with that?? True that Dave Weagle was the first to (successfully at the end of the day) implement this idea, but him patenting it essentially just cockblocked everyone else at trying to...

7/30/2026 7:00am To be fair there’s no need for a narrow wide between the chainring and jackshaft pulley since is perfectly in line and the chainline will never change

7/30/2026 6:59am I can compare the rekon, magnotal, and trinotal, but not the dubnotal as it's a bit too light for me Just as a heads up, while the trinotal looks reminiscent of the forekaster, it has much shorter knobs. In terms of overall grip/rolling resistance, its forekaster > magnotal > rekon > trinotal. I really like the center tread on the magnotal, but the sideknobs don't quite reach forekaster levels of grip

7/30/2026 6:58am On DHF talk, I'd happily never ride that tire ever again - Had some of the scariest moments on that tire, I'd happily have a Forekaster on the front over it.

7/30/2026 6:58am The nighttain has a 20T for the larger of the jackshaft rings, not sure about the smaller, and a 27T chainring. A chain link rotates 11.25 degrees (22.5 total) going onto and off a 16T idler and 9 degrees going onto a 20T ring. Add in the fact that there are two rings on the jackshaft and that's at least 18 degrees total. A little more because one of the rings is smaller by the looks of it. Then the smaller chainring is a little less efficient than a 32T. Maybe if you compare it to a bike that uses...

7/30/2026 6:57am I just write down the part number for the exact tires I already own. I do this with every tire brand but Maxxis is notoriously confusing. Really glad that Schwalbe went to just “trail” and “gravity” casings at least. I’d praise Conti for doing “trail/endurance”, “enduro”, and “downhill” casings but when searching for “enduro” casing it’s really easy to accidentally buy an “endurance” casing.

7/30/2026 6:57am That is so true. I have Maxxis on most of my bikes, even my wife's bike, and every time I need to order new tires, I have to refresh myself with all of their nomenclature and different models.

7/30/2026 6:57am Maxxis are the undisputed kings of SKU-creep and the DHF has been racking up SKUs for decades. We'll all be on 36" wheels by the time they finally shift the last one. They still have the HR2 and the old Dissector listed on the international site.
