Dante Silva seems like one of the most relentlessly upbeat guys in downhill. I truly get a kick out of him every time he's interviewed. I was so happy for him when he qualified in Q1 at Lake Placid and went 16th in the finals. He's had a great 2025.

No one has a goal to lose money. Tax write offs just decrease losses by the effective tax rate, they do not somehow make you money. This is a common refrain that the ultra wealthy somehow make money by losing money, but math says nope.

Agree with Jotegr. No actual knowledge but.... A knowledgeable individual told me that RCR (Resorts of the Canadian Rockies) is best viewed through the lens of a real estate company. I also think summer operations can keep a few key staff employed year round but even then it's a fraction of winter. Presumably bikers also help keep restaurants etc open as well.

I feel like I've seen/heard this a few times from a few different people/places, but a small ski hill near me would make more money from ski lift passes over the holidays (maybe even only a few days worth) than they did for the whole summer of mountain biking. There was a place that was rumoured to make essentially zero profit from lift accessed DH (because ticket prices and rider numbers were low) but they kept it going because of the broader tourism/economic impact (e.g. you make no money on the lift pass, but lots on the food and beers)...

Anything you want to keep secret should not have any GPS data even recorded at all from your watch/Garmin/phone. Record it as a strength workout with GPS off. I don't trust Strava to even have the data held on their servers even if my ride is private and hidden from the heat map. Every tech company eventually grossly misuses private data and I expect Strava to be no different. (especially after they IPO)

Let me fix that for you: all Shimano calipers usually start leaking when stored in any position for an extended period of time.

UCI MTB World Series shared a photo of Remy with his fine on their instagram. Maybe they didn't realize it was one of the last slides in Luke's post.

Just heard Finn saying that most people are on the same line for the lower part of the woods and the bike park sections. The first section where I am just below the start gate is cutting up the most and has the most puzzling about lines.

I'm tired of Cathros childish schtick at this stage. He has always done great analysis but all those stupid cutaway segments just seem foolish and boring. The dude is 37 now. It's a bit pathetic but I guess he does whatever Pinkbike tells him to do He'd be great commentating on races as the current crew seem to have difficulty spotting which riders are on different lines

Interesting post from Gwinny about a crash he had at the U.S. Open last week, and the onsite services that were available through Dirt Medical and NeruoCatch to diagnose and test for a concussion. Sounds like the next level in safety that DH races need.

Lifetime warranties are a horrible idea even if people like me loooooove them. I ride stuff for a long time, and anything (not just rims) that's not a total boat anchor will eventually break. I've literally never had a rear rim that I didn't eventually ruin, and I'm fine with that. I don't want an insanely expensive 700g carbon rim...

I always assumed a big part of the higher price of carbon wheels was the built in warranty.

From the pits in Lake Placid today (Pit Bits vid coming in a few hours). What looks like dimples on the stanchion of a Boxxer, I'd assume to reduce friction. Forum expert opinion thoughts?

Their selling point was that they're kinda recyclable and less of an environmental mess than resin-carbon. Weight somewhere between carbon and fully recyclable (and cheaper) aluminum, so it was a tough sell. Ebikes are now the market driver, and I suspect all carbon rim offerings are going to have an uphill battle. Saving 100 grams per wheel isn't as compelling...

I've never tried Muc-off, but I'm with several other posters above and swear by the Orange Seal. I had OK luck with Stan's but I like the Orange Seal (standard) much better.
