Nike’s final pullout from snowboarding is even more crazy because the program was making money (very decent money by most standards, like several million a year) but the actual ROI percentage wasn’t enough for the main corporate bean counters so they just cut it all off one day. I wouldn’t be surprised if Nike already had some plans on MTB with the relaunch of ACG this past winter. However, we’ve seen that come an go at least once before.

I could give this a go, would back to back race sim laps be enough to provide accurate results? At least in a way that it is consistently one way or the other?

John Karrasch (@flexfitbyjohn on Instagram) is doing real world rolling resistance testing (using Chung method) of the current crop of XC and gravel tyres. He’s dabbled with trail casing of XC tread like BRR has, but not into the trail, enduro, DH etc type tyres that this forum is normally interested in. I’ll ask him if he’s interested in this current question of radial RR.

Dario from PB was riding one at Sun Peaks July 2/3 (think they were doing a field test, saw Matt Beer and Jesse Melamed aswell). He just grinned at the question of how to compares to the old one. Dunno if was anything but I also saw a Banshee DH bike at Silverstar two days later with a bunch of telemetry related stuff on the rear of the bike, not keen enough to have noticed if it was a revised Legend or if it pertained to the rear shock (didn't recognize it)

Let me say more clearly what was implied in my previous post: those old road bike rolling resistance tests tell me that our own internal rolling resistance gauges in our brains are not very trustworthy. I'm not convinced that radial tires roll slower because the only evidence we have is that they feel like they roll slower. 21mm tires pumped up to 120 psi feel fast as hell on asphalt. As you go faster, you get more and more vibration feedback from the tire, giving the sensation of greater and greater speed. A 32mm tubeless GP5000 pumped up to 60...

Slow clap. Part of the reason why road bikes came with 19-23mm tires pumped up to 120+ psi is because they felt faster than bigger or softer tires, and because of flawed test methodology (testing tires on smooth steel drums in a lab vs. testing on real asphalt). I've heard a lot of people in the tire forum say that radials roll slower, and they certainly might. But until I see actual test results using a methodology that makes sense, I'm going to assume that no one knows the answer to that question.

It's possible they locked the production bike at a certain point and the world cup team is still fiddling extracting more performance. You don't need to produce what the team is riding, there could be differences to make the bike more palatable to the general public...

I have a semi reliable source claiming the Norco Team DH bike is embargoed for the weekend of the Whistler WC.

To give him his full credit; Graves actually has a couple of Australian national championships in short-track XC formats plus 4X rainbow stripes, EWS overall, DH worlds bronze and made the finals in Olympic BMX.

Forgot Harriet also did some cyclocross world cups. So 4 different disciplines at WC level with only xc being the exception of racing in U23 and not elite

Oh cool. Harriet Herndon was a fantasy pick last year, and I've been rooting for her to win that 100k! Crossover was much more common in the early days. I remember that both Myles Rockwell and Jake Watson were both top cross country racers just as downhill was starting to take shape. Juli Furtado won a downhill World Championship. More recently, Jared Graves, I think, could do cross country races at a pretty high level. I believe that the Logar sisters race both, but I don't think I've seen many other cross over elite racers for a loooong time. Baumann...

Everybody serving the gearbox coolaid and how ebikes are getting them and how that will trickle down to pedal bikes, remember that the Avinox and Gaobao or whatever they are called have a CVT gearbox using two electric motors. That kind of a "gearbox" (integrated variable transmission to be precise) is wholly incompatible with bikes that do not have batteries. The only viable gearbox option covering both ebikes and bikes is the Pinion which is, functionally (speaking in volumes), non existent in both camps. As @Shinook and @Uncle Cliffy have said, the future has been promised for years now with...

Where did I say I don't want a future world with gearboxes? In fact the opposite is true, I just want to make it better. It's like how blind patriotism without any drive to improve the nation is just nationalism. Claiming that current gearboxes are the pinnacle of possible engineering and development is flat out wrong. I want gearboxes to...
All the reviewers who rode that bike (Priority) said it was a slog to ride, but got slightly better over time with miles put on so the gears break in. I wonder if there's a reason that Pinion doesn't pre break-in their gearboxes before shipping them out. It would likely make the consumer experience much better.

"Among the highlights of the collection are the Centric RC MIPS and Cadence RC MIPS helmets, two models already established within the SCOTT range but updated to remain the brand's reference for competitive use. Both models feature the MIPS protection system, designed to reduce the rotational forces transmitted to the brain during oblique impacts. They also include a specific goggle holder (Centric RC only) and features designed to maximize aerodynamic performance." my attempt at a palete cleanser to get this forum back on track. Scott XC team is wearing some new interesting looking helmets. Caught my eye is this weekend. Is the black piece another attempt at the canyon breakaway helmet, is it just a fancy sunglass holder, maybe aero? Couldn't find a great photo but its odd looking.

So... In terms of triple headers, this has got to be the best venue on the UCI MTB circuit right? The downhill track is sick, the XC track nearly looked like an enduro track I saw dudes gapping rock gardens on 120/120 bikes... And the enduro looked gnarlier than the DH including a night stage (on maybe the hardest section). Not sure how many other triple headers there are, or even double headers for that matter... But wow this new venue seems to have done everything 'right'

Good to see Jordan keep it up right off the last drop. Healing vibes to Oscar Griffiths who had a bad one off of it in qualies. According to Ollie M on the downtime podcast he’s in ICU but stable, they will know in a few days.
