How did you destroy the two SLX derailleurs? I'm asking because I'm not sure a XTR or GX rear derailleur is gonna be more resistant to direct rock strikes, for instance.

It's pretty hard to justify switching brands if all you need is a new derailleur. I'd step up to XT, the metals in both brands lower spec stuff bends more easily than their GX/XT and above. But stuff breaks when you go hard, so I wouldn't read too much into a couple destroyed mechs. I personally like SRAM shifting and...
3 of the guys I ride with went back to 27.5. 2 of them went Patrol > Sentinel > Patrol, so apples to apples. Better turning, more fun, less tire buzz. They’re all 5’8” - 5’9”. Fast riders, but not pros. If they got faster or slower it wasn’t by much, the pecking order didn’t change. We live in the...

Don't use one, don't want one. My crew all had something like that at least once over the years, and they're worse than neutral because you inevitably forget to turn them off and wonder why the last 5 minutes of trail was harsh. Marz's ETA was the WORST, it actively tried to kill you. We all used to yell "ETA...

My buddy’s Kenevo was blinking red after 3200 ft of vert yesterday. He’s a big dude, but still. They’re getting there, but the range isn’t yet compelling. Once they can replace shutting, then game on!

Come join me on a ride with 5k of climbing. Oh wait, you cant. I'm not anti-ebike. I rode with an out of shape buddy who was on one this morning. But that's their biggest downside until batteries get a lot better.

Interesting framing that paints a deceptively rosy picture. Any particular reason you picked May? As of March, lumber prices were up ~170% on the year…so down 40% from that 13 year high isn’t exactly normal.

I usually wear out a pair of riding shoes before the laces. Not a problem. Quick laces rip themselves within a week though

Congrats on the upgrades. These pants are legit. Thrashed my V1 pairs and they still solid. Ordered 2 more and tossed all my other bike shorts in the trash.

I've abused a bunch of GX and XO1 Eagle bits. I'm pretty hard on gear, smash a lot of rocks. Derailleur: The X01 is more durable than GX. That said, there's a hack! The biggest problem with the current GX der is the B-bolt. It's metal-on-metal with the derailleur body and this interface wears down over time, getting that play...

How does T7 compare to Maxxis MaxxTerra? Equivalent wet grip, or faster rolling? I'd LOVE an Aggressor in MaxxTerra for better wet rock & root traction, looks like the Eliminator might be it. Raging River double lollipop with more confidence on People's Elbow, Invictus and "other stuff"! So rad the huge local rides we can do after work in the Seattle area these days.

Also I forgot to mention. The FETT 2000/Bike Grease 2000 is crazy expensive in the US (not sure about in Brazil). Theres really no reason to spend 4x the money on grease for a bike. Any of the products people have listed will work just fine for our bikes. We're not dealing with extreme pressure, temp, shear, load etc. For me the number one selling price is the waterproof qualities and how well it stays where I want it to. BelRay for me.

For the last very long while, it's hard to go wrong with a: Maxxis Minion DHF 2.5 ... front and rear. Every venture in another direction over the years keeps me coming back to the above. You might be able to eek out smidgens of performance with other combos on certain days, but in general if these do you wrong, it's hard to say it was the tires.

I wonder the same thing. The only explanation I can come up with is that companies are building bikes for the slower 80% of riders, not the faster 20%. Fast riders need more progression because they're hitting things faster and harder, but slow riders don't and will have trouble ever reaching bottom out with reasonable sag numbers. So maybe manufacturers are catering to Jerry at the cost of you and I? Similarly, product reviews are becomingly increasingly important for bike sales, but most product reviewers in the MTB world suck at riding. Building a sick bike for Martin Maes might...

Steve's videos on rebound are great. My understanding is the rebound speed is related to the position of the spring. The deeper the spring is in the travel, the more spring force and thus faster the spring will want to rebound. Interestingly, adding volume reducers would amplify this affect deep in the travel because total spring force is increased, but leverage rate wouldn't affect spring force because it's a mechanical lever and doesn't affect the spring. So running a super heavy spring rate or lots of volume reducers would mean you might need to add HSR, but running a low...

I suspect you're right about designing for the middle of the bell curve. Back in the day there was sometimes complaining about not using all your travel. But many of these brands have installed OEM bottom-out tokens which the Jerrys will never take out, so what's the point of your crappy leverage curve at that point? And I'm "just a guy" saying this. Not going to find me on a podium or in some sick edit .
