4/29/2026 2:40pm I just want to back up the claims regarding wax. It's amazing. Clean and does wonders for longevity of a chain. I mentioned this a few times, I was on a ~yearly chain cycle before switching over to drop-on wax, the first waxed chain lasted well over twice what the ones before it lasted. All XX1/X01 Eagle chains on the same drivetrain. As the chainring and cassette were shot (cassette was missing two teeth on the 50T, front chainring was like an old grandma's mouth, barely had any teeth left), I didn't check the stretch. After retiring the bike, it...

4/29/2026 4:45am Gonna be a dick and point out that if you run smaller than a 32t, you don’t need a power meter, you need a gym. Edit: it’s not my opinion, just an uncomfortable matter of fact for why they don’t make power meters for 30t rings. I’m sure there are exceptions, like people riding fully loaded 87lb touring bikes who pump out 450 watts so they can go at a walking pace. Or Primoz who apparently lives in a magical land where rock climbing and mountain biking intersect.

4/28/2026 9:16pm I feel like I can finally add input to this thread. I have just about every flavor of Maven's in my fleet and I just got the chance to try out the b1. I have a set of expert a1 (on my nomad 6), bronze a1 (on my ebike) and base that I just converted to b1's with a silver lever assembly (on my ht4 trail bike). I am also trying out a set of maven base levers with db8 calipers at the moment on a weird ultra light trail bike experiment build... but that's a story for a different...

4/28/2026 12:03pm They look a lot like the crappy stamped RT66 rotors. In the first picture you can even see where the poor flatness is causing the pad to not contact the rotor fully.

4/27/2026 5:19pm Ok, just did a ride on the new Tacky Chan Trail Pro Softs. I used the Wolf Tooth pressure calculator as an initial start, which rounded to 29 PSI rear, 26 PSI front. (For reference, I’m 220lb with kit and have been running 24/22 PSI on Maxxis EXO+ tires this season.) Started the ride with a half hour of climbing and the tires felt fine. Good traction, efficient feel, no complaints. Did the first bracketing run and while I didn’t notice any squirming on hard corners, I also didn’t notice anything notable about the traction, either. It felt like a...

4/27/2026 2:42pm Road bikes are stuck in the stone age due to UCI restrictions and nothing more. Without them they would look completely different. They probably have bigger wheels for sure.

4/27/2026 2:42pm Any thoughts on creating a new thread with to sole focus being DJI/Avinox/Amflow + Future (which can be technology and business)? I know a number of you subscribe to this looking for a broader range of things to be talked about. I'm happy to start one if you guys want.

4/27/2026 2:41pm There are already those issues with the wired in version of AXS and Di2 derailleurs on ebikes, it's actually obnoxious to work on them because of it. An interesting rhetorical question about CVTs and MGUs coming into this space is when do these "bicycles" stop being "bicycles"? Automatic shifting and the removal of manual control seem to me like the point where bicycles are no longer bicycles. We as a community and as an industry should probably draw those lines before we get too much further from where we are now. I'll stop my pseudo-philosophical ramblings here

4/27/2026 5:03am Have had a couple of rides on the new Romy in the 29" Gravity Pro soft flavour in the rear and I really like it! The new gravity casing is notably stiffer than the old Gravity Albert I was using, was pushing as hard as I could into corners and it felt super stable and supportive. Feels like it rolls really nicely, but with the chunky corner nobs and a nice transition with the centre knobs I have no complaints tipping it into corners. Tested with the MM trail ultra soft and Albert trail soft fronts and my preference is...

4/26/2026 6:09pm I got a good ride in on the Tacky Chan Gravity Pro. These finally are the radials for me. They roll fast, brake well, dig into loose dirt, and don't squirm on hardpack or smashing berms. In the new Grav Pro casing, the radial effect seems less than when I tried the Albert or MM, but I think that's for the better. They feel kinda slightly more muted than a normal casing most of the time, but if you hit roots they conform really well rather than pinging off. Really pushing hard into berms or loose corners, they deform and...

4/26/2026 9:17am 26in = 559mm which is actually 22in 27.5in/650b = 584mm which is 23in 29in/700c = 622mm which is 24.5in 30.5in/750d = 650mm which is 25.6in 32in = 686mm which is 27in 36in = 787mm = which is 31.0mm

4/26/2026 8:07am If you take a look at the Chinese bike brands making an impact, their road bikes are entirely house-brand (or house-made) components with one exception, drivetrain (which also means brakes of course). For those with mountain bikes, it is suspension and drivetrain/brakes. Consider how Avinox has integrated motor, battery, controller, and software to great acclaim then ask yourself why this archaic devise is dangling from the frame, in harm's way while simultaneously impairing aesthetics and systems integration. Fully agree on drivetrain wear and unnecessary gearing.

4/26/2026 7:58am The big incentive for DJI to take out SRAM/Shimano is I don't think the current drivetrains can really handle this kind of power for these durations. Sure a quick sprint here and there is no big deal, but turn that 3s sprint into 30+mins every ride and you've got massive drivetrain wear problems. Also with the torque these things make, you don't need anything like the gear range we have now. I'm already seeing people complaining about the rate at which they go through drivetrain parts (and the traditional grinding paste lube people use isn't helping anything). The big advantage...

4/24/2026 8:13am Most of you probably won't like hearing this. I certainly didn't. Earlier this week I had a chat with a guy who works in a product management role for Ralf Bohle GmbH, which is the owner of the Schwalbe tire brand. Mainly I asked a bunch of XC racing related questions, about compounds, casings, radial ply, rolling resistance testing, wheter we'll ever see the speediest XC casing with a black sidewall and why they felt they needed to change their naming scheme for casings and compounds. The gist of it is that they are hard at work behind the scenes...

4/23/2026 12:05pm I think a downtube experiences tension and compression, but I think for the majority of impacts its experiencing them as a compression event. That's part of the reason why roadbikes can have such tiny toptubes and still need such huge downtubes. The early 2010's TCR is a great example of this extreme difference in tube sizes: Here's my caveman understanding of those forces (not an engineer): But I don't even think that compressive force is the main reason downtubes need to be stiff. I think the main reason is that it connects contact points. It's the most direct line between...
