I'd like to point out the most blinding oblivious part of all of this. Prize money for "World Cup" riders is still non-existent. Race organizers(even SMX & all the money it supposedly laid out for racers to win) still pays the riders crap after top 3. Ellie riders skipped SMX because they couldn't make their money back even if they got top 10. Anyone in big ticket item sales will tell you that "Feast or Famine" pay scales leave even the people hitting the peak of the pay scale get paid crap when you average out your wins & losses...

The fact that ESO doesn't know the details at this point in time, well after budget decisions needed to be made by teams and sponsors is the problem. The fact that ESO doesn't know is not an answer. It is unacceptable.

Some privateers I follow in social media are pretty pissed about Brunis opinion and I have to agree, most of us dont have the resources to be like him but dont really care as we do it simply for the love of this sport, as do the privateers. Ofc they want to win and succeed but I'm fairly certain they will continue riding bikes even if they dont make it big.

Judging by some slo-mo I just saw….. his fork either bottomed out - or had a catastrophic failure.

MSA had one of the highest number plates on the podium that I can remember! Really speaks to the depth of the field, and the magic of DH where if it clicks on the right day for the right rider you can get an amazing result

I saw/read somewhere that Gee's drop was really close (horizontally) and the takeoff curved down over the cliff edge to point down at the landing and he hit it too fast and landed too deep on the landing. Found it: https://youtu.be/YkCuW4wsaaI?t=169

Don’t worry! Lots of vital experts will be along to tell you that the people in the pits have had the full schedule/calendar for weeks now and how you’re ignorant and just an alarmist ESO hater.

Unsure if it was a mechanical but tmac usually makes his big drops step downs because otherwise you lose all forward momentum and are just dropping straight down. Gee basically hits the landing and gets kicked forward from all that gravitational momentum. Hope his injuries are nothing too major.

Great podcast to get everyone's opinion on how this year went! It's funny to me to hear how political some of the riders are and how media trained some of them are on what they can and can't say. I know you'll never get a true honest opinion from them because of potential sponsor backlashing but this podcast came pretty darn close I think. How about this as some proposed changes to the schedule: -Run qualifiers on Friday and take the top 40 men/25 women into the final on Sunday -Change the current Saturday semifinal race into a Last Chance...

Did anyone figure out what happened, other than the obvious of being an insanely huge drop? It almost sounded like his rear wheel exploded.

Almost all large company budgets for 2024 are set by this time of year. Some company's fiscal calendars start in June ESO not having a finalized and released 2024 calendar is ridiculous. It screws over the existing sponsors and teams while also signaling to potential sponsors the they will get screwed just as hard by ESO.

Loic came off as spoiled, entitled, and afraid of the crop of new riders starting to hit WC races. He sounds like he wants to limit the talent pool because it makes it easier for him to stay on top. He already got beat by 2 first year elite riders and multiple riders with number plates greater than 30. He...

While I see your point of view, wasn’t RedBull getting everything paid? The sport grew during their tenure, the coverage was arguably great by comparison, and it was free for the fans. Neither of us know how or where the money went, but it seems to me the UCI just wants to expand their portfolios by making us pay. I still need to listen to the podcast. Does it explain? I’d really love to see the viewership and financial numbers comparison of this year vs. last year…

Good luck if you think Discovery charging means they'll pass that on to the riders or put it towards helping venues with the cost of hosting extra rounds.

ESO doubled team fees and stuck finals behind a paid subscription (cable or app) and it appears that ZERO of that money made it's way to riders, teams, or organizers other than ESO. Restricting the viewership of a niche sport will only make it less visible and therefore less valuable to sponsors. IIRC (I think it was a German MTB mag article) the viewership/retention numbers on Eurosport were bad. So being on TV in Europe is not creating new fans. ESO stated they want to bring in outside sponsorship, but their actions so far make that less likely than it...

Racing was excellent, but that was inspite of ESO's fuckery. Commentary was atrocious to the point of detracting from the racing. Coverage was worse. There MIGHT have been more complete coverage of race runs, IF you don't mind the shakey, low resolution, drone footage, that often cut out large parts of the rider / bike, and you don't count all the times coverage cut away from a run to show a team Manager.

Listening to Bruni's comments this year I've found him very self centred and selective in his opinions. He's talked about the disadvantage of starting last and having to ride a deteriorated track, whilst ignoring how it can sometimes be an advantage (he arguably had better conditions than riders who went earlier at both Loudenvielle and MSA ). Saying Jackson has an advantage because of his weight and being less prone to flats, even though he flatted the previous round and Bruni didn't (I may be wrong, but I don't remember Bruni flatting in a finals run all season). Being heavier...

alright, let's open the can. tommy crail making a point of how "mountain biking" at rampage is too buffed out and groomed, hitting some huge stuff on his bmx bike in the reel below. seems like majority of vital members say they want more raw, rowdy lines but judging never rewards those kinds of lines, so for days on end, build crews slap-pack miles of benchcut lines across the zone. 2028, BMX rampage?
