Because they consume 2+ % more of your wattage, and that only gets worse the worse your chain maintenance gets! In addition, the idler produces more noise and potentially a rougher feel when pedaling, which can create a greater than 2% change in a subjective sense. Those losses are from chain link articulation on the highly tensioned top run of the chain: https://www.pinkbike.com/news/tested-how-much-slower-are-idler-bikes-wh… If you find evidence that electronic suspension will provide 2% gains, then it could offset the idler losses, when compared to a non idler/non electronic suspension bike, but you would still be 2% behind a non idler...

It's not the bearing. It's the chain wrapping onto and off a sprocket. With a small idler, the angle each link has to rotate is very large. And it's happening in the taught part of the chain unlike the rear derailleur. But I've explained everything in my original long post. Now this debate, besides being offtopic, has serious vibes of trying to explain things to @seanfisseli, so much so I was convinced @Trocko might be an alterego. Looks like I was wrong about that one šŸ™‚

With all these e-bike progressions getting quicker, what the likelihood we see the fast af motor gearbox e-enduro pedelecs/mopeds from major manufacture in the next 9-12 months, as these crazy machines iterate as fast as consumer electronics???? Seems like if you weee planning on buying an e-bike in the next year ish, it would make sense to wait and see what the big players are about to do to preserve market share against Dji. - yes I’ve been reading brines.

Interesting tidbit. I ran into the Norco boys doing some testing, the engineer that handles a lot of the data acquisition said that LSR doesn't show in the data and its rider preference. Apparently HSR tune is the most critical.

They do do lots of different rebound tunes and compression tunes for the midvalve with the current Float X and DHX. In the current market, they are pretty solid recommendations imho. Quite happy with my MY25 DHX. And even the older Float X and DHX feel pretty okay once the base valve is no longer absurdly hard. Maybe at some point they figure out the HSC adjusters. If one can do without the HSR, there is the performance spec for that. Would gladly get one of those MY26+ DHX2/Float X2 Performance.

Another factor is bar width. You are already losing 10mm with WT Bar Ends, add some thicker foam would take more away.

My son has the Polygon N8 and I've been pretty impressed with it. It rides well and the build quality is good. I would have no reservations about buying a Polygon. The DH7 is speced well. There's not much I would change at all (not to mention I'm a TRP fanboy and they come stock). I've had 2 Tues over the years and still have them for the kids (and mainly its not worth selling a used bike in todays market). They ride good but compared to a "real" downhill bike they feel like a enduro bike. They can usually...

Damn, you along with a couple others brought up the polygon and I conoletely forgot they existed. Super tempting bike. Might be the ticket. V4 cracking stories scare me too 🤣 I’d have a metal tr11 so hard but they are on the more scarce side for sure. There’s always a couple good ones in my size on the buy sell but they do go quick.

I’d be on that canyon like a pig on shit if they had a medium! As for the status, definitely similar. If my local shop didn’t have my size in stock for 3k flat (no tax in Oregon) I might not even know they exist. But they look like a pretty slick bike for the price. Only thing is I rented a full 200mm DH bike last week and man it was a good time. Already have a 160 bike so I kinda just want to go for the full squish.

Strictly park laps. Not a racey boy. Definitely keen on a 4/faux bar bike, and definitely aluminum. Also furious/frs bikes are out there.

I sold my Levo last fall as I barely rode it, when I did it handled like a tug boat in slow speed tech, and my regular bike (5010 MX) was just way more fun. There is something to be said for e-bikes that ride like, wait for it...bikes. The closest I've ridden was the Heckler SL clocking at 43+ lbs with pedals. If it wasn't it's limited range, lower powered motor and Fazua being toast, I'd have already bought one. I'd like to and hope to see the focus for e-bikes going forward would be full power bikes with...

Under-biking the occasional rough section is always better than over-biking everything else.

Great to have some media that focuses more on how a rider wants to ride and how it fits as a tool to fulfill those goals.

Great feature Jason. Along with a lot of other ebike riders I didn't really see the point of having an ebike with less than 160mm of travel. But with this latest batch of bikes, and especially some of the weights that are being reached, I now see a reason to have a short travel ebike on top of a super enduro version.
