EXT just dropped the V2 ARIA air shock, as well as a new DH version: https://www.vitalmtb.com/news/press-release/ext-introduces-aria-v2-and-…. Our experience with the first generation was very positive, so if this is a further improvement, it should be very good indeed.

Huge recommendation for the manitou mattoc pro. I love mine. Haven’t tried the latest pike or 34SL but it is far superior to the previous generations of both those forks IMO.

I found the vivid to be harsh when dialing in compression, at least compared to an ohlins coil. I got the tune done with the wps piston kit, so definitely conflated. But for the price of the vivid with a wps piston kit or just for the price of the piston kit as a whole, my experience has been so positive that I see myself doing it for the next x2 i plan to purchase. edit: i don't like that charger dampers for how harsh they feel to me when turning up the compression, but the whole wps experience has...

Worth mentioning that Rockshox and Fox will both re-tune shocks for customers (for around $225 USD), and as a part of that service they help you identify the right tune for your bike. They won't always have a perfect answer, but a lot of the time they've already worked with the brand to sort out tunes for their bikes, so they often times they can tell you the tune that your bike's brand recommends. Was considering trying an air shock and the Rs super deluxe ultimate is tuned for my offering v4 by Evil and people seem to be mostly happy with it, but I guess I’m better off keeping my Push 11.6 gen 1

9/2/2026 11:37am I'm not that surprised the WPS does much better. Any aftermarket tune I have seen (Fluid Focus, M-ST, WPS) uses a mid valve with much larger rebound ports. But sure, shock tunes matter, too.

9/1/2026 1:30pm Forks frequently see shaft speeds of 4m/s and in general up to about 8m/s (see this video by Vorsprung). Rear shocks see quite a lot slower shaft speeds in general due to two reasons: Leverage ratio and often not being the first in line for the hit.

Cheaper ones (~10k USD) tend to go to shaft speeds of ~2.5m/s. If you want really high shaft speeds of about 7m/s, those things get expensive fast. Like ~80k USD expensive...

This has to be up there on the list of most polite way of saying that big suspension typically has to be tuned to work well regardless of how many dials you can play with. The base tunes are all over the place, one generation is almost slope style level firm, next gen of the same fork comes with basically no compression damping at all. Why? No one cares to explain, feel free to guess. Or maybe that's how it came to be? They are guessing?
