This pic was from last weekend, and more white stuff has since dropped (and is continuing to drop). Local riding season may very well be over, and that means time for suspension projects! There is a lot in the works, including another coil shock test and comparison. The Battle of the Bombers The Marzocchi Bomber CR (and previously the Fox Vanilla RC) has gained quite a following due to the solid architecture and ability to modify it to suit a wide spectrum of end users. It utilizes a light weight and compact chassis, has a large 27mm main piston, is...

Coil shocks for everything! Tallboy 4 w/ cascade link and 7.5' x 2.0' coil shock (stock is 190mm x 45mm). Rear travel is around 145mm, front is 150mm with a 64.5 degree HA. Very supple, yet still supportive and a blast to pump down the trail. With light wheels (as pictured), it rips the climbs and is a big mileage all day trail machine. Swap to heavier wheels and tires and it will handle any enduro course out there.

3 test sessions, 18 runs, 9 hours, 1 roasted rear tire, and a few more dings in the rim. The results are finally in with the Fluid Focus tuned Marzocchi Bomber CR coming out on top in every session. All three shocks were ridden extensively prior to the timed runs, including multiple bracketing sessions to get the settings in a good place. The bracketing sessions were done purely based on feel, no timing or other analytics. Avalanche Racing Bomber CR (tuned by Avalanche) This shock felt good right away. It has a magic carpet type ride where chatter and trail...

True that, Charlie. Look at all the ebikes in for service where only the 14 tooth cog has ever been used. People struggle with shifting. That was before motors double their output. Even in the eMTB space I don't see the derailleur and cassette drivetrain surviving the power wars. Our beloved and wickedly efficient bicycle drivetrains didn't evolve to put out 150 Nm and 1500 freaking watts. Constant watts. That's 2 HP for Joe and Jane Blow compared the 1/4 HP a reasonably fit human puts out. You're simply going to need thicker cogs hanging off that back wheel. But...

Ion pathfinder 320 or similar spec party speaker. I get 20-30 hrs use out of a full charge. If I’m driving long distance I can charge it up. Plenty loud for a large group and pretty reasonable at bedroom volumes. Rollable mattress pillow tops. I keep one and a sleeping bag in the truck always and will use several on longer trips. Very comfortable for the space and much quieter than an air mattress. dc camping acs. Run em off a scooter battery. Light enough to carry in a large backpack for tents and can double for a vehicle.

Rage is my first thought to check all the boxes. I like mine If I were buying today I'd probably get the new TR11. 148 rear spacing but the frameset is a killer deal that would more than justify a new fancy wheel if that's whats driving that requirement

Don't get me started on "matchy-matchy." I have been known to consume hours when putting stickers on my helmet, making sure they are straight and symmetrical with other logos. You know you have a real problem when you are aware that sometimes you have a to put a sticker on slightly crooked so it will appear straight. Back to the levers: How does anybody ride without their levers being exactly the same? I mean, that's probably what causes Hantavirus or something.

Aventon is cool in my book. Sponsoring Tippie and Angel and making a quality, reasonably priced ebike. Sounds better than one more super posh boutique brand making a product that costs five figures.

Frameworks does riding/training on a different brands e-bike, and races on their own frame. Aventon is doing the inverse to Frameworks 😁

Positives: Saves wear and tear on your pedal bike. DH parts are more durable and stronger, generally, since lightweighting is not a design goal. Saves your body. Makes you feel like a goddamn rockstar. Downsides: Needs a service before bike park season. Your other "big" bikes suddenly feel like they descend like shit after bike park season.

Y’all are acting like bike financing (which is what leasing is, btw) is some brand-new idea. It isn’t. The basic tools have been around forever. In its most archaic form, its not all that different from opening a store card at your favorite big-box retailer. What bikes still lack is a real underwriting structure where the lender can tie the loan to the asset itself. When I finance a $100,000 truck, the bank holds the title until I pay it off. If I stop making payments, they can repossess the truck, sell it at auction, and recover at least some...

Ongoing / unresolved "me problem": I like my brake levers' bite point to feel the same left/right. Of course, my left arm is weaker than my right due to being right handed, so the right lever always feels easier than left. I tend to progressively wind out my right brake levers' contact point, since that makes the bite point feel sharper. Over time, the measured bite distance discrepancy builds up - the other day I measured my right's to be a full 1cm further out than the left. Then my OCD for making things matchy-matchy kicks in, so I reset...

I always set up my levers for equal bite point instead of resting distance from bar. Sometimes my are very visibly different as pads wear. As long as they feel the same when I give em a squeeze I'm happy.

I would be curious to see how Shimano BL-M4100 levers fare in a Shaven setup. After spending too much time reading about Shigura setups this fall, I stumbled upon a German thread in which people were advocating for the cheaper, non-servowave levers for a more linear feel with good power. The more expensive non-servowave, XTR Race levers lack the power to really drive the calipers in a heavier-duty setup, but that's not an issue with these due to long levers producing high leverage. I now have a few days on a new Shigura setup (BL-M4100 + MT5 + Redline Likewater...
