Pricing on that bike is pretty gnarly but I get it. People in the PB comments are big mad about it, but it will sell. They complained about demo prices and I saw dozens of them in Whistler when I went last month.
Norco has been spending money on development and roster like it’s going out of fashion ever since they started with the new range. I’d be happy to pick up a torrent when they are available to support them. (Too slow to justify the team DH lol)
Side note: Wasn’t norco one of the teams that announced they were canceling their DH program shortly after the COVID boom and when Blankinsop left?
Doing specific molds, single size shock cradles, and etc seems like an expensive way to do it, but honestly, it kind of feels like the right way to do it. It's expensive, and they make another bike to grab if you're on a budget. I dig it.

For real, it's expensive but how much r and d they did and the likely low volume of sales make the price make sense to me. The Torrent would also make a killer race bike for people on a tighter budget, but I think a lot of people have gotten lost in the Freeride marketing.

It does sorta look like the top of galby. I haven’t been up there in a while, and I heard there’s a taco truck and a flannel shop near the radio tower now. Also: it would be very transition to make a bike that pools water under the lower shock mount like that. And abandon the recently lauded chips design at that same location. Very transition.
That pic was taken at 27. My understanding is that bike was an unreleased Diamondback proto.
That’s super possible, but one of the main marketing guys at rides a lot of DVO stuff and he is the only one I’ve seen in recent years ride DVo plus this looks EXACTLY like the bike I saw online. It would be super sick if Transition went a different way to get a much more modern cinematic the only thing I’d be worried about is them executing the frame quality.

I know this sounds kind of crazy but to me it looks like they just made a new aluminum front triangle for the range to handle a downhill shock size along with a couple other things. Hopefully their bikes get a little better cause the range was so much worse than the version one dreadnought. It just seems super excessive to make a bike that is basically the same Bike they already had out.

It's an involved and expensive way to make size specific rear centres......and then only change them 2.5mm between sizes.

I did, but that’s just all marketing talk. It uses the same suspension system. So in theory, it is just an updated Norco range The range never accommodated a 75 stroke shock so I bet you they just made some pivot adjustments. There’s 1 million designs you could do for a bike. It just seems odd to me that they settled on the exact same design as the Norco range.

"From afar, the Team DH resembles the Range - the bike Norco used as a stepping stone to enter World Cup racing again. Norco appreciated the Range's rearward axle path, but the four-bar linkage limited how much travel was possible before the progression went above their desired levels. A high main pivot and idler wheel remain, but other than that, it's an entirely new linkage system."

I think you kind of nailed the point- DH bike development isn't for selling DH bikes but selling trail bikes. The R & D probably helps the whole line up of bikes, but it raises the brands profile so much it doesnt matter if they make the money back on DH bike sales or not. Despite the high prices it wouldnt surprise me if they still aren't hugely profitable at all

I'm with you on this. I always look at it like F1 is to the car industry. Some of that good tech eventually trickles into the grocery getters that I drive and I am better off for it.
I like that some companies try crazy or impractical designs without considering cost. There are plenty of "dumbed" down DH bikes for people like me, but i do appreciate that there is super high end DH bikes that I can drool over and maybe ride in a parking lot someday.
Also think I heard on a podcast onetime that the DH bikes that companies sell are in the hundreds to low thousands... I bet they are lucky to recoup the R&D cost alone.

Unrelated, I sheared the 11t cog off of a deore cassette on a M2S powered e bike the other day, simple boost mode parking lot test. Definitely not likely to happen on trail, but something consumers should be aware of.

Linkglide is the only e-bike appropriate drivetrain at this time. Which is sort of amazing to think that SRAM currently has nothing to truly compete. Linkglide/ Di2 is also the only e-bike appropriate drivetrain that can be hardwired to an e-bike motor, the Bosch.
Still, what exactly did you think would happen running a 2.7 hp motor, on pavement with such high traction, in top gear on a bicycle cassette, and probably at speeds well below 20 mph so likely at a low cadence?

I say it all the time: 12 speed is just not meant for ebikes. Zero problems on Microshift Advent MX 11 speed: steel cassette with a Linkglide chain. Same for Deore 11sp. Even then with my Shimano motor de-tuned to 60nm I only get 500mi out of a chain.
I pedaled an Orbea Wild Avinox around in a parking lot recently and am not surprised this happened in the slightest. Way too much power. It's a shame Big Derailleur™️ doesn't make a fully wireless 11sp. I've had random shorts and electrical issues on a past ebike and when the bike wouldn't turn on it was great that it just be came a really heavy mountain bike since the derailleur wasn't wired into the battery.
Almost 2000miles on my latest kmc x10 chain. 70nm e8000 and 11spd microshift steel 11-50 cassette.
Ill be changing it soon with a new cassette, mx r der , and a fresh x10. I think its the 2nd chain on the current cassette. I dont think itd be the 3rd
Not cheap but I appreciate that it comes with the two idler brackets, the offset headset cups and the sprindex, where some brands would have made them extra.
Glad I'm not fast, my good old Horst link is more than enough and a lot cheaper

Range was a 4 bar, the Team DH is a 6 bar.
The DH is a Four bar linkage with two actuating links, not a Six bar in the sense of Commencal or Scott, where the extra arms define wheelpath. Obviously there's a lot more to linkages than 4 vs 6, and this new bike absolutely is not the "same" as the range, but they are both Four bar.
Lawlor caught a different angle of the “Saint” brakes. New bleed port location
New saint is looking hot, but honestly I just want to know when that Yeti DH bike is gonna be released. It's been like 3 years now.
RELEASE THE BIKE COWARDS!!!
Both Yeti DH and Atherton Gearbox should be released next year
That's the bleed port their cheap brakes have been using for a hot minute.
Always liked them better than the classic bleed nipple. Nice.
Also the angle seems pretty ideal for both ends of the bike.
I wonder if transition is the new yeti....
Larsnbars tested a Yeti LT for Vital... coincidence? 🤔
If the new Transition isn't spotted in the Santa Cruz parking lot, I'll be extremely disappointed..
more forbidden crab. uses the front triangle from the e-dreadnaught
Norco DH is official - https://www.vitalmtb.com/forums/hub/norcos-new-team-dh-bike-and-hvp6-su…
Minaar must like small bikes with the longest reach being 503
longest reach on an XL v10 is 508
I mean he has been racing a long time. Imagine what he got used to.
For perspective, the V1 following XL had a reach of 457, and they said that was for people 6'4" and up.
