7/4/2023 12:30pm It was the net, not the tape. You can see he's well BELOW the tape (and upside down) here, then his bike fell against the tape and pushed it down towards him, but it was still against his back/above him.

7/4/2023 7:41am I thought he got wrapped up in the greenish/ yellow course tape. I think this has happened already at one of the previous races. If he was wrapped up in the netting, that's very different. That netting is hard to get out of in skiing. Getting tangled usually isn't a safety issue and it should be used in places where...

7/3/2023 5:23pm Spectator's race summary from Val di Sole: Good - Insane race, and the venue was electric from Brosnan's run till the afterparty died sometime around 4am. - Course-taping was great to keep the track safer and more interesting. VDS is an A+ venue to watch lines most of us can only dream about (ex tripling into a steep braking zone), so many interesting sections to check out and see how the riders could make the most awkward looking section fast as F$#%. Can't believe some of the hits that people's wheels survived. 10/10 recommend going if you're within 6hrs drive...

7/1/2023 7:15am I know it's not new, but God the commentary is horrible. Ric is the lesser of the two evils and has some potential, his voiceover for the last round of Enduro summary was pretty good. Someone really needs to tell Cedric to shut up unless he has something insightful to say. He constantly talks over Ric and ruins what should...

6/28/2023 12:13pm A couple of things that have come up for me regarding courses and rider safety. I'm always saddened to see a rider injured. When it's someone as fast and high profile as Amaury Pierron the situation brings a lot of attention from fans, although this stuff probably happens more than many of us realize. AMBA just signed our contract with US Forest Service for a series of DH trails here, so some of this stuff is at the front of my mind. USFS separates "hazards" from "risk". That pile of logs and branches just off the trail is a good...

6/27/2023 4:14pm I see both sides of the safety issue, it indeed is a sport based on risk... My day job is commercial construction management, safety is a huge part of the job. Safety is like anything, it can easily go too far... I for one, watch the streams and am sometimes mortified by a few conditions that seem needlessly unsafe. Most of it is small stuff like having provisions for if/when a rider were to ride off the side of a huge wooden drop/ramp. To not have the area just off course at least evaluated and had a once over, is...

6/27/2023 2:05pm First, all the best to Amaury in his recovery. Such bad luck lately, but I am sure he will be back when everything is healed and still will be riding bikes better than anyone else. I agree to some extent that the courses should be as safe as possible, but honestly there is so little that can be done. DH racing is a very dangerous sport, and WC riders take the biggest risks. Someone goes flying out of control head first almost at every race weekend, and as @bizutch said we can't expect every rock or stump gets padded. It...

7/21/2023 7:21am Here is the thing. You are half right. The responsibility for staying upright and putting together a safe run always falls on the rider. But, there is a level of risk mitigation that the organizer need to do. Motorsports of all kinds have track runoffs designed to minimize risk if a racer goes off track. There are inherent risks to...

6/27/2023 11:16am This is one of those things that is turning me against Discovery ESO. They talked about increasing safety but also mislead people by claiming that increasing to 2 race runs would not increase injuries. That's patently false to anyone with a C level understanding of statistics. Double the runs = double the risk, and that ignores rider fatigue as a...

6/24/2023 3:58pm I've been happy with the Tru tune insert in my 150mm Fox 36. It reduces ramp up and what ramp up is there is less quick and harsh.

6/13/2023 4:22am I still think there are way too many points for semi’s. I don’t like the fact you can win the race, but if you didn’t have a great semi you might not come out with the most points in the strongest position. It’s more like a 2 stage mini enduro than a one run for all the glory race like it should be. I love the fact there is more to watch as I just like watching racing, but it all being in one day caused me problems, I can’t commit that many hours (family) in one go and as...

6/13/2023 4:21am As someone mentioned, this format seems ok at best on a short track like we had, but when we get to longer tracks like fort Bill, or worse weather, or gnarlier tracks, things could get out of hand really quick. With any luck, there will be adjustments made throughout the season if needed and we wont see too many injuries. I tend to remember lots of injuries at the first race, but I can't tell if that's because there's more or I just remember them better...

6/12/2023 5:13pm Alarm bells went off in my head when Chris Ball stated that since most injuries happen in practice, adding another race run wouldn't increase the amount of injuries. As Mark Twain said "there are 3 kinds of lies; lies, damn lies, and statistics". While I believe it is true that there are more injuries during practice, there are exponentially more...

6/12/2023 9:54am Because Discovery wants to cut to only 30 for television. I'm willing to bet that next year they will cut the semi and go straight from quails to finals with only 30 men's racers. They wanted to do it this year but got too much push back. Next year they will say that they heard the negative feedback on semifinals...

6/12/2023 9:49am "I’ll probably only watch finals live and watch semis sometime I can’t sleep at night. I think more racing will make for a dramatic overall and more opportunities for people to shine." This part is contradictory & you're basically saying semi-finals is too boring to bother with in anything other than "highlight" format. Rather watch ALL 60 come down from beginning to end in a single rip with tension slowly building rider by rider to the fastest qualifier. In the past, the #1 complaint was we would miss Bruni or Gwin or Amaury or Danny have some blistering morning run...

6/11/2023 7:25am I'll balance out the reviews, their saddle is by far the worst saddle I've ever ridden. Set level I was constantly sliding off the front and therefore putting pressure in the areas it's intended to relieve. Angled up enough to keep from sliding forward and the front puts pressure in the wrong spots. In addition is seems like the saddle...

notthatbryan Added a comment about feature Fresh, Fast, and Fun: New Propain Tyee
4/25/2023 9:07am The Lower headset bearing in my Propain Hugene self destructed after a little more than a month. The whole bearing assembly came apart. I pulled the fork and the lower race came out with it, the bearings and upper race stayed in the frame. Propain USA sent out a replacement headset, so their customer service was good. I'm cautious about the ACROS headset the cables route through on this bike. It would be a much bigger issue on this new Tyee because of the headset hose routing.
