5/22/2026 8:46am Thought experiment: At what point does DJI offer a "WDGAF" upgrade kit? Hand throttle + software unlock for no speed limit and access to the full motor output. Yes, you'll burn the whole battery in 20-30 minutes, but if there is nothing legally stopping them, I'm struggling to see why they (or someone else) won't do something like this for "close course use". Maybe the pressure from places like this will be too much, but I know if I was 15 years old all over again I'd want it.

5/22/2026 8:36am I know there’s a difference because it’s harder to control with bikes, but why is it such a big deal here when people unlock their hardware? I can drive a car faster than the speed limit, too. It’s the driver’s responsibility to follow the rules. If they don’t, there are penalties—or they lose their insurance coverage. It’s true, though, that we as humanity are apparently generally unable to exercise restraint at the moment. I think it’s illusory to believe that anyone will regulate themselves. As a personal experience: I still think my Unno with M1 is great. I don’t need...

5/22/2026 8:34am I wish MTB media would refuse to review any non-Class 1 e-bike. That would rule out the current Levo and anything with an Avinox. Of course, the Utube Bros would then get all of the clicks as they would review all day in exchange for free use of Class 3 bikes. Avinox offers a UCC compliant motor now, and it's labeled and locked down. That should be the only DJI motor installed in an e-bike, imo.

5/22/2026 8:33am I made my last post when I was generally frustrated with life. Sorry about that. Most of you are probably still not going to agree with me, but I'll try again and then shut up. I think it's really, really important our community talks about whatever these two-wheeled machines with 800% assist and enormous torque/power actually are, and I don't want to stifle that occurring in this thread. I hope this thread gets a lot of traction and I learn something about why others feel so differently than me. Finally, apologies for waxing a bit philosophical. Honor, or whatever you...

5/22/2026 8:31am Cheers for making this thread. I think it’s going to get quite old man shouts at clouds, but there we go. I come at this from a slightly different angle, I’m an elected local councillor. As a result I’ve managed to have meetings with a few of the land owners and managers at my local. It’s a complicated picture, 3 public owners, a few private and 2 main land managers who have different goals and incentives. It’s an intensively used bit of land, 2 million people live within 30km of it in a very nature deprived part of a very...

5/22/2026 8:30am I want more of a mtb feel. Not interested in pedal throttle. At all. Did that last week in SantaCruz and felt like a douche (not that DJI people are, just how I felt)on a bike I was trying. I was going to buy a new Crestline but decided no, rather ride my Relay as long as it is working! Or until some real mtb company builds something similar but better.

5/22/2026 8:30am I'm really, really concerned about the level of power and assist and what it's ultimately going to mean for the trail system I founded (and still chair) specifically and trail access in general. I think the TQ50 is where ebikes should have started and stopped, but what Avinox is putting out is far beyond anything and totally irresponsible and unprincipled. F*ck them. I know some bike manufacturers may feel like they have to adopt Avinox or go out of business. That's a tough decision, but if you decide Avinox, then please please us any further pandering of any rider-owned, we-care-about-the-sport...

5/22/2026 8:21am Maybe it's just our reps have been spotty with Orbea but they can be a pain to work with, and people seem to leave the brand quickly. The bikes are totally fine from a design standpoint, but they have been some of the most obnoxious bikes to work on or deal with warranty issues with. Their headset routing is awful too, worse than Scott's by far haha

5/22/2026 8:10am I think this might be more of a US/Canada-centric view. The Specialized Turbo Levo line is over 10 years old. The Canyon Spectral:ON line is over 8 years old. Those are just two examples of model lineage/aging, but they were released to capitalise on an already-growing market. In Europe, eBikes are huge, and they totally dwarf mountain bike sales. This isn't a recent phenomenon - it's been the case for a while now. All the reports from shops are that they don't really sell many/any mountain bikes over the £/€3,000ish mark - once consumers get to that price point, they...

5/22/2026 8:05am If we didn't overreact on the internet, does the product even exist? It's our version of "if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" 🤣

5/22/2026 8:05am Of all the reviews I have seen online, nobody is complaining about the progression or bottoming out all the time. And if JKW didn't immediately fill it with volume spacers, then I think there is some overreaction here.

5/22/2026 8:03am You have to remember the true target market of this bike....if you really need that much extra resistance then a Tallboy is the wrong bike for you, full stop. The forum guys wanting to run a coil shock are a niche of a niche type of mountain biker so they aren't going to design the bike with that in mind. I also don't think its that far off, and they maybe chose to ship it with that shock spec so people can easily remove the spacers if that need to. And plenty of people have run coil shocks in bikes...

5/18/2026 9:19pm From what Evil have said (Jason Moeschler) it’s not a DH dedicated bike - there just isn’t the market for them, it’ll be the new Wreckoning but it’s not going to be out anytime soon… so he says.. he’s on instagram as evil.bikes.smooth.operator and answers questions every Friday in his stories. This bike was in it this week.
