8/23/2024 2:11pm Same boat as UC and Noah, I was pretty skeptical and I don't shy away from big pedal days but man a big travel e-bike has been nothing but good times for me. I still ride all my bikes, I'm still 4+ W/kg, I haven't gotten fat, and I can pack a whole lot of fun into a small amount of time thanks to my e-bike. Can't wait for that Pinion MGU - who's got tech rumors of when it'll be available in the US?

8/23/2024 2:10pm I just got an ebike and it's blowing my mind. I don't think I was ever an ass about it, but I was certainly a bit judgy before. Now, I get it. For me, it just eliminates the slow, sloggy parts of the ride – it's always cruisy and fun. Plus, the penalty for using reliable, confidence-inspiring parts – beefy tires, big brakes, hefty suspension – is essentially eliminated. Isn't going to replace analog riding for me, it's gonna get me on a bike more, because I don't have to search for motivation when I'm tired, time pressed, or it's...

8/22/2024 8:04pm I agree that's it's a 'motor-bike', by definition. But ya know, pedaling uphill at 2 mph on a bike vs. 4 mph on a mid-power e-bike, ain't such a big deal in absolute terms. You are still crawling up that hill, nothing like a 55 hp KX450F. As far as 'cheating', I ride by self 97% of the time when riding the e-bike, so not sure how I'm 'cheating' when there isn't even a race going on. I mean bikes are also 'cheating' hikers by your definition, but only if you are racing them. But I certainly get the resistance...

8/22/2024 8:02pm My position is that with the mid-power e-bikes that are coming out, those are going to replace 'Enduro' bikes. Did you see the O'chain test that TeamRobot did? Pushing his Santa Cruz up that hill every time, while enjoying the improvement that the O-Chain brought. Wouldn't the E-Slash fix both of those issues? Don't tell me that a mid-power e-bike is cheating. How is riding your e-bike uphill cheating, yet walking or shuttling is somehow considered real biking? Give me a break.

8/22/2024 9:09am If they can make the battery out of air and cut the frame weight in half, that might be possible. LOL The excitement over the ZF & other promised products is over the top. It's not even in production and people are acting like advert copy is proof the other products are no longer competitive at all.

8/21/2024 4:49am are the downvotes based on? cause i'm talking facts here, oh let's remember the 28gr for a udh, so at the axle, Gx vs GX t-type you have ( cassette + deralieur ) 738gr vs 936gr, so 200gr of extra unsprung weight, on a total of 219gr more for t- type, now on XO is 370gr, so the huge (100gr) weight saving on the frame are not only gone but gone right at your rear axle, nice

8/20/2024 4:40am regardless of who's written the article... pinkbike is to corporate now, the other guy jumped out as he clearly wasnt enjoying it, same with tom. They are always bent over the lap of bike brands - Their reviews are always the same rubbish... hardly any truth to them.

8/19/2024 5:19pm You mean like this? - https://thesuspensionlab.nz/blog/2021/1/31/effects-of-temperature-on-su… I ran those tests about 5 years ago, it just took a while to get round to writing them up. It was mostly comparing different oils to see how much affect they had but overall the changes were pretty minor. I've found on the trail that shocks heat up pretty rapidly to around 20*c (even bouncing around the carpark will warm it up alot) and then starts to taper off and typically reach an equilibrium between 30 and 40 degrees. Through that range the different in damping is negligible. There might be some cases...

8/12/2024 8:34pm I posted this about an hour before you commented! Currently trying Michelins Force AM2’s on my Ibis Ripley AF. I ride in the Midwest and was looking for a faster rolling but durable light trail bike tire. My terrain is pretty rocky and have cut the sidewall on multiple Maxxis tires but my terrain is relatively flat so it’s a difficult problem to solve. My best way to describe these tires would be a Maxxis Rekon in a double down casing. It rolls well, traction is good and the casing is pretty beefy. It does exactly what I need it...

8/12/2024 3:23pm Is anybody else dying for an xc style tread with a double down level casing or is that too niche? I have one bike with two wheel sets, one for bike park and rough trails and one for long days on the bike, but where I live in AZ the trails are really rough but rolling speed is crucial to survive being out there for 40-60 mile rides. So I'd love a fast rolling xc tire that is extra dependable in the back country. Like a Rekon Double Down or something.

8/12/2024 12:30pm Absolutely. I raced the AZT 800 last year, and was really pulling my hair out trying to decide which tires to run. Anything with a fast tread has a wimpy casing, and anything with a tough casing has massive lugs. Wound up going with Vittoria Agarros with tire inserts, which got the job done with only one flat at the...

8/12/2024 12:21pm I hate how much tires cost and will complain every time I have to buy new ones, BUT, the reality is, when we're paying $130-150(cad) per tire, it would be like buying Michelin Cup 2 R's or or BFG Baja T/A KR3. Those are super high performance tires that are $1000+ each and made for Porsche's, Ferrari's and trophy trucks. And let's be honest, in the world of bikes, most of us are riding Porsche's, Ferrari's and trophy trucks. I still hate that we have to spend $130+ on tires.

8/9/2024 4:40am some of you wouldn’t be happy in heaven. each and every time I crest the top of a climb on my eeb I shake my head and laugh at how great it is. Playing with house money after my first day on an eMTB, they’re so sick! I’ve never expected a bike to last more than two years, so maybe that’s the issue, but my eebs have been right there with every other thing in this hobby. Unsure if Shimano are the worst, but certain they’re more fun than any pedal bike (DH bike + chairlift is the only thing...
