2023 TEAM RUMORS

11/14/2022 4:47am

So what I’ve heard on the podcasts I’ve recently listened to.

Pivot are getting a new male rider, unsure if it’s addition or replacement.

Wynn did screen testing for discovery but won’t be doing the main job.

Blenki to Cube.

I know not technically racing but riders are getting upset with the scoring at rampage and there might be a lot less of them there next year. This is according to Davi on the ride companion talking to Andreu Lacondeguy

Anyone any insight into what’s happening with Gracie Hemstreet? What teams are missing a female rider?

I don't have anything to back it up but I saw someone post on Instagram yesterday Gracey Hemstreet to YT. On the same post they had some info I believe might be correct (Jack Moir to YT) & some I believe is incorrect (Meier-Smith brothers to YT, actually going to Giant) so take it with a pinch of salt. Gracey to YT would seem like a good fit though?

the most recent thing i saw (no idea how concrete/formal/official) was that there are 3 levels of team being offered from 5 to 23k euros depending status (access/benefits) single or multi-discipline. i don't know what tge price was this past year, so no idea if there's an increase, or if it's big/small.

there are also some other rules and regs for team visuals in the bargaining stages right now. can't decide if initial proposal is laughable or sad, but trying to remain hopeful.

regardless of prices and potential rule changes, i agree w/ everyone here saying there's too much uncertainty for small players and would have to think the same for big players, assuming overall impressions and competitive fields are drastically lower than years past. we'll see i guess.

I believe I read it was under 5000 Euros in previous years, if so that's a huge price hike.

cyclingtips layoff chaos followed by loads of canceled subs (according to comments). sucks for those who got the axe as that community seemed to really value what they did.

https://forum.cyclingtips.com/t/laid-off-caley-fretz-dave-rome-matt-de-…

"Today Caley Fretz, Dave Rome, Matt de Neef and Daniel Benson (Editor-in-Chief of VN) were let go. Plus lots of other staff (including Steve Brawley who has been with CT for years in sales) and others throughout the company. 12% in total.

What a clusterfcuk OutsideInc is. Robin Thurston has gotten his head over his skis and singlehandedly fcuked up dozens of good media publications in just 2 years.

Goodbye CT. It was good while it lasted."

God I hope this isn't a microcosm of what could happen with Discovery takeover of WC racing.

You'd almost think Owning or running businesses was to make money, how scandalous.

Team Media Rumors -

Spoomer - would be interesting to see an article about bike media consolidation and what corp entity each of the major sites is under. It's getting ugly out there esp with Outside also controlling BRAIN. I've intentionally been trying to give Vital a lot more of my clicks and Outside entities a lot less.

Cannondale sent out an email this morning announcing this. A significant move being riding for them for 8 years.

Dude spent millions on outdated media publications that were only hardly profitable even when they were extremely lean.  He also bought the majority of them at peak valuation and now the industry is undoubtedly headed towards a small recession and possibly a monumental one if the world economy continues to dip.  I’m sure the vast majority of paid subscribers they gained by buying pinkbike/beta dipped as soon as they folded beta.  Cycling tips will be no different.  With how many ways advertisers can reach consumers in the modern age I have no idea how he ever thought he’d get a return on investment.  No matter how many brands you buy you aren’t going to monopolize how people discuss bikes/outdoor recreation on the internet.

Discovery - Owns Play Sports, which includes GCN, GMBN, and all those various channels.

Immediate Media - Bike Radar, MBUK, Cycling Plus.

Future Publishing - CyclingNews, Bike Perfect, Pro Cycling, MBR, Cycling Weekly.

tried listening to the podcast on the other site where they had thurston on, had to switch off after 20 minutes because that guy is such an insufferable and unlikeable piece of shit

too bad about CT, while I’m not really following road racing I liked to read it for the tech nerdery and widening my bike horizon a bit.

Was Bernard Kerr's recent whirlwind trip to Greece to sign a certain expat Brit rider whose main bike sponsor just paused their racing program for 2023? Or is he just really into Souvlaki?

Pretty sure I saw Bernard was in Athens on Insta. If Pivot is getting a new male rider, and Propain just folded their WC DH team, there is a good chance it could be Phil Atwill. I know Phil was not on the Propain factory team, but if they are folding one they might fold Propain Positive too. Phil on the Pivot team would be incredible...

I think the Leatt team is in Athens, not just Pivot.  For what it's worth, Tippie is there too and I have my doubts he's the new Pivot rider...

Phil's also not a Propain Factory rider technically. He's on Propain Positive/Vee

Phil is running his own program with support from Propain and a few others. Mind you it's only Propain Factory Racing who paused for 2023. Propain didn't just stop sponsoring riders altogether and Phil wasn't on the factory team.

Very unlikely that Phil is the new Pivot rider. That being said, if I had a bike brand and a racing team, I'd move heaven and earth to get him on my team. One of the most stylish riders around. Propain has done incredibly well signing him.

Jesse is posting a lot of highlights of the season in his Instagram stories. Kinda like he's reminiscing the season he had with rocky before moving on? Maybe? Just reminiscing?

It’s cold outside and it’s his job to put out content.  While it seems Jesse is definitely on the move I wouldn’t look too much into riders putting together highlight reels in November/December.

Could be and would make sense, as Veronika and Jordan will (might) leave. They have some open places and Mikayla is a local / UK rider.

Looks like Becci Skelton doing the no handler. Already sponsored by Saracen

I still reckon Mikayla Parton will be joining Atherton..

Wasn't there a rumor they were not racing this year? So I would not expect her to join them if she wants to race on a team.

She did post few days ago that she will be spending this winter in Wales and not at home in Fort William
