Friday Added a reply to Specialized Chisel/Epic Coil?
3/10/2026 1:06pm I would maybe just start with a retune, I know the Evo shock tunes are firm by design. I have a chisel too, and its anything but settled on high frequency roots and rocks. To me this is a trade off for really great pedaling performance, less great small bump sensitivity.

3/4/2026 5:13pm It wasn't that long ago that "15 minute cities" was the latest far right snarl word/term. It didn't hit as hard in Australia but it still comes up from time to time. I work in transport planning and the hysteria around it completely baffled me. How can anyone possibly delude themselves into believing that the idea of city planning based around safety and accessibility for all transport modes and users is some kind of grand (communist?) conspiracy? A bloke I worked with on a few projects once raised Elon Musk's ire on Twitter by calling out his nonsense. It was...

3/4/2026 5:13pm Auto makers and oil companies lobbied hard to turn streets into a place that's largely unsafe unless you're on four wheels. Bike companies weren't anywhere near organized enough to fight off that kind of effort.

3/3/2026 1:24pm The worst part about all of this to me is that the DOT would need to spend like what 5% of what it spends on US road maintenance and construction projects to basically fix the main issue with bike commuting (lack of safe/protected bike paths)? And said paths would require like a tiny fraction of what road maintenance cost due...

3/2/2026 10:38am Speaking for the US only, cycling infrastructure is terrible across the country with only a few bright spots. I have commuted by bike for twenty years and have had so many near death experiences. Public transit in the US is also woefully underfunded and underdeveloped. That’s by design since the US political system has been corrupted by petroleum/auto money for nearly a century. (also add in distance and weather realities) And I could go on…

2/27/2026 1:48pm "We have been shoveling money into US Customs and Border Protection faster than we can make it. It's literally our entire operating margin," Evil's Moeschler noted. "We've had some short-term methods to offset the cash that we're shovelling into the government. But that wasn't a long-term plan. That was just, 'here's what we can do for a little bit' –...

2/24/2026 10:57am Good on RAAW for trying to be pro-active on that shit timing, but jesus what a nightmare. I chose a great year to focus on savings instead of hobby spending, I hope there are products to buy on the other side of this (joking...kinda).
Friday Added a reply to What are people's favorite true trail bikes in 2026?
2/19/2026 7:45am I have a prime, and its kinda a funny one. It's knocking on the door of all mountain, but it does pedal quite well. I feel like the next gen Phantom is going to be a very nice bike. Can't wait to see the Gen 4 Banshees!

Friday Added a reply to Grassroots Enduro... Where Should It Go?
2/6/2026 6:12am I'm curious about enduro racing, but being in the deep southeast the only organization consistently putting on races is the corniest fucking thing around. I kinda want nothing to do with them.

11/7/2025 7:03am I would get excited for a new short travel Banshee with nice external routing. Banshee IMO have the geo I like very dialed. When my biggest complaints of your frames you released in 2019/2020 is that the seat post insertion needs to be like 25mm more, and external routeing options would be nice, I think you have done a very...

11/4/2025 3:16pm Switched up my light trail bike to Forekaster 2.4 Maxterra front and Ikon 2.2 maxxspeed rear. Honestly blow away how much grip this setup has, both braking and cornering. The local trails are all mild cross country loops, but still these tires kinda rip.

10/24/2025 10:57am Fuck this man. I can't really articulate why I feel this way about this event in particular given that a lot of my favorite sports are quite dangerous, but something about Rampage just makes this worse.

9/26/2025 10:03am Im excited for the new Dissector. Unless things are really gnarly, I see no reason for a bigger front time on my all moutain bike. Currently running DHF/DHR2 combo and its so slow and draggy while climbing. Dissector/Recon or Dissector/Forekaster seem like the move on that bike.

9/4/2025 12:16pm Thats true, which is ultimately why I went with the Chisel. It responds so well on the pedals, which is really what I need for the local stuff. I also wanted something that rode in stark contrast to my Prime, which it for sure does.

9/4/2025 4:54am I was strongly considering a Banshee Phantom because I have a Prime and love the overall geo, but those frames are on the heavy side due to the very strong shock cradle design. I wanted a build under 30, which might be possible with the Phantom, but would require a very expensive build. I went with a Chisel FS instead...

9/3/2025 12:47pm I would love something that weighs (SP?) right at or just under 30lbs, pedals well, but still has the planted geo of my bigger bike. Obliviously the 36 lb bike is always going to feel more sure footed than a bike under 30 lbs, but I would dig it for my local flat stuff.
Friday Added a reply to Mini Van set ups
8/15/2025 7:23am Yeah its been a good setup. Since you can't stand in it its mostly built to serve the purpose of gear storage (camping, cooking, clothing, bike related) and sleeping. Whenever we setup camp we basically spend all of our time outside of the vehicle cooking and hanging out, and being inside is kinda just for going to bed. Helps to...

8/14/2025 11:59am I have an a 2012 LWB Chevy express van, its been a good budget camper/mtb van, but the mileage does suck. Had to get the transmission rebuilt at like 190K, but im steadily driving into the 200's now. Hopefully it last me another 5 years. I got it to do a big 8 week trip in, and have since done...
Friday Added a reply to Modern Geo Talk: Chainstays, Stack, Reach, and Bitching About It
6/5/2025 6:05am I just want to say, I have never been able "whip around" my bike better than when I put on the longer 460 chainstays. Turns out, when you increase front end grip, you can then drift the rear end in an extremely controlled fashion. My bike turns tighter than it did before, and I think it all has to do...
