3/24/2026 5:21am New brake combo in the works. TRP / Oak Lever / Maven base 18/18mm caliper. Shimano BH90 lines and maxima mineral oil. I previously tried the 19.5/18mm maven caliper with these same levers, and found the lever throw to be a little excessive. I'm hoping the 18/18mm caliper reduces that a bit. The TRP levers don't suffer the pump out effect experienced with maven/shimano levers. No swing link / servowave action, just heaps of mechanical leverage on a 9mm master cylinder.

3/19/2026 5:49am Yes, those calipers are the first generation of the mono block calipers that are now their flagship MTB brakes the Lewis AX. Matter of fact, they even make 6 piston brakes that are direct mount and 8 piston brakes that mount with adapters. I know from a guy that the 6 piston just didn't have the power so I believe...

3/13/2026 8:48pm I've been thinking about trying a set of these... https://www.lewisbike.com/lewis-eb-20-21-brakes.html I have a 57lb EMTB that I think they would be prefect to try them out on.

3/13/2026 7:41pm The rotors I received from Ali were NOT straight in any way. It probably took me 20 minutes to get both nice and straight.

3/13/2026 7:37pm Imagine two different people with the same size feet trying on the same pair of shoes. The first person tries on the shoes, and loves them. The second person puts the left shoe on their right foot, and the right shoe on their left foot, then goes and tells all their friends "these shoes are terrible." This is what it's like when people comment about brakes without doing some basic problem solving first. Do you have a good brake bleed? Were you using the correct kind of pads and rotor for your application? Were any of the braking surfaces contaminated...

3/12/2026 7:36am I have a large family (5 of us) and use either shimano or TRP brakes on all the bikes. I started using TRP rotors and the D20S pads on them all. I've noticed no downside to the TRP rotors on the Shimano brakes at all. I started using them because I would go through one RT66 rotor per set of...

3/12/2026 7:20am TRP R1s 2.3mm rotors are close to $50 CAD around here and are a killer option. Silent, rust treatment on the rotor spokes and a wear indicator.

3/12/2026 7:17am It really sounds like a bad bleed if you have to pull them to the grips for full power. The m6120s are one of the most underrated brakes out there in my opinion. I have a set of Formula Cura 4 on one bike where I had m6120 earlier, the Shimanos had more power for sure with the setup I use.

3/4/2026 6:20am I love my Santa Cruz Bullit ebike, but under California law, specialized is now making mopeds, not ebikes. I agree with Hans. It's disappoint to see Specialized disregard existing ebike laws and try to compete with DJI for the highest power boomer scooter. 750w is a reasonable limit for ebikes. Let's let ebike be ebikes, not mopeds or emotos.

3/3/2026 9:11am Yes. They have everything you need to bolt them to XT brakes except the bleed block. (and the SRAM caliper adapter if you’re using one)

3/3/2026 8:50am Welp, the Maven Bronze calipers were out of stock everywhere so I got some Silvers and tried it with the Shimano BH90 banjo bolt and it bolted up perfectly. (using XT levers) The SRAM blue banjo seals are huge and fit in the Shimano banjo fitting just fine. Comparing them to the tiny Shimano ones I'm wondering how the Shimano ones ever worked! I used SRAM mineral oil to eliminate factors that would cause issues. It's nice to know the SRAM mineral oil is higher viscosity than Shimano too. (only problem is the price, classic SRAM) Piston massage was a...

2/20/2026 7:03am I've never bled Mavens, but I did a bleed with 3 sets of TRP's using the Maxima fluid (its what I had and they said it was compatible). Had nothing but problems getting consistent lever feel (NEVER had that problem with TRP's before) and if the lever was pulled while vertical on bike rack or shuttle trailer they would pull...
