brace yourself... at the end of the year, we're going to lock this thread. while it's been amazing (thank you all!) and fun that we hit 1000 pages and over 7.5m views, this thread is a logistical and technical resource hog. it's also not easy to access older information. while there are a lot of upsides to the ease and convenience of posting to this thread, the downsides are outweighing the ups with it being so massive. please start a NEW thread to the hub for anything that has potential for legitimate discussion. good posts will be homepaged and the...

I would love to see a deep dive on Orbea. I am fascinated by the basque style cooperative model and would like to hear your take on the advantages and disadvantages in comparison to a more traditional corporate structure.

I get the desire to move on from this story, but it deserves the attention it is getting. Here is why: First, there is not much else happening in the space. The Felt news is interesting, and I reached out to Cesar and may do something there later. He is a great guy. Outside of that, the only real story right now, in my view, is the health of the consumer, which everytime I bring up in conversation i get glazed eyeballs (lol...its riveting!). When you compare that to the personality of Markus, the very public way he is handling...

More like “ship of thieves” amirite? I’m going to go out on a limb and say that when a ship runs aground losing life and bounty and another captain buys the name, slaps it on a new, smaller ship, hires a few of the same deck hands and sets sail in the same rocky, shark infested waters it is not...

OMG this took me too my emotionally hijacked self. I've been with my wife for over 20 years at this point (I swear I'm not that old, we just met young) and I've thrown a full blown temper tantrum meltdown 3-4 times in that time period. The biggest one was a similar story getting ready for a CES event at mammoth and trying to get the car loaded to head up there after a long day at work. I fought a tire and insert for 2 hours, also putting a hole in the tape, taking it all apart and starting...

I felt this story in the marrow of my bones. I haven’t had your exact experience on the same wheel, but every part of your story I have experienced on one day or another. In a related story, last month I finally decided that I will never ever buy the small roll of tubeless tape or small bottle of sealant ever again. If I change rim size and have 30 meters of extra 30mm tape sitting around, so be it. Cannot afford the existential pain of having 6” too little rim tape ever again.

Well, call me a moron, but this 6’ 1” large frame riding person is going to buy this totally unrideable bike. I look forward to looping out, my front wheel washing on every turn, lack of stability over 8 mph, and curling up in the fetal position in the middle of every ride. I’ll report back.

Maybe I don’t fully understand what you mean by “ which just narrowly thwarted bankruptcy” but the original The Pros Closet was fully liquidated with all assets sold off and the current incarnation relaunching having purchased the IP. Quoting below from the Bicycle Retailer story. It may be a little semantic but I think the lesson of the original business...
As an older “athlete” my goals and vision of fitness are ever evolving but the trend is to think about it as a long term project with less focus on specific events or outcomes. Racing is becoming more intermittent while the desire to adventure increases. To answer your questions - Fitness to me is a never ending alchemy of a...

I don't know if this was mentioned before, but Guardian bikes, that kids bike manufacturer that makes those really weird brakes that do the front and rear with one lever and cable, are pushing for bikes to have a 50% tarrif in the US. https://www.bicycleretailer.com/industry-news/2025/10/08/peopleforbikes… We should do what we can to get them to knock off the BS, I've sent an email about it personally. This would seriously wreck the bike market in the US, even for them.

I agree that our athletes and "stars" are awesome, but I also think it's a healthy sign of maturation of the sport that people are looking for these distinctions in personalities and looking to root for specific athletes and create narratives and stories around those athletes.

I wonder if this increase in price and marginal gain will drive a return to building a bike from the frame up. That has really disappeared post Covid and was pretty rare pre covid for the most part. The complete bike price has been so much lower then the sum of its parts it was impossible to cost effective build a frame only. I know now I'm looking at frame options to upgrade my 2020 enduro bike.... So many parts have been changed at this point a new frame would really freshen up the whole situation. Also YT's current 50%...

So many good ones but TB100 is a shoe-in for obvious reasons... Extra points considering it's a mudder and every single pair of his kit will be RUINED by Sunday. It's gonna be sick to like hang a collection of muddy TB100 jerseys somewhere. Put those on the mantle!!

A guy I know was on his first solo mountain bike ride when he started cramping up. Had that first bike / new hobby stoke and was trying out the route we’d shown him the week prior. He hadn’t done a ton of long cardio activities in a while, and ended up getting roasted on a hot day. Mega cramps had him walking the final trail back, with some sit downs and some groaning. Those really gnarly leg cramps that just debilitate you. Not particularly funny. Until a rider came by and helped by offering water and an energy packet...

There is an interesting interplay going on here between the human brains capacity to normalize things that have been seen/done before, expanded boundaries of athletic performance and a few new tracks evolving up to a comparative level. I think if we could see 1199 with “new” eyes, watching riders learn the track for the first time, it would likely be...
I’ve tried many hip sacks over the years and with every new purchase have trended more minimalist. My current go to is the Evoc trail belt. This belt has all of the features I want and holds everything I need for rides up to 15-20 miles. I just would like to see some of the features more well executed. Feature...

If you add a dab of grease to the bearing the bike will leave the shop silent only to shake loose at the optimal time for max annoyance. Don’t ask me how I know.
