First up, thank you to the Vital team for presenting our product here! Since a few questions came up, I wanted to chime in and clarify a bit what we mean by the Tune Adjusters. As @Slavid666 analyzed pretty much spot-on, the High-Speed Tune Adjuster changes the port configuration underneath a non-preloaded tapered shim stack. With each adjuster position, one additional port is closed off, changing the hydraulically loaded area of the stack. The shim stack itself stays exactly the same, but the way it is loaded changes, which therefore changes the slope of the resulting force-velocity curve. That is...

I know Lapierre is still a desirable brand making quality bicycles (whether they exist in the middle of the barbell, not withstanding), but I looked up Raleigh's current product lineup on their website, and my how the mighty have fallen. It wasn't that long ago that everyone I knew had a Raleigh Furley for commuting or riding cyclocross, but now Raleigh is just generic mass-market Walmart bikes with the Raleigh label slapped on them. Ironically the Union Jack flag is still flying proudly all over the website, even though these bikes have as much to do with the UK as...

This is what worries me. I get the technical benefits of putting a kid on an ebike, but at the same time they're going to see that you don't need to put in the effort to get to the top. Just another shortcut in life that's so popular these days. Maybe if you could limit it to a certain level and not have any assist levels, only on or off, but it will still be a pain when they go to a regular bike. Which they will have to if they want to race for example. IMO it's too much...

Jeff, Location is literally the only thing that matters for small-scale bike shops these days. To really thrive, many, many, things out of the control of a small business owner need to exist. To thrive, once it took building community in your store with group rides, racing, etc. Car-centric culture and social media driven concepts like strava have decimated the traditional ways an enthusiastic entrepreneur could build a business. People are afraid to ride road bikes, people’s egos have been cultivated to cater to Strava Kudos instead of Wednesday Night Worlds… the reality of bike shop ownership has become full...

Jeff, Yes, I know multiple shops that opened new accounts with new brands to try to get themselves some Avinox stock while the hype was boiling… Say someone wanted to open up a Pivot account(they had a couple Avinox bikes that were briefly in stock a month or so ago)…. that intial buy-in is a lot of cash. So say you bought your 3 bikes to open your account and only one of them is Avinox powered and saleable immediately for full-price… you are stuck with two bikes that were very expensive, and on paper, less-good” than the bike with...

Anecdotally, I have noticed multiple shops this summer that are down on stock of things like helmets, stems, pedals, gloves etc. because they frantically tied up their free cash pre-ordering Avinox equipped bikes... that still aren’t on the floor… in that brief period before all the Eeb-talk went Gobao and E-cvt shaped. This is all pretty much exactly what Richard Cunningham predicted when he resigned from Pinkbike a few years ago. A horsepower-driven race to the bottom.

How hard was it to press the cup in initially? There's no way a proper interference fit headset cup should be able to rotate so either the fit is too loose or something has happened thats made the fit looser

Or maybe people are reacting to your lack of respect for their time. You’ve added a signature to every one of your posts advertising your AI coded product in a forum where almost no one uses a signature so it’s basically spam. When you asked a technical question and were given resources that answered your question in great detail written by an industry subject matter expert you used AI to read it for you and it gave you a wrong answer which others had to correct. People are putting time into knowledge sharing and you’re here just slop-posting which is...

Didn’t call you dumb, but “reading” with AI and completely missing the point of the whole link is in fact dumb, nothing I can do about it, in the post linked there are recommendations, coming to your own conclusions and ending your post with “ehehe” like you’re the clever one or something just makes the posts insufferable, like the link at the end of every single post, we got it.

Quick anecdote: I’ve convinced myself to race the MSC DH at Targhee, and the Geometron G1 I pieced together isn’t quite what I hoped it would be, at least not yet. Hence, I started looking for a proper DH bike that wouldn’t break the bank and every bike that was in my budget is out of stock. Then I started shopping for a handful of other DH-adjacent items, shoes, pants, gear, etc., and had the same reaction: inventory feels noticeably lighter across the board. And again, bargain pricing also seems much harder to find. Really hard, actually, which I guess...

I'll emphasize this question. I've never understood what's so special about the DJI motor other than ridiculous levels of power and assist, especially compared to a TQ motor. The DJI motor doesn't seem to have some magical battery. The efficiency doesn't seem to be that much, if any, better. It's always seemed to me that a lot of the form...

Refreshed the page and my answer was gone. So short form: first Bosch motor was derived from a windscreen motor. Electrical motors and lithium ion batteries are not new technologies and more power is limited by mechanics and battery capacity/quality/bmx but in the end you configure the motor power via software. Cheap chinese ebikes had thousands of watts for years and the only reason pedelecs didn't have that much power allocated via software was to keep the status as a bicycle with all the perks attached to it.

I've heard the Bosch motor is capable of a lot more power... They say they could put out Avinox type of power, but they feel that sticking to the current class structure is the better move..

Well said! All the buzz around Avinox basically comes from them 'unlocking' more power by software. It's basically just ecu tuning but with an electrical motor it's even easier because the mechanics aren't as complex. The other manufacturers could just more or less follow suit with simple ota software updates. But in the end this power arms race will inevitably lead to restrictions in form of trail or even fireroad access. Because unlocking more and more power from these motors and bigger batteries will just lead to more people blasting those trails and fireroads at higher speeds. So before we...

Avinox built a decent product on round 1, and an improved product on round 2. But the basis of their success was offering Class 2+ that pretended to be Class 1, and this has cost the other manufacturers dearly in terms of sales, margin & market share. These not legal motor systems, technically an e-motorcycle, are a danger to our sport and it's reasonable for the other manufacturers to have an expectation to compete on a fair playing field with only other Class 1 motor systems. If you want to argue that the Class 1 standards should be adjusted, that's...

I think it's a Statement to ensure what bosch and TQ(coming soon) are going to commit to, max 750watts with speed restrictions staying within guidelines except for certain countries like NZ where bosch(trek said ok) recently allowed up to 45kmph. I'd Like to see some restrictions around Assist multiplier, Which is where the Avinox get's alot of its love, despite people saying "i love 150nm and 1500watts, its so easy" But in reality whats actually making it easier is the 800% of input - this is not talked about enough. Bosch Did the right thing IMO and limited the 600%...

PR in from Trek about e-bike standards Trek calls on bike industry to adopt voluntary e-bike speed standards [WATERLOO, WI] – Trek Bicycle today announced its new voluntary electric bike speed standards in the United States. These self-imposed standards are designed to help protect trail access, improve safety, and preserve places to ride for future generations. The company is inviting other bike manufacturers to adopt similar self-imposed standards. All Trek electric mountain bikes sold in the United States will be Class 1 and will: • Have a 20mph maximum pedal-assist speed • Will not have a throttle All Trek electric...

Depends how the battery is removed. With a small form factor motor like two sliding out different length batteries at the bottom of the downtube can be realized with a minimal weight penalty plus you get a lower center of gravity with the smaller battery. I do that all the time and most of my rides are done with the smaller battery and it handles much better that way.
