FWIW I solved the TITS noise of brake hoses by threading paracord through the frame, running it parallel with the brake hoses. The cord provides sufficient cushioning / damping to kill the noise. There isn't enough clearance in the frame for the foam tubing.

Just to clarify. They Streisand'd the whole scenario. It's not like BK has the best reputation regardless (gestures vaguely at recent events) but he asked for the clip to be removed from MoiMoi's youtube video and generally tried to hide the event within the media and sweep it under the rug. Plus it came after his devastating live crash at Crankworx. Plus it had the added context of people going 'well its just a proto with an unfortunate proto flaw' for the first one, and then that happened. He got perfect storm'd... By some factors outside of his control and...

My version of what I think Robot was saying is that the issue is the industry is run by enthusiasts. I intentionally use "issue" instead of "problem," because I want my bikes designed by people who are passionate about riding bikes. But mixing passion for the sport with running a business in the sport can lead to the sort of irrational exuberance we saw during the COVID boom. I don't follow the financial news closely so I may be way off, but can you imagine the CEO of General Motors saying, "We just build the trucks we want to drive"...

I have a Garmin Forerunner 45. It’s simple, it works, and is pretty accurate GPS wise. Add a heart rate strap and you’re good to go. Doesn’t have all the fancy features of the Fénix series but costs hundreds of dollars less

I might be in the minority when I say that I'm fine with the current Q1/Q2 arrangement and the 30-rider finals. If they expanded the finals field to, say, 40 men's Elite riders and 20 women's Elite (or even more in both groups) I imagine one of the other changes they'd make is to reduce the gaps in the starting times, resulting in at least half the finals riders getting less of their runs shown. At the most recent race it took 1 1/2 hours for just the men's finalists to make their runs.

Most people moaning about Codes a few years ago also ran Rs from my experience. Very few people running RSCs complained about them. Maybe today when more powerful brakes are available, but not 5+ years ago. I think Sram did themselves a big disservice by even offering a Code R, they should have just started the lineup with Code RS.

I interviewed with a guy from rivian when they were setting that up… Figured they’d run for a few years, make some stupid $10k e bike like Harley tried and then go belly up.

Dude the org chart couldn't be clearer. But seriously, whenever I see anything this convoluted I immediately assume it's a drug front, money laundering, or tax evasion.

True. In the era of disc brakes, I've been less and less concerned with the lateral runout as it doesn't matter as much anymore. Even tension, at the expensive of lateral, and even slight vertical runout, is where I prefer to focus on. And you're right with tenacious oil suggestion; keeps them free later on when you need to make adjustments. Linseed oil is my go to.

YT TLDR; They took on PE at the peak of the bubble, struggles ensued when the good times stopped rolling. Founder guy in the vid probably cashed out (uninformed speculation). Maybe they'll pull a Kona.
That’s surely the “correct” way but I don’t worry about it and have rarely had issues if it’s just one spoke that broke - usually from rock damage. IME spokes, and even aluminum nips (sapim), last way way way longer than rear rims.

The Chris King crew were my booth neighbors at NW Tune-Up this past weekend and had some good chats with them. Turns out they have a mad scientist on staff who actually formulated and makes their own grease, it's not just white labeled stuff. Pretty cool.
I recommend you watch Colin’s vid as he explains it there, but basically on a normal b-tension system you set the distance via a screw so that the derailleur cannot move closer to the cassette than you want. However, it’s still free to move away from the cassette, creating noise and makes shifting messier. The hall lock simply locks the derailleur in both directions. The new SRAM T-type derailleur are essentially hall locked which I suspect are a pretty big part of the performance upgrade after trying this out.

Alright, I’ve just read through the last few pages of this thread, and I have a question: Have you considered that your strong preference for a particular setup might be matched—or even outweighed—by an equally strong preference for something different among a broader group of well-informed riders? It seems possible that what you're seeking is a very specific riding feel that simply doesn’t align with what the majority of riders want. In that case, it's less about the bike industry being misguided or behind the curve, and more about you needing to seek out the brands or builders that cater...
