My Smuggler had the new gen Purg T9 up front last time and I was pretty stoked on it honestly, but then I switched to the new Albert up front and liked it a bit more. I'd try the 2.6 Albert Ultrasoft up front if weight is that important. Otherwise, sounds like a DHF 3c would be great based on your description. It's tough to keep a bike fast and light and have great front traction.

Fuck those cranks. There's SUCH a good structural reason why holes in cranks are a bad idea, with the exception of the sram cranks. The reason that all those 5dev cranks break despite not being very lightweight is 100 level shit, and I hate that the mtb industry is stupid enough to entertain it. Not to get all “well actually” on you Schroeder, but… your braking traction actually comes from the backside of the knob so the ramping has no effect here. Those nice straight edges on the back of the knobs are what’s giving that good bite on a tire like the Tacky Chan or the DHR.
