6/11/2026 9:24am I would hate for all the TQ bikes to disappear, for whatever reason they are often to most compelling models to me. But I guess take this with a grain of salt, I have never ridden an ebike, and im also not in the market for one.

6/10/2026 10:47am Ive been pondering the e-bike vs regular bike debate a bit recently, and if that conflict is unique to North America only at this point? From what I gather, Europe has heavily embraced e-biking in all forms, to the point where is it somewhat the default choice for most people. Here in the US, the debate of e-bike vs regular...

6/8/2026 10:14am The "multiplier effect" is an economic fallacy. "Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."

6/8/2026 6:01am Note that Orson Scott Card (who wrote Ender's Game, about using child soldiers to fight aliens) turned out to be one of these neo fascists like the Dilbert guy. You can bet that the guys for that VC are all about deregulation...

6/1/2026 2:06pm "Speaking to the eBike riders I see on the trails here, they're all shifting to lower-priced bikes as they've realized that they can without sacrificing performance." This lines up with a hypothesis I've been thinking about for a while, which is that I think so much of the weirdness of the bike industry and bike customers (obsession with grams and weight, obsession over granular differences in tire feel and suspension tuning, and willingness to spend enormous amounts to customize and upgrade a stock bike) comes down to the weakness of the human motor and the human mind. We only generate...

5/11/2026 8:39am Honestly this is kinda funny to hear. I feel a kinship with other countries who's domestic automakers wield immense political power, and use it to exclusively enrich themselves at the cost of the common citizen.

4/29/2026 6:22am For those of us living in the land of freedumb who bought bikes or components with inflated pricing, when do we expect refund checks once the brands receive their checks from the treasury? /s (maybe those tariffs stand, it’s all very confusing)

4/29/2026 6:22am Yes, the vibe at Sea Otter was way, way more upbeat than the last three. Why? Marketing folks had new stuff to talk about, salespeople had the latest hype to sell (at full price), and product managers/engineers had new projects in the works. And all of these people still had jobs after years of downsizing, right-sizing, streamlining, strategic leveraging, and synergizing. So, yeah, people felt relief, the weather was good, and (for better or worse) everyone has become desensitized to global turmoil, macroeconomic uncertainty, and the daily onslaught of ridiculous political news. Mind you, that was not intended to be...

4/27/2026 6:44pm Do we need a new thread, or just to move this to the already started e-bike thread? Back on topic though, @jeff.brines, any sense of general optimism at Sea Otter that you picked up on? The vibe I got from pinkbikes most recent podcast is that everyone was in general feeling less doom and gloom on the business side of...

4/27/2026 6:40pm There are already those issues with the wired in version of AXS and Di2 derailleurs on ebikes, it's actually obnoxious to work on them because of it. An interesting rhetorical question about CVTs and MGUs coming into this space is when do these "bicycles" stop being "bicycles"? Automatic shifting and the removal of manual control seem to me like the point where bicycles are no longer bicycles. We as a community and as an industry should probably draw those lines before we get too much further from where we are now. I'll stop my pseudo-philosophical ramblings here

4/21/2026 6:46am You think if internal combustion motors were a new invention now they would be built to be disposable? Why are electronics so disposable, but things like IC motors are not? I have to imagine the material and engineering cost is far lower on electronic motors compared to IC motors right? I still don't know where I stand on e-bikes fully...

4/14/2026 12:56pm Bosch is a genuine giant, comparable in scale to Caterpillar or Goldman Sachs. DJI, by contrast, is roughly 10-15% of Bosch's size on a revenue basis. The real difference, however, is breadth. DJI is narrowly focused to a degree that's hard to fully appreciate until you start poking around at what Bosch actually does: automotive systems, power tools, home appliances, factory automation, HVAC, security systems. It's a company that has to be everything to everyone, all at once. Profitability compounds the contrast. DJI reportedly operates around 40% net margins, which if accurate is a truly remarkable number for any company...

4/14/2026 12:56pm Yeah, there is a big focus on the motor tech for obvious reasons, but battery tech is where the real future is, and china and its firms are all in on batteries. It's where you will get the greater range and lighter weight that the ebike market wants. On a more macro scale, battery tech (energy storage) has quietly changed...

4/13/2026 2:02pm That the $5k Amflow might just nuke the e-bike market, I imagine I will be seeing those bikes everywhere by the end of this year. Crazy what state sponsored capitalism can produce. Private industry is only good if you're a dork trying to become a billionaire, if you want to do real numbers you need that central bank money.

4/13/2026 1:33pm This is cool, the part that pushes on the tire looks very similar to a machine that puts on car tires. Honestly sick idea.

4/10/2026 7:08am Having ridden the Ikon quite a bit recently, I think he was onto something! Obviously an actual steep trail would overwhelm the braking traction pretty quickly, but this tire is impressive in the dry.

4/6/2026 6:39am Ive been running Forekaster/Ikon on the XC trails here, and I think its a really solid combo. Honestly surprised how much I can trust the Forekaster. The ikon also has a lot more braking grip than I thought it would, makes me think I could scale down to an aspen or rekon race in the rear and still be good.
