6/10/2026 5:07am I attended Lake Placid last year (my first ever world cup event) and wondered how they were making any money. Tickets were cheap and there didn’t seem to be a lot of folks in attendance at the XC races. I guess not enough to cover their costs.

6/9/2026 1:55pm Quote from article. "After spending more than $860,000 to put on three days of mountain bike races in the fall of 2025, the authority brought in less than $300,000 in revenue from ticket sales and parking from the downhill and cross-country cycling competitions, records show. The baseline costs for hosting the UCI event required ORDA to make payments of $420,000 to $500,000 a year for the rights to put on the races."

6/9/2026 5:37am Yeah on a more supportive bike it's not happening. The amount of time I spend around 70% on the SJ15 in all it's linearity with the Genie is wild though.

6/9/2026 5:37am It's hard for me to imagine a scenario where I'm hitting the bottom out bumper on a long sweeping berm and not experiencing high shaft speeds. For me, I shouldn't be going past maybe 70% of travel on a long sweeping berm, even if I'm coming real hot. If I'm using more travel than that, it means that I'm either running into the turn violently or hitting braking bumps, holes, roots, or rocks in the berm, all of which would create high shaft speeds and activate HBO. Just spitballing here, but to me HBO seems like a huge advantage everywhere...

6/9/2026 5:36am Fresh B Practice chit-chat for ya! We recorded this morning and chatted a bunch about Dak's ongoing search for comfort this season, his outlook heading into this weekend's race, plus a bunch of bench racing about tracks, poles vs. tape, head-to-head DH racing, and a few other topics that I can't remember 🤓 YouTube is still uploading, but I'll drop it here as it should populate once it's done -

6/9/2026 5:34am Yeah I've thought for a while that a hydraulic damper could be ideal - you can use a roller bearing with a heavy damping grease (these have WAY more viscosity than any thick grease you normally use) or a small rotary damper to give more speed sensitivity to the cage. Would also have a lot less friction acting on the suspension, ie only damping the large bounces of the cage, and not restricting the small, fast movements of the suspension. The normal friction clutches don't do anything to stop small vibration of the chain, and can amplify bigger impacts because...

6/9/2026 5:33am Sad to hear that Jeff! It's even sadder to think Strava could introduce private segments and bike park mode on a slow Tuesday morning without breaking a sweat but don't and leave it up to overworked people with their hands in multiple pickle jars to do so.

6/8/2026 10:30am I can speak from recent experience it’s a few times over $600 even with good insurance. Also didn’t help they needed to CT scan most of my upper body... Even as a recreational rider I wear the Fox Baseframe Pro every time I ride, even light trail riding. I’ll welcome any advancements for pros and weekend warriors. After coming close to breaking my back on this last spill I’ll take the extra bone insurance and defer my groupset upgrade. And after watching Luca go 50 mph and Millie nearly throw off the Earth’s rotation, glad most riders should have options...

6/8/2026 10:29am The Alpinestars system has been mandatory equipment for motorcycle rally raid (Dakar etc) for a few years now and to my knowledge nobody has yet had an issue with it just 'going off' on a false positive, "I was just swapping out at 100mph in the sand but was totally going to save it if not for the airbag" scenario. The overwhelming majority of people in the world face zero ER fees but my last hospital stay was still 3 nights in, invasive emergency surgery and an additional week off work to recover so $850CAD to mitigate that seems pretty...

6/8/2026 10:29am They have less data recently because Strava closed off their API. Now you can't have trailforks auto update from strava, you have to directly link in your Garmin device to both services, which is another step that most people don't do.

6/8/2026 8:39am Were you screaming from the rafters for the juniors to be the last one down on the hill last year or have you always been a hypocrite? I, for one, like watching bikes going down hill. I'm not particularly picky about much else.

6/8/2026 8:38am It cannot be overstated how huge the women getting top billing in Leogang is. I just watched Vali’s YouTube from Loudenvielle and they’ve absolutely nailed it. I hope she can stay happy and overcome what must be insane pressure to be the last rider to drop on the day. Holy shit!

6/8/2026 8:38am I dislocated the lunate bone in my left wrist 20+ years ago, It's a horrible injury that I still deal with. Hoping Bruni's surgery is succesful and he's able to come back, wrists are gnarly because of all the working pieces in it.
