I agree with you. What a fuckin waste. I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first year and even paid to watch. Last year I pirated it out of spite and will continue to do so until they actually make a positive impact on the sport.

Long live The Union. A fraction of the budget and a bigger stack of results than so many high-dollar teams out there. Their absence tells the story of things to come.

Make a well engineered but expensive to manufacture component that is reliable. Or. Make a cheap but unreliable component and just keep replacing it. A large number of the components will never actually be used enough to fail anyway (and so are very profitable) and those that are will be replaced immediately (and cheaply). Customers remember 'the outstanding customer service' rather than having a component that never actually needed it in the first place and associate that with being a good product. eg, Trek spec the '1248' freeehub body on a load of wheelsets, it's absolute garbage and fails constantly...

I have two BY droppers. One has been flawless for years. The other one has been giving me mild troubles since new, never as smooth and responsive as the other one. Then there were problems with failing bushings. I am still a big fan and would buy another one in a heartbeat, but they aren't completely flawless. I would not hesitate to buy a 3rd party wireless kit if reasonably priced and engineered well enough. Petty emtpy beer dramas make no difference to me.

What I see is a classic clash of US and DE business cultures.

Yeah unsurprisingly when you outsource all of your technology production for 30 or 40 years, those people get really really good at it...... especially when it comes to manufacturing something to a price. I'm sure a lot of western companies could build a great competitor to DJI but it might cost about three times as much! Are people willing to pay that much for something just because it isn't Chinese? We also forget that products made in China aren't sometimes bad because of where they are made, they are bad because they were made to a spec and a price...

I don't know where you get the idea that NA is more technologically advanced than China. At least on the electric car front, China's putting out better products than the US or Germany from what I've read.

That part of the Alps is granite or something similar (volcanic source, hard as woodpecker lips). Grippy AF. For us Slovenians, used to limestone which is slick at the best of times and is like ice in the wet, it was a complete WTF regarding grip levels when it was damp or wet. Better than dry in our neck of the woods.
