Yes! It’s great the men will have to practice in that first session! Just like the removal of protection and the euros having to deal with Korean jet lag, it’s nice to switch it up. The women’s racing is definitely the best it’s ever been, they deserve the spotlight. And it’ll be interesting to see how the colder wetter shorter (?) less dialed practice affects which men how…

How organizers still approach elite sports events as standalone products instead of marketing assets still blows my mind. In most cases, a World Cup weekend will never generate positive revenue if you only look at the direct cashflow during the event itself. The picture changes once you factor in media coverage, long term tourism, bike sales, brand image, destination marketing and overall communication value. A World Cup should be part of a bigger strategy and not treated as a one weekend business case. If a region has no long term MTB vision, no plans to grow the scene, infrastructure or...

I think it's pretty short sighted to judge a World Cup MTB event purely on whether it turns a profit over the race weekend. Very few major sporting events pay for themselves through ticket sales alone. The real value is the tourism, media exposure and long term positioning of the destination. In the case of the Whiteface event, the article...

^^^^ Luke Meier-Smith is having a solid start to the season (top 20 in both races) and he had a great "off season" in Crankworx. I wouldn't be surprised to see him on at least one podium before they leave Europe this year.

Jackson’s DSQ had nothing to do with the poles themselves, other than the wind blowing him outside of them. If it had been tape instead, the same thing happens except he’s tangled up in tape too.

I feel like you answered your own question when you said " a ton of people already do it for SXS, boats, and motorcycles." If the SXS, boat, and motorcycle people are making money by financing their overpriced toys, why would high-end bike companies not want to get in on the action with their overpriced toys? Yes, financing a high-end shiny ebike is completely unnecessary, unwise, financially imprudent, all of that. But so are cigarettes and gambling, and they're doing great!

11 hour flight Sydney to Seoul is short for an Australian. Sydney to Dubai is 14 hours then add another 7 or 8 into the EU is the norm. With our Kiwi cuzzies having it even worse. South Korea being in the same time zone to Australia is more of a bonus than the actual flight time.

Agree. We have 3 of us splitting the standard subscription which makes it a little more palatable. Kayo would have been perfect.

Arc’teryx is in a very different position to most brands entering MTB, and the current numbers make it clear why they can afford to treat it as a fringe category without pressure. They sit inside the Technical Apparel segment of Amer Sports, which also owns Salomon, Wilson Sporting Goods and Atomic. That group context matters because it brings scale, shared...

Arc will focus on selling in their own brand stores and online, which will be a challenge in itself.
