It depends on the system you’re riding. Some range extenders only trickle-charge the main battery, but others can run the bike by themselves. On our setup, the range extender can act as a standalone power source, so riding with just the extender is no problem. It’s a nice option if you want a lighter bike for a quick lunch ride.

Warranty % wise Deluxe R and super deluxe R are the most durable shocks in the RS lineup. Less parts, less seals and the designs haven’t changed much in probably 6-8 years at this point. The inline air shocks are great to have as a backup especially because they usually cost less than $100 used.

Flossman has all the classic traits of a narcissist. If you've ever worked with folks like this in any capacity... oof. He built of house of cards based on his charisma and it blew over. Expected.

lol. That was a fun bike to build but was def not the favorite of those three prototypes for anyone. Def know the crew learned a bunch from that. I really enjoyed that toolbox too….

A water bottle *is* a range extender. And it gives you more range than any battery 😜

As I get older, I'm trying to do stuff the "right" way instead of just making it up as I go. One of my main issues is that I'm a chronic over-tightener. It turns out that my hands are not calibrated to the torque spec. So I got a fancy torque wrench for working on my bike. The other day, it came time to replace my threaded bottom bracket. I was stoked because this was a chance to do stuff right! I can justify my purchase and utilize my new, flashy tool. I get the old BB out, clean out...

There's enough history to know that battery progress has been incremental on a predictable curve, and will continue to be so. Increases in energy density of premium cells are in the range of 5-8% per year. So wait 5 years and you can knock 30% off the weight of your battery. I've followed battery tech for way too long, and...

Capable =/= fun (depending on the rider) Not much of a compelling argument to be made of would you rather bunnyhop/scrub/etc a 35 pound mountain bike or a 45-55 pound ebike. Not sure I'll ever have the privilege, but I do want to try an 'SL' ebike one day to see if it feels like a 'normal mountain bike with some climbing assistance' or just 'a slightly lighter ebike with worse range'. Canyon Spectral Onfly looks fun to ride. But considering how easy it is to drain a 540wh battery on a Decoy and how unfun it is to ride...

I often try to put myself in a VC’s shoes to understand whatever the thesis may be, but boy...we are really reaching here. Am I missing something? As others have pointed out, the model isn’t fundamentally different from The Pro’s Closet, which just narrowly thwarted bankruptcy. What’s even stranger is looking at the cap table, Galvanize is a credible firm, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a more respected VC than Sequoia (though I'm guessing they invested during the COVID "everyone gets VC money" boom). AP Moller is European, and I don't mean this disparagingly, but euro vc is its...

Try some rubberized heat shrink on the levers. It might give enough grip without destroying gloves.

Check out Lizard Skins DSP brake lever grips. It's a super thin bar tape cut specifically for brake levers. I use it on my Dominion A4 and Maximas. It is nice and grippy and as a bonus it helps with cold metal levers during winter.

The Maven Base are good brakes, I'd be more than happy running them if I didn't have a set of Dominions ready to swap over. I don't want to overstate the wandering bite on the Mavens, it's not like Shimanos, it's subtle and all brake levers move a little when heating up. But the Dominions move a slight bit less...
I’ve got Maven Base and Dominions. Not a lot of difference in power but the Dominion lever point doesn’t wander in and out as much. I like the Dominions better. The stupid Maven levers are slick like ice. Actually had my finger slip off on a steep turn and broke my face something good. I had to put grip tape...

No, they couldn't. They have none of the design or product staff, they own none of the existing designs, carbon moulds, alloy tooling, or physical assets. They don't even own the trademarks or anything to rightfully carry on the business. They can't simply go and order more Jeffsy's from their asian manufacturing partners, without first paying off the (presumably) millions owed to them. So yeah, there was never any realistic shot for them to carry on as a standalone business. I laughed when they said YT USA will carry on, business as usual. Yeah, sure, for how long? And now...

Are you training (focused training time not just ride time) 8-11 hrs per week (5-6 sessions) with specific goals? If yes then do an 80/20 plan of polarization with that 80% being Z2 and the 20% being a combo of threshold and high intensity. Due to the total volume of training the body can't recover from higher amounts of high intensity, so it's Z2 working at a level that has adaptations but doesn't prevent recovery from those very key high intensity sessions. These athletes will also shift that 80/20 (70/30 or 60/40) to lower Z2 and more focused intensity in...

I just swapped out gx axs for eagle 90 and the improvement is shocking. The feel of the axs pod vs a real mechanical shifter is night and day for me. I was charmed by how genuinely impressive the new axs stuff is as a complete package but the shifters really let it down. Going back to mechanical highlights how important good ergonomics and sensory feedback are at shifter end.
