The unit was generating roughly $65-73M in EBTIDA per year. When you net everything out, Fox lost about $400M before counting capex and working capital. The only thing Fox retains in this deal are the losses. No IP sticks around, not that they'd want it anyway. Baseball has nothing to do with suspension. OUCH.

I like the Norco. I like the demo. I like race bikes and I ride them to about 80 percent of their ability when I’m at 1000 percent of my own, with my kids, making shapes in the park. Well, one is made by canyon and the other made by Norco. It’s not this threads or this community’s mandate to cave into your demands and outline a spreadsheet of the differences between bikes. Calling us nerds and demanding we do your homework is just high school-ish behavior.

The DH is a Four bar linkage with two actuating links, not a Six bar in the sense of Commencal or Scott, where the extra arms define wheelpath. Obviously there's a lot more to linkages than 4 vs 6, and this new bike absolutely is not the "same" as the range, but they are both Four bar.

I'm with you on this. I always look at it like F1 is to the car industry. Some of that good tech eventually trickles into the grocery getters that I drive and I am better off for it. I like that some companies try crazy or impractical designs without considering cost. There are plenty of "dumbed" down DH bikes for people like me, but i do appreciate that there is super high end DH bikes that I can drool over and maybe ride in a parking lot someday. Also think I heard on a podcast onetime that the DH bikes...

I think you kind of nailed the point- DH bike development isn't for selling DH bikes but selling trail bikes. The R & D probably helps the whole line up of bikes, but it raises the brands profile so much it doesnt matter if they make the money back on DH bike sales or not. Despite the high prices it wouldnt surprise me if they still aren't hugely profitable at all

For real, it's expensive but how much r and d they did and the likely low volume of sales make the price make sense to me. The Torrent would also make a killer race bike for people on a tighter budget, but I think a lot of people have gotten lost in the Freeride marketing.

Doing specific molds, single size shock cradles, and etc seems like an expensive way to do it, but honestly, it kind of feels like the right way to do it. It's expensive, and they make another bike to grab if you're on a budget. I dig it.

Pricing on that bike is pretty gnarly but I get it. People in the PB comments are big mad about it, but it will sell. They complained about demo prices and I saw dozens of them in Whistler when I went last month. Norco has been spending money on development and roster like it’s going out of fashion ever since they started with the new range.
