6/18/2026 10:57am Don't get me started on "matchy-matchy." I have been known to consume hours when putting stickers on my helmet, making sure they are straight and symmetrical with other logos. You know you have a real problem when you are aware that sometimes you have a to put a sticker on slightly crooked so it will appear straight. Back to the levers: How does anybody ride without their levers being exactly the same? I mean, that's probably what causes Hantavirus or something.

6/17/2026 6:48am You can find SLX levers for not much more than the maven rebuild kit. Swap the contact point adjustment screw and your the same as XT. I always keep a spare set just in case. https://thundermountainbikes.com/products/shimano-slx-bl-m7100-disc-bra… I just wish they were not handed so I could keep one and be ok.

6/17/2026 6:34am Aventon is cool in my book. Sponsoring Tippie and Angel and making a quality, reasonably priced ebike. Sounds better than one more super posh boutique brand making a product that costs five figures.

6/17/2026 6:34am Frameworks does riding/training on a different brands e-bike, and races on their own frame. Aventon is doing the inverse to Frameworks 😁

5/23/2026 9:58pm Positives: Saves wear and tear on your pedal bike. DH parts are more durable and stronger, generally, since lightweighting is not a design goal. Saves your body. Makes you feel like a goddamn rockstar. Downsides: Needs a service before bike park season. Your other "big" bikes suddenly feel like they descend like shit after bike park season.

5/22/2026 7:19am Y’all are acting like bike financing (which is what leasing is, btw) is some brand-new idea. It isn’t. The basic tools have been around forever. In its most archaic form, its not all that different from opening a store card at your favorite big-box retailer. What bikes still lack is a real underwriting structure where the lender can tie the loan to the asset itself. When I finance a $100,000 truck, the bank holds the title until I pay it off. If I stop making payments, they can repossess the truck, sell it at auction, and recover at least some...

5/22/2026 6:48am Ongoing / unresolved "me problem": I like my brake levers' bite point to feel the same left/right. Of course, my left arm is weaker than my right due to being right handed, so the right lever always feels easier than left. I tend to progressively wind out my right brake levers' contact point, since that makes the bite point feel sharper. Over time, the measured bite distance discrepancy builds up - the other day I measured my right's to be a full 1cm further out than the left. Then my OCD for making things matchy-matchy kicks in, so I reset...

5/22/2026 6:48am I always set up my levers for equal bite point instead of resting distance from bar. Sometimes my are very visibly different as pads wear. As long as they feel the same when I give em a squeeze I'm happy.

5/22/2026 6:43am I would be curious to see how Shimano BL-M4100 levers fare in a Shaven setup. After spending too much time reading about Shigura setups this fall, I stumbled upon a German thread in which people were advocating for the cheaper, non-servowave levers for a more linear feel with good power. The more expensive non-servowave, XTR Race levers lack the power to really drive the calipers in a heavier-duty setup, but that's not an issue with these due to long levers producing high leverage. I now have a few days on a new Shigura setup (BL-M4100 + MT5 + Redline Likewater...

5/18/2026 7:17pm I can tell you with certainty that slx servo wave levers with a free stroke screw installed are the exact same as xt minus the color and textured lever blades.

5/18/2026 7:10pm We already know his name as he's been making waves for some time already (which is crazy to say given that he's only 11 at present), but Weston Lukens aka " Wes_sends" is set to take the next step now as he has signed on with Neko Mulally's Frameworks program. They've developed a custom 24/26 mullet for him to ride, and by the looks of this reel, Wes is feeling at home on the new rig already. The future is bright...in fact, the future is now!

5/14/2026 7:05am I'd recommend the aluminum Sidekick Grappler DH wheels. The Sidekick hub is so sick for PK reduction and for the freecoasting speed. Those wheels come in way under $1000. Or you could build up a wheelset around the new an cheaper $250 Sidekick rear hub if you want to go the DIY route.

5/14/2026 7:05am I picked up a set of Reserve 30HD wheels for the DH bike when they were clearancing out the I9 1-1 hub sets. Ran all last park season on them. Dented the rear at Snowshoe so bad the paint flaked and its still true. I never touched a spoke the whole season. Never done that before. I highly recommend them...

5/14/2026 6:47am I have the Reserve HD DH wheelset on my V10. I am not an aggressive rider, but I am over 200lbs. The rims have put up with two years of riding at Snowshoe with barely a spoke tweak needed. I’m happy with them.

5/13/2026 6:59am Its a super-duper longshot, but I have watched this play out a few times now. All depends on a few (huge) things... 1) Who here sold a tech company/has generational wealth/a mega rich uncle/dad who runs a hedge fund and is bored? We'd need 7 figures to buy the thing out of receivership. 2) What is the price? If the price is right, it works. If its not, its all for nothing. 3) "Who's coming with me?" The timing is not in our favor, and I can't stress how important point number 1 is. Most people aren't interested in tying...

5/13/2026 6:29am Just fitted a DF hub to my Patrol. It's in the 10deg setting and it's made a noticable difference through some of the rough trails we have here (Canadian Rockies). My previous bike was a V1 Druid and whilst I didn't miss too many things from it when I moved to the Patrol I did notice the increased feedback at the pedals. I think the DF hub has certainly helped in that regard. I debated Sidekick but my LBS had this already in stock and I had DT wheels. I can see myself ordering a Sidekick for my better halfs...

5/11/2026 7:04am I just swapped in a pair of stupid-cheap new Code RSC's for an extraordinary well-used pair (to the point where I was having a hard time reviving one of the lever bearings, and replacing those things is a PITA - at least with the bearing tools I have). TIps from you and Jono seemed to make a difference on install. Eventual removal will tell the full tale. To the extent I was under-tightening the barb and barrel nut, I'm going to look at the positive. Been doing almost all of my own wrenching for a couple of decades, and I...

5/11/2026 7:01am The bite point is adjustable. The pushrod in the system advances or retreats the master cylinder piston, which decreases or increases lever throw to engagement. My main nit with the Doms is not with the brakes themselves, it's the bleed process they specify. That 'bar 45°, lever in neutral' allows an air pocket to remain the MC bore. Ideally before you set it in that position the MC should be rotated to 12 on the bar, similar to this EVD from the manual, to insure there's no air left in there.

5/5/2026 6:58am There may or may not be a new bike in development. I can neither confirm nor deny. But if you're in the SoCal area there's always a chance you'll see us on the trails riding or testing something we're working on or playing with. Development never stops with us!
