Apologies if I missed it (I’ve only consumed about 800 of the 846 pages in this forum while I shoulda been working or parenting) but is the 38 imminently due for a release?
Assuming it’ll have a a staggered announcement like all these others trickling out but haven’t seen much chatter about the 38. Burly single crowns are my jam.
I vaguely recall some talk of a Fox USD fork a while back but not much else in the forums about a new 38 so wondering whether it’ll get a major overhaul or the same kind of incremental updates as the 36.
This information is on one of the 46 pages you haven't read yet. In all seriousness, I don't recall seeing any information regarding the 38... but I...

HBO is a nice "safety" feature - you can make a good shock without it so I'm not sure if its a deal breaker but I would definitely prefer HBO than externally adjustable High speed rebound.

Yup! One of the major problems with coil shocks on OE bikes is the majority of them get sold without changing the spring so the chances of excessive bottoming is way higher....anything to help reduce the damage is definitely a good thing

Yup but energy and heat aren't the same thing - a small alloy bolt only needs a small amount of energy to raise its temperature while a comparatively large shock needs far more energy to heat it to the same amount. Point a heat gun at a shock bolt for 5 seconds then pick it up - it will probably be too hot to handle, but do that to a shock and it will be barely any warmer than before, even though received the same amount energy (probably not quite because surface area but you get the point).
I think the reason I mentioned it was with the Scott specifically I have worked on those bikes and found the fit of the bushings at the trunnion mount crazy tight so it was a possibility, unlike normal eyelets. Also heat is slow to be conducted across 2 different parts, so for it to be able to transfer the energy through the threads of the bolt and outside the frame would mean the shock is getting REALLY hot

Do temps of mountain bikes shocks really matter, when you can just tune it for a given temperature range? If you know during a DH run your shock will be in the 40-55C range, just tune it for that range. Its not like thats outside the envelope of what suspension oil can handle.
Anyways, ignore what I said above, I'm developing a new product thats a Graphene additive to your suspension fuild that makes it 28.99% more tempurature stable, which in real life testing improves your suspension performance by at least 1 place on the poduim, even if you're not racing and just out on a solo ride.
Ohhh yeah good call....I'm pretty sure graphene is the solution for everything!
But yeah you pretty much nailed it - shocks generally stabilise around a fairly small window so really when you do your tuning you are always adjusting for how it feels when its warm anyway. The biggest temperature effects come from the change in pressure in the air spring or reservoir (if it has a large shaft, eg DVO) which can be noticeable in certain situations though

I thought I had posted this weeks ago, with what I think is a new 38, it could be the 36, but that bike seems more suited to a 38.
Neko said in the Jensons Fox 36 video that he was running the new 36 at 160mm instead of a 38 at 170mm and just lived with the axle to crown being 7mm shorter.

All mountain is so back it's actually so back all hail the 140-160mm trail bike!

What if... the usd fork we keep rumourin' about it's actually the first 32" production fork (possibly an XC fork)? IIRC there was a photo some time ago of an Intend usd with a 32" wheel, most likely a modified 29" Samurai XC fork.

I just feel like that would be one of the worst ways to introduce a new step into a companies portfolio and advancement. Making a possibly very advantageous fork and then proceed to gate keep it, behind a very big (literally) new wheel size standard that no one has really asked for.
Who am I kidding? We are mountain bikers! We are very open minded to new ideas and changes.
After spending some time on it, it’s basically a mandatory feature for me now.
Now that I've had it, I wouldn't want to go back. It's been a luxury to run a 50lb lighter spring while also virtually eliminating bottom outs and end of travel harshness. Went from a DHX at 400lbs to a SDLX at 350 fwiw.

I wouldn't think its the HBO, but I can hit the same spot at 29% sag and 40% sag plus max to least compression set. HBO also set to max and min too.
A SDU without HBO and a X2 could use all 65mm stroke though, so the only thing I can guess is it's the HBO.
The o-ring will never go past last few mm of stanchion on a Vivid air. The full stroke is still there though. You can verify by letting all the air out and removing the valve core. Same thing happens on forks, but on some of them there's a line showing what max travel is.

Looks like the standard protective cap that all GRIP2/X2 dampers have

7 or 17 mm? Lyrik has a shorter ATC at the same travel than the ZEB. Using a shorter travel fork is a double whammy ATC wise. I'd imagine it's the same with the 36 and 38...

I went from an off the shelf ( but correct ) tune on a RS super deluxe coil with hbo
To a push 11.6 custom tuned, gen 1 so without HBO
100% this handles everything better with a 25lbs lighter spring

And without opening the article, I am sure Yamaha did not buy Brose. If anything, the ebike division/segment/technology.
Brose is a multi billion dollar company, a tier 1 supplier of the biggest automotive brands for all aspects of building a car, interior, exterior, powertrain, you name it.
Fun fact, the owner/heir/whatever is the guy who ordered the new Lancia Stratos made from a cut up Ferrari F430 and had a production run of 20 units planned until Ferrari said no to cutting up their cars.
That's the playing field of Brose. And I bet 90 % of people pronounce the name of the company wrong. Hint, it's not Bros 😉
Sorry about the potato shot screen grabs! Loics new specialized shock position seems a lot higher apart from that Ill leave it up to the masses

He said on insta that he can't wait to get on the real version of the bike. I'm assuming this is much closer to the production version than the lug and tube one he's been riding for a while
frameworks production DH frame video
New 38 is coming and it will be USD

Too good to be true

But it wont be this year.

+1, HBO or NO

Higher shock and that chainline...
forgot about this pic 🤦♂️
Looks like the standard protective cap that all GRIP2/X2 dampers have
Maybe the angle just makes it look bigger
That’s what she said

Agreed, even the potato cam quality clearly shows the chain going above the cranks. It's the new high pivot proto.

Even the rare bottom outs
So I think it’s quality over features here
Any idea what is coming from Yeti in 2 days? DH Bike, updated eBike…?
$25,000 purple anodised everything ASR
Yamaha, now makes
Pianos, motorcycles, ebike motors, electronics, and tunes engines for Auto manufacturers. That's certainly diversified manufacturing.
Edited to add, Guitars and boat motors.
Don’t forget guitars

I also forgot boat motors.
