This is MUCH bigger than just National Parks. With one fell swoop, e-bikes are likely to be allowed on thousands of miles of BLM trails (but not just yet). When this news hit we were deep in Eurobike and World Cup madness and unable to really dig into the topic and what it means, and you guys deserve a deeper look. It's all a bit confusing, but this should make sense of things for you. The Secretary of the Interior outlined it all in Order No. 3376, Increasing Recreational Opportunities through the use of Electric Bikes. It boils down to...

The thing that scares me about people only having to work 15 hours a week, not having to work, or be unemployed is that bored people are dangerous people. Too much time to focus on tribalism (it's taking a political partisan form these days). Humans evolved to work, not to sit around.

The Whyte deal could make sense, unlike some of the more recent examples. They're buying at the bottom, not chasing a bubble. They probably didn't pay much and may have saved a company starved for cash (who knows).

I completely concur with your sentiment. I'm uninterested in watching someone die on a bike and unfortunately it feels like just a matter of time for something like that to happen at rampage. And honestly I'm starting to get worried about the speeds in World Cup DH. I also don't want to diminish peoples desire to progress and push the sport, and people can do what they want. Seems like the whole sport is at a cross roads.

Respectfully, it's more accurate to say " Pro tip, your super enduro will absolutely be acceptable for DH trails." No matter how good long travel single crown bikes are these days, there's still no replacement for displacement.

So us weirdos that were riding 170mm Jr and Mr T's on our rigs in the late 90s/early aughts were trailblazers then?

I pushed the rock shox product manager to keep the 35mm Boxxer and update with a tapered steerer and 15mm axle for these bikes. Shot down.

Does this mean we’ll have to see Kolb in sexy speedsuits next year, too? Or are they only doing that with Jackson?

Dante Silva seems like one of the most relentlessly upbeat guys in downhill. I truly get a kick out of him every time he's interviewed. I was so happy for him when he qualified in Q1 at Lake Placid and went 16th in the finals. He's had a great 2025.

No one has a goal to lose money. Tax write offs just decrease losses by the effective tax rate, they do not somehow make you money. This is a common refrain that the ultra wealthy somehow make money by losing money, but math says nope.

Agree with Jotegr. No actual knowledge but.... A knowledgeable individual told me that RCR (Resorts of the Canadian Rockies) is best viewed through the lens of a real estate company. I also think summer operations can keep a few key staff employed year round but even then it's a fraction of winter. Presumably bikers also help keep restaurants etc open as well.

I feel like I've seen/heard this a few times from a few different people/places, but a small ski hill near me would make more money from ski lift passes over the holidays (maybe even only a few days worth) than they did for the whole summer of mountain biking. There was a place that was rumoured to make essentially zero profit from lift accessed DH (because ticket prices and rider numbers were low) but they kept it going because of the broader tourism/economic impact (e.g. you make no money on the lift pass, but lots on the food and beers)...

Anything you want to keep secret should not have any GPS data even recorded at all from your watch/Garmin/phone. Record it as a strength workout with GPS off. I don't trust Strava to even have the data held on their servers even if my ride is private and hidden from the heat map. Every tech company eventually grossly misuses private data and I expect Strava to be no different. (especially after they IPO)
