JVP Added a comment about feature What’s the Best MTB Front Tire? | Vital MTB Roundup

I ran some e. Thirteen a few years back. The tread was too square and shallow for my preference and conditions, but that MOPO rubber was impressive. Not surprising to see the Vee get some love here.

When I see bikes like that (and the new Pivot, Demo, intense etc.) it makes me appreciate what Neko is doing with Frameworks even more.

Play by play commentary was needed for the radio as there was no vison to watch. Rob Warner openly said in his Vital Podcast that he tried to commentate this way in the Freecaster days and Red Bull sent him to commentary school to learn how to let the vision do the talking, leave gaps in the commentary and create a story not just commentate the action. This is all sports are now commentated for TV. Agree that Discovery still have room to improve, but we are comparing them to someone who was commentating for over a decade and this...

they're easily removable/not required and pretty sure cranksets can be purchased w/o.

XT is good stuff, and I appreciate the 24mm axle for longer-lasting BB bearings. I used to bend XT cranks about 1X a year back in the day, but replacement left crank arms were easy to source, so wasn't a big deal. Maybe the XT cranks are stronger now? I'd probably go Zee or Saint instead. Cranks aren't where I want super light. RF Aeffect R is also a good with a 24mm axle and you get more cinch chainring options, and they're durable.

They're essentially the same weight as any other good quality 7000 series aluminum crankset, are they not? Turbine maybe 10g lighter, RF Aeffect R, old GX, etc. all about the same. Not heavy at all, the X0 is just very light for an aluminum crank.

The GX Eagle big cog is aluminum, not steel. The 11 speed GX cassette was fully steel.

File the “backsweep” topic right next to the “should your handlebars be the same height as your seat when it’s fully extended” topic. These are not tech rumors. These are subjective, personal preference, opinions based on anecdotal evidence. Enough.

I have found that my mullet bike pedals just the same as my full 29" bikes. If anything on certain situations it feels better since the smaller wheel spools up faster and easier.

Funny. I actually have a suspicion for a lot of us a mullet bike is going to be faster going up. Its something I will likely test for the youtubes in an XC/Trail/"backcountry" application. Here is the hypothesis... *A lighter wheel goes uphill faster than a heavier wheel with the same power applied *All things equal (tire, rim, etc) - a 27.5" wheel is lighter than a 29" wheel. *The benefits of a 29" wheel (for most mortals) are not applicable in most climbing situations on a MTB (Inertia is higher at speed, rolls over chunk better) Before anyone says...

I don't know how noticeable it would be, but the smaller wheel with the same gearing equates to slower speed at the same cadence.

It's steep AF, with a bunch of off-camber sections, awkward corners and rain in the forecast. Not too worried.
