Could be a water reservoir to drip onto the rear brake and cool it, this is something I've seen used from time to time by racers over the years. Sounds like the track is hard on brakes, so some cooling might be beneficial.
What a contrast from last week when people were having issues with cold brakes.
Back in the 90’s many riders (including Warner IIRC) experimented with water dripping from a bottle onto the rear disc to prevent them heating up. Could it be that Kerr rides a bit ‘draggy’ on the rear brake which, especially on the steep lower sections at Loudenvielle, could have been giving him issues?

I would think the rear would heat up more than the front because of how you use them. Front brake hard and intermittent and rear brake is more constant for speed management, thus not allowing it to cool.

Yeah rear brakes can get absolutely cooked on a track like this, as even the pros will brake drag half the run. Because the corner speed at some points is quite slow after the shutes, they just need to get rid of that energy through the brakes. Front brakes you can't drag going down the steeps, as you'll just lose traction and miss the lines.
You can check on your bike if your overheating due to the disc discoloration.
It's why some pros go up and down rotor sizes/pad compounds to get the brakes at optimal temp, here overheating is an issue, for other tracks maintaining heat is an issue.

They did mention it on the official broadcast that some teams were using a "dripper system" to help with rear brake temperature, so you guys were indeed correct!

The rear brake normally does at least as much work, if not quite a lot more than the front. Not many people are truly 50/50 if you look at something like brakeace data, so its normal for the rear to get hotter. You can often see its more common for rear rotors to be discoloured more than the front too
