11/12/2024 8:52am https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/equipment/cycling-components/bike-ti… this is a perfect example. What the hell do all these new acronyms mean? How do they compare to the known quantities on the market?

11/3/2024 11:47am The bike industry is full of things that scream poor design and manufacturing. It's far from a SRAM specific problem.

11/3/2024 11:47am The fact SRAM state you have to complete these extra steps just to achieve a brake that works for their top of the line product (which no other manufacturer does) just screams poor design and manufacturing.

11/1/2024 9:01pm Dylan's biggest problem has always been (himself) not having someone to guide his marketing/promotion. And riding for friendly local brands that honestly had some of the worst reputations in the industry. And this is not a dude who could afford to ride basic run of the mill cheap parts built for the masses. Even in the BMX industry. If anything his time on The Take and with potential for FBM support was better. The fact that he couldn't get a foot in the door at S&M/Fit is a criminal shame because a brand that makes frames for Hoder and Dugan...

11/1/2024 8:49pm Exactly right. Popping the piston out during the piston massage basically proves they're not paying attention to the correct setup procedure and invalidates their review. 1/6 working correctly is an insane stat and would be costing SRAM millions if this was playing out across all customers. Clearly it isn't, which unfortunately points the finger back at the guys reviewing them.

11/1/2024 8:41pm deviate ebike update from their newsletter ------------------- The Deviate E-Bike Update Now I am under strict instructions that I cannot give away too much! Anyone that knows me will know that I’ve always loved an ebike. I love an ebike as much as I love an uplift… and having spent 10 years guiding in the Alps - I really do love an uplift. I was once riding in the South of France and the Frenchman sitting next to me in the UPLIFT van commented on the ebikes PEDALLING uphill that we were overtaking, “lazy bastards” he said, “I hate ebikes”...

10/28/2024 8:13am Are these "worn out in less than 200 miles" XTR cassettes in the room with us right now? They can creak, especially he earliest ones, but I've put thousands of miles on these and don't find they wear differently than any other cassette.

10/26/2024 9:00am I didn’t know what you were trying to show in the photos until I scrolled further down and you said 4, but even that is designed differently. The bottom and right ends are square on the Lewis and the cut throughs are in different locations.

10/24/2024 12:06pm I was speaking with some guys in the sram tent at a crankworx event shortly after transmission was released and they said that it was a request from frame manufacturers to go to 55mm chain line in order to accomodate a wider variety of suspension linkages and rear triangle layouts.

10/23/2024 9:10am I really dislike that 95% of size L's have a 475mm Reach and XLs have a 500m reach. The bikes need to offer 10mm of reach adjust for those of us in between. That said, the new Sentinel looks like an ideal AM rig to my eyes.

10/22/2024 9:32pm That 9-45t cassette from shimano is neat. I've wanted a tighter 12 speed option for a while other than stuff like e13 and garbaruk. I ran e13's 9t stuff for a while and on most bikes it worked well, some bike shapes didn't play nice with the 9t for the most part it worked out well. Shimano had that XTR 10-45t cassette but as far as I could tell it was vapourware; I've never managed to see one in real life. But 9-45t allegedly coming on a bike? XTR LINKGLIDE being 11 speed? This is crazy. it's like they listened...

10/12/2024 5:59pm Scoring aside, there was a lot of really wild riding that went down this year. The level everyone is operating at in 2024 simply boggles my mind.

10/10/2024 5:11pm I think one of the things that's most difficult for consumers, and even inside the bike industry pro-sumers to understand is how difficult and expensive the tolerances are for mountain biking products. This is likely the other big factor in the cost gap and perception gap between moto parts and full vehicle costs (other than the other large one that is economics of scale). Any time you are specifying a tolerances that is tighter then +/- 1mm, things start costing way more, and the amount of suppliers that are capable/willing of taking that on plummet. Beyond that, the amount of...

10/10/2024 10:26am 😅 We stubbornly wanted to make the sliding bushing work so bad, probably delayed the whole project by a year. At the end of the day in blind A/B testing, riders couldn't tell a difference so it was ease of service and manufacturing consistency that pushed us to fixed bushings. Mountain bikes are similar to motos in many ways but also different, so not every moto concept is a good fit for us. Sure, putting sliding bushings as a feature on our spec sheet would look cool, but if it isn't actually better we're not interested. And yes, it is...

10/2/2024 7:40pm Any time I fly with a bike, I just go to a shop and get a cardboard bike box. I've flown bikes back and forth across the planet a number of times this way now, and have never had anything worse than a slightly tweaked rotor.
