Where are the new Evil models posted? Any idea if they’re abandoning the superboost rear hub spacing?

Fingers crossed they go back to 148.  Some of my favorite bikes were Evil, but I switched to other brands when they went to Superboost.  As someone with multiple bikes, and having been on riding trips where people had to borrow rear wheels, Superboost is a dealbreaker for me.  My current trail bike is a 2022 model, and I haven't been interested in any new bikes.  If Evil goes back to 148, I would probably order one at release.

On trips you can borrow dh wheels from someone or rent a dh wheel from a shop, not the end of the world, although back to 148 would be nice given that transmission offers a similar chain line they wanted to achieve tanks to superboost ( as per one of the last q&a s on instagram )

I don't even like playing the "Who has a 148 rear wheel I can borrow [with my preferred freehub interface and/or a cassette of similar size and # of speeds that's compatible with my chain]?" game.

I don't think I would like the 157mm SuperBoost version of that game.

Also odd that they don't show what the internal rim width is or even a basic cross section of the rim? They look wide, but what's the internal width which will affect your tires shape when inflated.
How wide is the shoulder the bead sits on? is it wide or something narrow that will burp easily?
They also look kinda shallow, I've never had much luck with shallow rims lasting, in my riding experience the shallow rims are the ones I kill the most easily.
Can't say they are filling me with trust/confidence without basic info like that.

I have fought off having superboost rear wheels in my fleet for many years.  My wife fell in love with a pivot recently and got herself one.  It has ruined the zen status of all wheels/hubs fitting all bikes in my garage.  It is as bad, if not worse then the dystopian axle future I imagined that had me avoiding pivot bikes for nearly a decade now.

superboost sucks... after having a superboost bike forced on me, I can safely say, I will never own a superboost bike.

But WE NEED MORE CHOICES BECAUSE STANDARDS MUST NOT BE STANDARD

I was on a 10 day riding trip in Iceland 2 years ago and this exact issue happened to a guy in our group.  He had flown from Australia with his bike, and when we were at the headquarters of the guide company assembling our bikes(in the middle of nowhere) he realized there was an issue with his rear hub.  A few of us tried to fix it in their shop but he was missing a piece in the hub.  Fortunately, his bike was 148 and the guide company had a few rental bikes, also 148, and they were nice enough to loan him one for the 10 day trip.  If he had Superboost, I highly doubt we would have found him a wheel, and he would have had to ride a clapped out rental bike for the trip after flying around the world with his own personal bike.

Well that math doesn't instill much confidence.  37mm must round up to 40mm...

They didn't dimension the other lip... it could be 6.5 mm wide. But not making dumb machine shop assumptions, it's approximately 36.5 mm wide on account of that 3.5 mm dimension actually being at a slight angle. I took the profile and traced it on my computer really quick. Going off the 30 mm dimension being correct, all the other dimensions are quite close to their callout. That's some next level rounding or just straight up making it up.

I've never heard of a shop renting wheels. Hell, I asked 7+ shops in Morzine to rent me just a helmet without a bike and all but one wouldn't even do that! (wanted one with ASTM F1952)

I don't build wheels, and have no desire to as that's the main way I support my LBS. I've 100% freed myself from not being able to ride a certain bike in my quiver due to nuking a wheel. All 148 bikes with Hope front hubs that can be converted between 15mm and 20mm.

Very interested to see what rear spacing the new Demo is using...

Didn't Spesh have some nonsense about keeping the Demo rear end at 135mm so it could "more easily fit between rocks" back when Boost was first happening?

yeah the swoopy one when Gwin/Brosnan was on board.

I went through 3 frames in a year when I rode those, all cracked in the same BB junction. The 135mm hub was so dumb you could feel the wheel flex in berms.

Sick looking bike though.

I run the same rear wheel size and rotors and tires and forks and frames on all of my bikes for maximum interchangeability

The crown on that KYB strikes me as excessively sculpted. Might just be the angles, but it looks reeaal light.

It’s not. It’s 2900g.

Oh come on

What are you doing swapping wheels every other day? I call bullshit to all this superboost hate

I agree 148 for everyone would be the best thing

But if you’ve got a superboost bike with a nice set of wheels I really don’t see the point in wanting to swap stuff around constantly

Get legos to do that

Almost 5 years into owning a superboost bike and I’ve never had once an issue with it

Once I sent a wheel for warranty and just borrowed a DH one for the weekend, 0 issues there too

Well the bad news is that I don't know what to tell you, and the good news is that I have nothing to prove, nor nothing to gain for convincing you.  I have a lot of mountain bikes and so does my wife, 6 between us.  Everyone of our bikes has sram brakes with metallic pads, 200mm hs2 rotors and the same sram drivetrains and sram dt350 hubs on every wheelset save one.  There are two extra floater wheelsets between all of the bikes.

I think it may actually be more important for me to be on the right tires then it is to be on the right bike.  For example, my trail bike runs dhr2 f/r, my wife runs assegai/dhr2 f/r and the floater wheelset we have between us is disector v2 front, forekaster rear.

Maybe I'm the weirdo that mtb marketing departments are successfully targeting,

No need to convince me, I just find it ridiculous that’s all.

Perhaps I don’t own 3 or more bikes and I don’t need to swap stuff around at all and so it doesn’t really affect me, as long as you’re happy with boost and I am with superboost then it’s all good

For those who have had problems with the Santa Cruz V10 headset, now the last units are with this screw in the piece.

That has been out for the 2024 V10 since late last year.  SC has been sending them out under warranty throughout this season, I got mine in July.  Still running a good bit a torque through the headset. I haven’t heard of any 2025s needing it, SC said they made some changes.

To be fair, Transition said the same thing about the current gen TR11 being 148 when it first came out. Although, it seemed like it was tongue in cheek.
