The ziptie the lever overnight trick works because of increased pressure (not vacuum). The pressure squeezes any air bubbles which allows them (being smaller) to more easily rise up past fluid in the hose. Conversely, bleeding with a vaccum may actually make the bubbles less likely to rise. Flicking the levers does something similar - shrinking the bubbles momentarily which can help them to detatch from the hose wall (and start moving or pass into the reservoir). IME the weakest link when trying to vacuum bleed a brake is where the barb on a bleed fitting goes into the clear...

Did I miss the press release on the new Ibis Oso? Reach numbers seem completely nuts, but I guess it's a touch less ugly and offers decent value. Oso - Ibis Cycles Inc.

This is the most mountain bike industry product ever. We are adding a tiny servo on the bottom of the dropper that limits insertion and also you have to charge it and pay $300 for it? For what to get ride of 2 feet of cable? Will the remote and electronics in the post be reliable? Maybe, will they be as reliable as a $2 shifter cable? No.

The guys at Onlymotion are close to selling their wireless electronics kit. Pretty amazing that they have managed to pack all this into such a small volume. Also, I truly appreciate that you can charge it without removing the dropper, in contrast to certain mtbr comments. As long as you utilize this conversion kit with any of your mechanical droppers that fit it, you just need to put the included USB-C into the frame once. 10min for 2000 actuations and no proprietary charger sounds good to me. Might be difficult to fit the right insertion on some frames with the...

Supposedly a company called https://ogbikeworks.com/ is developing one; they claim they were working with Bike Yoke on theirs before it got delayed/cancelled: Big ol' caveats, 1. It's MTBR: 2. If you read through subsequent posts it sounds like Bikeworks may be a little flaky, so grain of salt and all that 3. Their site isn't very confidence inspiring "Exciting News from OG Bikeworks! We are OG Bikeworks, creators of the actuator technology. Due to unresolved contractual matters, we are no longer collaborating with BikeYoke. However, we’re thrilled to announce the upcoming release of an aftermarket wireless dropper kit! Our kit...

I actually messaged archer with this idea years ago and they said it was already in the works. Guessing they were bs’ing or funds dried up before it could become a reality. Someone jump on this idea!

Looks like they removed their phone number from the site as well. Had a hell of a time pulling the linkage apart on one of their bikes a couple years ago and called them up and they were super helpful. My guess is that they are done…

From my perspective, the key theme emerging in this thread over the past few days is just how significant of a headwind the plateauing of performance has become for the broader industry. I’ve been hammering this point for a while, but it’s worth reiterating: there’s nothing inherent in bicycle engineering that guarantees the new model will be meaningfully better than the old one. Marketers do what they do best—convincing us that every new bike is a game-changer. Cognitive bias is powerful, and for years, we’ve all been conditioned to believe in the necessity of frequent upgrades (and I'd argue this...

in Brian Cahal's YouTube video, they take a 2016 Bronson vs 2024 Bronson on 2 tracks and their times are pretty much identical. Has to say something. With e-bikes, the tech is changing so fast so I think a lot of potential buyers/upgraders are staying on the sidelines for a bit.

Yeah this might come as a shock to people but I don't think many brands are making excessive margins just because they can....after being in business a few years now I realise how quickly what looks like a healthy margin can get eaten up by overheads or a slightly below average monthly turnover. Covid showed that business which appear to be healthy still feel the squeeze once trading effectively stops! Each brand has different pricing strategies but very few work in the same way as the high volume retailers in other industries, where they can routinely offer massive discounts. There...

I can't believe we don't have an online conversion kit for reg posts using a servo that pulls the cable at the bottom of the post from anyone. Archer would have set the world on fire with that instead of half mechanical shifting.

It looks just as terrible as the Fox Version, Why do we need such a big 'wart' Looking thing halfway up the seat tube..... I want a wireless dropper but i dont want either of those 2 ugly things, especially because i want 240mm drop and the ability to slam the post.... Im happy to pay those prices when a brand can actually design one that doesnt look terrible.

Would be curious to hear from someone with a business or marketing background as to what a company is expecting us to pay when they decide on an MSRP. Coming out of Covid, has the mindset changed so that people simply won't buy anything at MSRP, so companies now set MSPR never really expecting the majority of units to be sold at MSRP? Put differently, has the bike industry turned into one gigantic Men's Warehouse? If so, how does it come back from that?
