JVP Added a comment about product review Spartan

Rode the old Sparty for 2 years. I disagree with this: "The previous bike required large amounts of sag in the 35% plus range to utilize all of the available travel" At 33% sag it was perfect with the stock air shock. Used all your travel when you really needed it, and felt bottomless and supportive. I wish more bikes were as progressive as the Spartan.

I had the older model Spartan (fantastic bike, just too short), with the same BB height as the current one. It was a little too low. Had to leave it in low because the old Sparty had a steeper head angle than I prefer. My current bike (last year's Patrol) is a wee bit higher, and I like it better.

JVP Added a comment about feature Vital MTB Face Off: The Best Heavy-Duty Disc Brakes

I'm all for the real world vs. lab testing reviews. Lab tests are junk, they don't mean squat. The real world is far more variable, far more demanding, and takes into account abuse - and abuse is the name of the game for how we actually ride.

OK, we need to get real here for a bit. First of all yes, as we pointed out in the article, SRAM has had quality issues with the Guide family of brakes. The most common problem is the master cylinder piston which has a tendency to get sticky over time, especially in hot weather. In our experience, SRAM has been good with warranty replacement, although there have been supply issues from time to time. Now, for your problem: "they get incredibly spongy", "to the point where the lever touches the grip", and "happens on every single one of the Guide...

We really need a good national series for the juniors and race development in general. It would be better for all juniors, and really get more women into racing, too. Women's riding is really taking off in some regions, but we're not seeing it at DH elites, yet. Would you let your 17 year old kid drop from school to...

No kidding. MaxxSpeed and dual compound are both super hard dry-only rubber, unless something changed. These tires had to be scary riding over wet roots or rocks. Something isn't adding up since the reviewer mentioned they're in the PNW. No one around here likes MaxxSpeed rubber. You guys sure that was the rubber compound you tested?

JVP Added a reply to SRAM Eagle chain longevity is impressive

Which 11 speed chains last the longest for the money? I heard some industry guy say (on a podcast or something) that a good quality chain is one of those money-well-spent things. I always assumed the more expensive chains are just shinier and lighter. $80 seems like a brutal amount to spend on a chain, but if it lasts 2x...

Great review, thanks for putting this under a 200 pounder like Johan who rides hard. Everything works fine for light dudes who ride smooth, so this review carries weight. Agree with Carraig042, update this after you flog it for a season. Looks like a really promising post.
