40% GM on any physical goods should be a minimum at each stage of the value chain in any sector. Below that, there's then not enough margin to cover taxes, overheads, build in marketing budget respective of the stage in the journey so the whole ecosystem becomes precarious. Hats of to Silca for showing the numbers and really contextualising it.

Silca is not releasing it;s newest product (mini-inflator) in the US due to tariffs: https://escapecollective.com/silca-elettrico-pumps/ Lots of good insight, and I thought this breakdown was really helpful "Ideal world: COGS: $42 Shipping: ~$2 Import Duties/Paperwork fees ~13%: $5.46 'Landed COGS': $49.46 Price to bike shop: $90/ Silca Gross Profit: $40.54 / 45% Retail: $149 / Bike Shop Gross Profit: $59 / 40% With Trump 45 Tariff on Chinese-made goods (2018): COGS: $42 Shipping: ~$2 Import Duties/Paperwork fees ~13%: $5.46 25% Trump 45 Tariff: $10.50 'Landed COGS': $59.96 Price to bike shop: $98/ Silca Gross Profit: $40.05 / 38.8% (42-45% is...

this press release i just received seemed pretty tech but maybe it belongs in the geometry thread. i'll start here... I am reaching out to you because I believe your audience would be interested in our company's launch in early May and the two new products we're launching with, the Cardio Speeder and the Super-E. These are the first-ever "procumbent flying position" electric bikes on the market. The procumbent flying position, a new riding position invented by Martoni CEO, Marty Williams, is a posture that combines ergonomic riding with speed. On a procumbent bike, there is no saddle; riders step...

Yep, solved if I'm understanding you correctly. Hall-lock mod so the b-pivot can't rotate. File the X01 b-bushing down slightly, a little bit at a time (test, file, test, file) until the derailleur can't rotate at the bolt. If you've got a GX there's no bushing to modify, it's a crappy steel-on-aluminum design that suffers from premature wearification. The X01 b-bolt with bushing is around $30 USD and works perfectly on the GX so get that and do the mod. Your rear wheel will be slightly harder to remove as the derailleur doesn't pivot out of the way. But it's...

I wonder if tacking the tariff price on that way might help make it clear to customers exactly how much the tariffs are costing them? (Whereas with a "resort fee" or similar charge I usually interpret that as the seller playing games w/ pricing...)

Considering the market opened down 6% I feel its probably a good idea for me to release this little app. Its a good place to watch how the publicly traded companies in the bike, outdoor, powersports or "outdoor adjacent" space are performing through this shit show. Few thoughts... URL: www.otherhours.com -The name isn't great. I just had that domain so I used it. -All quotes are delayed; I am using the Yahoo Finance dataset which isn't great (but is free). I'm also using FRED for the CPI/yield stuff. I would not rely on this to trade or anything, but it...

Hi y'all, Longtime reader, though I rarely post. Some context I run a small non-bike company in Sheridan, WY. We make a ton in house, import a little, and outsource a bunch to other companies in the US. We do about 40% of our sales in Canada. These tariffs will put the brakes on the entire economy. My business is well positioned to make 100% of our product in the US, which would seemingly be a boon for us. But who is going to be able to buy it? Will our customers in Canada want to buy our products at...

i envision a future usa where the bikers ride on old stock, several times repaired carbon frames, like they do with their oldtimer cars in cuba, lol. there will be a huuuuuuge repair industry, making old stuff workable again, just to safe on these tariffs.

This goes without saying, but I do not like what this administration is doing with tariffs. I won’t repeat in detail what many of you have already nailed but to summarize: these policies are destabilizing, costly, inflationary, and may very well lead to higher interest rates (all very bad for a very global bike industry). And for what? I’ve yet to see a compelling argument, even a theoretical, about the long-term upside. For fun, I'll give you my "best case" scenario, but this isn't so much what I think will happen, just what could hapen. Oh, and in case nobody...

Glad I stocked up on bikes and parts for cheap in the past couple years. Truck Fonald Dump and the idiotic sycophants who still support him. This is beyond stupid and if you don't realize that by now, you never will, even as you're struggling to feed your own children.

From THE CHART haha, I think bike companies are the least of your concern at this point. Every computer product just got 32% more expensive. You guys are all fucked. Good luck!

Madrone? The company that offers tools and individual parts unavailable anywhere else to repair/rebuild SRAM derailleurs? And then developed their own derailleur that is functionally and aesthetically distinct from SRAM's product's? That's a really weak comparison.

Correct, basically just reposting an ad by a Chinese company, with no 3rd party assessment. Maybe it’s a great product, but I thought vital was more of a review site, rather than an advertising platform. Simple things like there are no 14 speed cassettes yet, and no real way to set the indexing between sram and shimano standards (although very small) and the obvious name of “GX” coincidentally the same letters SRAM uses for their lower end wireless drivetrain, make seem like another low effort Chinese product with a lot more refining to be done before brought to market.
