12/10/2025 8:52am Following a single thread was very convenient. Probably why this thread was so successful. Can we just start a single new thread - tech rumors 2025 or whatever?

12/10/2025 8:51am @sspomer I will join the other users who are disappointed with the closure of this thread. I get it from the logistical side of things, but not pinning a V2 seems like a miss, as many others are also arguing. It is significantly easier and more interesting to follow a single, banter-filled forum with an integrated community rather than dozens of much smaller forums that are in a constant cycle of dying out. This unique style of forum was the breeding ground of countless discussions and inside jokes, which I doubt would have taken place in a universe where it...

12/10/2025 8:50am Don't worry everyone: I already had a meeting planned with @sspomer this afternoon, so I'll be sure to tell him on all of your behalf what a terrible person he is and how we're not mad, just disappointed.

12/10/2025 8:50am @sspomer I totally get your decision from a web resourcing point of view. Things get really expensive really quick when you need to tack on more power. A lot of cloud hosting providers price exponentially instead of linearly. That being said, I think not pinning a v2 and keeping this way of chatting about rumors is a mistake. This thread works because it allows for banter along side rumors I wouldn't ever care about. Prime example is the Santa Cruz Vala, a bike I have negative interest in. However that did prompt the carcinization of bike suspension discussion (that prompted...

12/10/2025 8:49am As someone who just doesn’t have the time to scroll through the front page of the Hub for new and interesting posts/threads all the time, I can’t say I’m overly excited about this decision. I really liked having the most interesting topic all neatly packed up into one single thread, which I could follow and catch up with the discussion every once in a while. Won’t be as easy and convenient for me to follow under the new format.

12/10/2025 8:49am So after six years of Sspomer and other users redirecting non-tech rumour talk to individual threads (brake discussion, chain stay circlejerk, etc), Sspomer has now redirect ALL talk to individual threads. Damn.

12/10/2025 8:48am On one of the Pink Bike podcasts not to long ago, Kaz and crew laughed at the tribalism between the users of both sites.. I'm willing to bet that a majority of us are on both sites.. A little different vibe between the two, but at the end of the day, it's just more mountain bike stuff for me to read and potentially some bike related discussions to participate in..

12/10/2025 8:47am Here's another 2 cents. I love Vital (and its forums) and I love Pinkbike (and its comments). I've followed both for as long as I can remember. I started mountain biking when I was 12 in the year 2000. I've been around. Both sites are great. Both offer different resources. Both serve the sport we love. But I don't understand why so many Vital readers hate Pinkbike. Like, really really dislike a site that has been so important in building a positive image for mountain biking. I've seen more anti-Pinkbike/anti-that-other-site/anti-rhymes with StinkBike comments on Vital than I can remember. Conversely...

12/10/2025 8:47am Throwing in my 2 cents... This thread (and site overall) is an exponentially better resource than any of the others who will remain nameless but rhyme with StinkBike and EnemaTBR. I equate that to the people who visit and the structure of the site. If it ain't broke....

12/10/2025 8:46am Yes, I think annual threads is the format I would also prefer. As others have pointed out, this thread specifically thrives on a healthy mix of actual tech rumors and lighthearted banter / memes. But for that, the conversation needs some sort of continuity. To get that continuity, but also not eat up too many resources on the Vital servers, I think yearly servers would be the best solution.

12/10/2025 8:45am Yup, this thread is what brought me to Vital. So far I've just enjoyed reading, but with the impending closure, I decided it was worth making an account to cast my vote for annual versions of the tech-rumors thread.

12/10/2025 8:45am Can I be honest, if I can't just click on one thread and read the entire conversation, I probably won't read the forum at all. I find this thread pulls me in and then when I have more time or I'm curious, I check out other threads. But without this main one, I wouldn't bother visiting vital. Wish it were different but I hope I'm at least helping by giving voice to some other people out there. I enjoy catching up on 6 pages of inane comments to find a nugget of cool rumors. Others might be different.

11/12/2025 9:00am Greeting people with "what's up assholes?" in videos is not poor attitudes. Leave Unc alone, he's honest and he works hard to spread the good word of long rear centres.
