re: rushing the finish, in a chat of videographers at the race, filmer, TJ Smith is going to get x-rays on his leg as he was smushed in the melee near max at the end and it was reported that a girl in the crowd was removed w/ a bone sticking out of her arm (compound fracture). perfect storm of racing, fans, alcohol and narrow spaces. lawlor said he was near a barrier before the end of the race and realized it was a bad idea and got away from it. it was leaning in at 45 degrees once everyone...

I'm not actually 100% sure of what I witnessed today. This was by far the most unhinged thing I've ever seen involving bikes. Conditions, weather, riding, fans, etc... all completely unhinged.

At least you made it back from your ride. I’ve run out of food and water after 90% done with a ride. Every time I would push down on the pedal stroke my adductor muscle would get a spasming cramp. This usually only happens on one leg but I’ve had it progress to both legs once. Could not pedal at all even on flat sections. Embarrassing walk of shame. I ran out of food/water once after 13k vert climbing doing back to back 14ers in CO(Elbert/Antero) and was straight delusional by the end. The food I was thinking about eating...

Two things to mention after listening to the latest episode: The UCI cancelling the World Cup series for enduro but retaining the World Champs is the same thing they did to 4X in 2012. Surprised nobody's brought this up as a comparison yet. (Obviously, the two disciplines aren't exactly the same, but how many other times has the UCI cancelled a series while clinging to the right to hand out rainbow jerseys?) SSCXWC is an awesome event, and I remember when cyclocross legend Sven Nys (then recently retired) showed up to the event in 2016 and maybe-probably deliberately avoided winning...

One thing about the decline of world Enduro I always noticed was that a lot of the riders, especially the French, believed their job was solely to win the race, with next to no brand, location or even lifestyle promotion. I can name a dozen sick french riders from the early years that you probably would struggle to find any edits or interviews of from back then. Contrast this with Santa Cruz bikes who mostly (and I don't mean this offensively) sent out a few riders tot he EWS to get nice photos and clips of. Like we all know...

Ew. So you take your socks off. And you put your socks back on? Your soaked-with-sweat socks? I was gonna say this whole core discussion was definitely over (including these guys saying that the Les Gets finish line barbarian wave is too much) but forget all that: You’re barefoot for a time before pulling sweaty socks BACK ON and dropping in? I’m obviously 2 legit to discuss this topic but there’s no other word for it. Core.

The kneepads-always-on crew clearly ain't from my neck of the woods. If you do a big climb in the southeast in July or August, removing your shoes to put your kneepads back on at the top of a climb gives you the opportunity to also remove your socks and wring the sweat out of them. Bonus of taking knee pads on and off is that you can link that activity in your mind to disengaging the climb switch on your shock and unwinding LSC on your fork back to its normal setting. For me, those two things always go together...

Kneepads at ankles is the way to go and I refuse any other opinion on the matter. I prefer my knees not constantly feeling like they are going to get some form of trenchfoot (trenchknee?)

Everything I do is core and everything I don't isn't. Casing jumps, Mid pack finishes at my local races, slightly creaky frame. Super core

I almost feel like it has rounded the bend where so many kooks and intermediate riders ride flats that clips are core again

I remember Semenuk being quite specific about MTB not being very core in comparison to skate or BMX: https://youtu.be/rncB849eguA?is=joDDAfjFMJo2sWPR Which makes me wonder, in terms of core, Semenuk: The rider: very core The edits: pretty core People who say he is their favourite rider: usually not core

I say one way you know you are core if you build frame up (at least some of the time) vs buy a complete bike. Idk why but it seems to me that most of my core friends do that. The real answer is if you ride as much as you possibly can whether it is alone, with friends, pedaling, bike park, good weather or bad. If you want to ride no matter what you are core. Most important is alone. If you don't ride solo you don't really like riding.

You’re only core if you help to build or maintain trails, otherwise you’re just a person using the trails. Obviously it’s hardcore if you do it all yourself. Half of why I go to the gym is to make building and maintaining forest trails easier and faster.
