Santa Cruz owners club email just went out with Elliot Jackson riding a "Vala Lite". Looks like same Vala just with a gram-counting light build. Thought I was on Specialized's website for a second. Carcinisation continues.

While I’m no 32er apologist. I’m old enough to remember this exact argument when 29ers came out. I was working at a shop in College when 29ers started to hit the market, people would come in and actually get pissed at us for having 29ers on the floor. Anyone remember anti-29er stickers on people’s cars? I can remember a few different stickers, one said “One less 29’er”. I even remember being at a trail head in Pisgah in college, my buddy unloaded his 29er from the back of my truck and a “local” said “those aren’t welcome here”. No one...

Ollie with Forbidden Bikes was bombing around at Mount Washington today on an unmarked frame resembling the eeb layout but the front triangle appeared to be slimmed down with a more conventional BB area. Had a Lyrik on it, no pictures unfortunately.

It's friday and that sounds like the perfect time to start a fight about wheel sizes again! Not exactly MTB, but Cube is supposedly dropping a 32" gravel in it's 2027 lineup. Saw this image floating around, first brand to commit to 30.5" ? Would hate to be an inventory manager right now...

Well it's up to the rider for buying a frame that is not rated to their weight. Don't get me wrong, I'm not protecting them and it's something that would make me hesitate buying a Cube A LOT if I was in the market, but the fact of the matter is that they communicated that fairly well via their site. Better than most other brands I'd say. You have a ton of components that don't even have a category of use attached to them.

Why not, instead of crank arms, make crank discs? Solid 304 stainless steel. You could put several holes in there, offset, so you can choose different “crank lengths” just by switching your pedals into different threaded holes. Adds weight, centered right around the bottom bracket. Ultimate bash guard as well! I should be an engineer. I’d succeed big time (or not).

Bro, how much additional unsprung mass (AUM) you runnin’? Life starts at +5kgs. What is tweaking sprung/unsprung mass ratio really achieving that could not be done with the traditional suspension parameters. An over sprung and under damped system? Static and/or dynamic friction? I get that heavier bikes -> greater inertia -> harder to knock around off line. Is it as simple as this? Enlighten (get it?) me.

There won't be any littering because anyone that drops a weight by accident will INSTANTLY notice the change in suspension performance

John Tomac is widely considered one of the greatest (American) mountain bike racers of all time. During the early years of international racing he won numerous DH and XC events. He went on to be the namesake and involved with Tomac bikes. The 204 DH frame in the photo was their flagship model. The bike company then ceased to exist (in the late 2000s?). I also believe he helped coach several (a lot?) of racers over the years including Aaron Gwin for a time. Finally, if you’re into motocross, he is the father of Eli Tomac. Basically, John Tomac was...

Young un's. 😀 He's one of the original legends. Think Gary Fisher, Bontrager et al. https://www.pinkbike.com/news/the-legacy-of-john-tomac-in-cycling-histo… I have no idea if Tomac is still involved in the Tomac brand but there's a lot of nostalgia around the name.

Excuse my ignorance, why is the Tomac a big deal? I see the appeal, the bike has that retro look and I dig it. But this is the first in my 28 years I have heard Tomac…

MoldyMTB Liked a forum topic Some thoughts on the Oneup Wave pedals (review)

8/8/2026 1:49am
TLDR - I have been riding these pedals since the start of summer. They are my new favorite pedals, dethroning my previous favorite the Deity Deftrap. Imo the "wave" concept seems like a gimmick and doesnt seem to work the way they intended, I didnt notice my heels dropping unless I did it on purpose. Instead, the wave design achieves something else; it provides great grip that I can rely on while pounding through rough chunky terrain, but still allows me to re-adjust foot position on the fly - something i struggled with on my Deftraps. I have had no...

I know those have some actual heft to them but the fact they are stick-on is giving me flashbacks to when some pros were running those anti-vibration "crystals" aka stickers on their bikes.

Lead is problematic for multiple reasons. If you need something around the same density (i.e. steel isn't doing it for you) then I suggest 10 carat gold.

It sure does look a little bit like a composite one, that’s for sure, but I haven’t got a clue. I saw the new Baracon in Järvsö over the past weekend, it looks very neat and tidy. Looks better than the Coron in my opinion.
