The o-chain thing is, in my opinion, the absolutely most confusing thing happening in mountain biking today. The math says it should provide zero benefit above speeds of like 6 or 8 mph (or whatever, pretty slow, depends on hub engagement but you know... pretty slow) YET, there are tens of elite level world cup racers using them, and I'm assuming thousands of people that most would consider to be regionally elite. I feel like there really needs to be a quantifiable deep dive into what it actually does. But I guess if it does or doesn't provide any benefit...

?? AXS shifts when you push the button, there's no way for the system to know where the cassette is in its roatation. Previous geration Eagle AXS and Eagle cable systems all use the same cassette.

The only reason why everything was launched yesterday is Taipei cycle show to draw people to their booths there. it's no different than Sea Otter launches....

Shimano just released a ton of budget/mass market products under the Cues 'groupset' so not exactly leaving the low end market to others. More like Shimano doubling down on their dominance of the low/mid end of the market.

If the new chain is compatible with the old drivetrains, then you can use any old X-Sync 2 compatible chainring.

Isn't the puropse of the breakaway to mimick a traditional derailleur and protect the servo motor gears from being damaged from an impact? A cable operated derailleur (except Shimano's rapid-rise experiment) can already move inboard quite far since it doesn't tension the cable in that direction. You can shift into lager cogs pushing your thumb on the cage without using the shifter if you want to. Without pedaling it'll bind mechanically after about 5mm, but so will an AXS system. It's only going to be a matter of time until this works its way onto all levels of SRAM drivetrains...

Bummer, the cassette looks killer, but like many the expensive battery stuff isn't my cuppa. They'd kill it with a GX cabled version of this. Due to price point for OEM I can't imagine they won't do it. June release for GX, right?

as stated, the controllers are backward compatible. old axs controller works with this kit and the new pods work with old axs. i'm really curious as to why they're saying it's not backward-compatible. we didn't mount an old chain on the bike, but in the studio (seen in video), the old x0 chain seems to wrap just fine on the cassette and chainring. have to assume it won't shift properly? also since the T type chain can be used w/ old eagle, so couldn't the new cassette and T type chain roll w/ the orig axs/eagle derailleur, cranks and shifter...

Haha! I love it! Sometimes when you're working on a project and you're not getting the results you want, you need to scrap it and come up with a new plan. If making sub-par Front Derailleurs got us to 1x systems, I'm OK with that.

I bet a donut that when they're running lower tension (at 60kgf or whatever crazy number) a spoke or three is actually going slack quite a bit. So I think there's a real effect. I suspect that the forces a world cup DH racer is putting through the wheels are a lot higher than what Sheldon or zee Germans tested...

On flat ground maybe... Anywhere where you are considering a 24x52 gearing you will not come anywhere close to 4mph walking speed.

jesus wept, The amount of whinging from you lot on a forum specifically about tech rumours and innovation is astounding to me. Primoz, man, like I said, theres tonnes of brand new XX1 out in the world, go buy it so you no longer have to worry. I can only assume you have tried AXS on your mtb, strangely everyone Ive spoken to that owns it, absolutely loves it. Ive seen many online complaints, but I dont put too much stock into that, cause often its people weirdly expressing opinions about something they know very little about those of you...

Regarding the 2023 Super Deluxe, Disclaimer- I don't have dyno readings ;-) I've had the good fortune of receiving support from Rockshox for my race team 'RaceKraft' which is a Jr Devo team. We have 6 bikes set up with the Super Deluxe Ultimate Coil. I'm a total shock nerd and have spent some time revalving these shocks for my riders. We've only had a couple of trips to the desert and to race Bootleg a few weeks ago. First off, the architecture of these things is rad. It's pretty clear that durability was a major focus. The shock shaft...

EDR is just the 3 letter acronym for enduro. Downhill is DHI, Cross country XCC, XCO, XCE, XCM... This is just a short form to appear on results sheets/quickly differentiate between similar disciplines (especially in XC), even the UCI don't refer to downhill solely as DHI, I don't understand why people are getting torn up over it.
