2/9/2024 6:23am From my experience with calipers, bolted vs mono block isn’t all that important as long as the bolted interface is done properly. That entails getting the fasteners as close to the rotor as possible and maximizing contact area between the two halves. Most the deflection should be between the joint/bridge and the bottom edge of the caliper regardless of how it’s constructed. In my mind for bikes, most the benefit of a mono block lies in packaging. Not having to worry about big bolts frees up space. The bridge across the center of magura calipers would be hard to fit...

2/8/2024 2:06pm I don't believe that is what's really going on for a couple of reasons. 1, rubber generally expands much more than aluminum when heated so adding heat makes the seal fit tighter. 2, when designing our calipers we found that without compression played less of a roll with pad retract than you'd think. Too little compression creates sealing issues and too much increases risk of compression set. What I think is mostly likely causing what they are experiencing is super hard braking. That happens to usually correspond with lots of heat. Since seal deflection controls pad retract, if you apply...

2/7/2024 6:47am I'm going to walk on the wild side and go with Gwin Racing on GT frames this year. It's a good platform to race on, it's an American brand, and it'll be great for his bike park.

2/6/2024 10:45am Bikes are really freaking good these days. It is not going to be a revelation each time a brand launches or updates a bike. The tagline Vital put to it was: "Subtle but significant changes keep the all-mountain ripper alive and well." Meaning it is an update, not a whole new bike or platform. Were you hoping for 200mm travel, 90 degree STA, 45 degree HA, and 23 pounds? For the last decade it seems that every bike is lower, longer, and slacker. That only works to a point. Bikes have settled into pretty great categories. At this point the...

2/5/2024 1:54pm I'm pretty sure it's just an edit. On the SC IG page they called it solo, which was the original name for the 5010.

2/5/2024 9:59am The link did exactly was I exactly what I was hoping it would (and what the graphs said it would). I had to run too stiff previously to prevent bottom outs. Now I have only 1 volume reducer instead of 3, and am not bottoming. I'm using about 90-95% of my travel but the small bump stuff is so much better. Turned stutter bumps into a highway....its so plush. I have to pre-load a little earlier on jump lips because more of the travel is active, but this isn't a problem just a difference. I get a little more pedal...

2/5/2024 9:02am I find a higher stack to be more comfortable. Especially if you like to ride with a body position towards the rear of the bike or are riding truly steep trails. However there is a limit before you can’t weight the front properly. So reach/ head tube angle, and chainstay length are all a factor in how high you can go. Longer wheel base with a reasonable reach number like a transition spire can definitely allow a lot of additional stack height compared to something with more conservative numbers. But whether that’s a good thing really depends on your riding...

2/5/2024 9:00am C'mon guys...weird discussion really If you use political correctness as a way of critique against someone, you're missing the point. If a rider gets a contract or not, is down to team owners. In times of Internet, there are many different reasons to hire a rider or not, and they're not always related to the rider him/herself. But that's not really up to you. That leaves the question: what do you gain from hating publicly on someone you don't even know. And even worse, hiding behind a username at the same time. Just try and find a better pasttime, it'll...

2/5/2024 8:58am You're correct. 157 Superboost is dying. Mondraker and Pivot, arguably the only big mainstream brands in favor of SuperBoost, have both switched back to using Boost 148 on their latest models. All the while Boost 148 is even showing up on some DH bikes. For the forseeable future, we're stuck with Boost 148. Not because it's particularly good or makes sense, but because it's the de-facto standard. Brands won't change to anything new for the fear of customers being put off by the idea of yet another rear hub standard change. Even if a potential new standard was a genuine...
